Work Area
1. Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite
accidents.
2. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
3. Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while operating a power tool.

Distractions can cause you to lose control. Protect others in the work area from debris such as chips and sparks. Provide barriers or shields as needed.
Electrical Safety
4. Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges, and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is
grounded.
5. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
6. Grounded tools must be plugged into an outlet properly installed and grounded
in accordance with all codes and ordinances. Never remove the grounding prong or modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs. Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. If the tools should electrically malfunction or break down, grounding
provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user.
7. Double insulated tools are equipped with a polarized plug (one blade is wider
than the other). This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to install a polarized outlet. Do not change the plug in any way. Double insulation

8. Do not abuse the Power Cord. Never use the Power Cord to carry the tools or

9. When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord marked “W-A” or “W”. These extension cords are rated for outdoor use, and reduce the risk of electric shock.
Personal Safety
10. Stay alert. Watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may
result in serious personal injury.
11. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
12. Avoid accidental starting. Be sure the Power Switch is off before plugging in. Carrying power tools with your finger on the Power Switch, or plugging in power tools with the Power Switch on, invites accidents.

13. Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key that is left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
14. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing and balance enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
15. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, nonskid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions.
Tool Use and Care
16. Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and may
lead to loss of control.
17. Do not force the tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed.
18. Do not use the power tool if the Power Switch does not turn it on or off. Any tool that cannot be controlled with the Power Switch is dangerous and must be replaced.
19. Disconnect the Power Cord Plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
20. Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
21. Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained tools with a sharp cutting edge are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Do not use a damaged tool. Tag damaged tools “Do not use” until repaired.
22. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any
other condition that may affect the tool’s operation. If damaged, have the tool serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
23. Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous when
used on another tool.

24. Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury.

SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES FOR THIS PRODUCT
1. Maintain labels and nameplates on the Band Saw. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Harbor Freight Tools for a replacement.
2. Always wear ANSI-approved safety impact eye goggles and heavy work gloves when using the Band Saw. Using personal safety devices reduce the risk for injury. Safety impact eye goggles and heavy work gloves are available from Harbor Freight Tools.
3. Maintain a safe working environment. Keep the work area well lit. Make sure there is adequate surrounding workspace. Always keep the work area free of obstructions, grease, oil, trash, and other debris. Do not use a power tool in areas near flammable chemicals, dusts, and vapors. Do not use this product in a damp or wet location.
4. Avoid unintentional starting. Make sure you are prepared to begin work before turning on the Band Saw.
5. Do not force the Band Saw. This tool will do the work better and safer at the speed and capacity for which it was designed.
6. Always unplug the Band Saw from its electrical outlet before performing any
inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures.
7. Never leave the Band Saw unattended while running. Turn power off if you have to leave the Band Saw.
8. Before each use, check all nuts, bolts, and screws for tightness. Vibration during operation may cause these to loosen.
9. Keep extension cord off the ground and away from water.
10. Always connect the Line Cord to a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protected electrical outlet.
11. Make sure the Band Saw is located on a flat, level, sturdy surface capable of supporting the weight of the Saw and workpieces. Always “chock” the Wheels to prevent the Band Saw from accidentally moving.
12. Make sure the Table of the Band Saw and surrounding area are clear of obstructions, with the exception of the workpiece to be cut.
13. Before using the Band Saw, check to make sure the Saw Blade is properly
mounted and is not cracked or bent.

14. Industrial applications must follow OSHA guidelines.
15. Never stand on the Band Saw. Serious injury could result if the Band Saw is tipped or if the rotating Saw Blade is accidently contacted.
16. Never attempt to cut more than one workpiece at a time.
17. Never attempt to cut freehand. Make sure the workpiece to be cut is pressed firmly against the Table and secured in the Vise.

18. When cutting a large workpiece, make sure its entire length is properly supported. If necessary, use a roller stand (not included).
19. Do not lean on the Band Saw when the tool is in its upright position.
20. When moving the Band Saw, always have its Head lowered to its horizontal position and secured in place.
21. Allow the Saw Blade to rotate to full speed before lowering the Saw Blade onto the workpiece. When turning off the Band Saw, allow the Saw Blade to spin down and stop on its own. Do not press against the Saw Blade to stop it.
22. To avoid accidental injury, always wear heavy duty work gloves when changing the Saw Blade.
23. The Saw Blade will become hot while cutting. Allow the Saw Blade to completely cool before handling.
24. Do not force the Saw Blade into the workpiece when cutting. Apply moderate pressure, allowing the Saw Blade to cut without being forced.
25. Turn off the Band Saw and allow the Saw Blade to completely stop if the Saw Blade is to be backed out of an uncompleted cut.
26. Never attempt to remove material stuck in the moving parts of the Band Saw.
27. Always unplug the Band Saw from its electrical outlet before performing inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures.
28. Keep this product and all other tools and equipment away from children and animals. Do not allow spectators in the work area.
29. Keep all safety guards in place and in proper working order.
30. This Band Saw is designed for indoor use only.
31. Make sure the workpiece to be cut off has sufficient room to move sideways. Failure to do so may result in offcut binding against the Saw Blade.

this product. Operation of electrical equipment in close proximity to a heart pacemaker could cause interference or failure of the pacemaker.
WARNING! Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling, and
other construction activities, contain chemicals known (to the State of California) to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. Some examples of these chemi­cals are: lead from lead-based paints, crystalline silica from bricks and cement or other masonry products, arsenic and chromium from chemically treated lumber. Your risk from these exposures varies, depending on how often you do this type of work. To reduce your exposure to these chemicals: work in a well ventilated area, and work with approved safety equipment, such as those dust masks that are specially designed to filter out microscopic particles.

GROUNDING
WARNING!
Improperly connecting the grounding wire can result in the risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the power cord plug provided with the tool or product. Never remove the grounding prong from the plug. Do not use the tool if the power cord or plug is damaged. If damaged, have it repaired by a service facility before use. If the plug will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
Grounded Tools with Three Prong Plugs
This Band Saw uses a three-prong plug.
1. Tools marked with “Grounding Required” have a three wire cord and three prong grounding plug. The plug must be connected to a properly grounded outlet. If the tool should electrically malfunction or break down, grounding provides a low resistance path to carry electricity away from the user, reducing the risk of electric shock. (See Figure A.)
2. The grounding prong in the plug is connected through the green wire inside the cord to the grounding system in the tool. The green wire in the cord must be the only wire connected to the tool’s grounding system and must never be attached to an electrically “live” terminal. (See Figure A.)
3. Your tool must be plugged into an appropriate outlet, properly installed and grounded in accordance with all codes and ordinances. The plug and outlet should look like those in the following illustration. (See Figure A.)

5. Tools marked “Double Insulated” do not require grounding. They have a special double insulation system which satisfies OSHA requirements and complies with the applicable standards of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., the Canadian Standard Association, and the National Electrical Code. (See Figure B above.)
6. Double insulated tools may be used in either of the 120 volt outlets shown in the following illustration. (See Figure B above.)
EXTENSION CORDS
1. Grounded tools require a three wire extension cord. Double Insulated tools can use either a two or three wire extension cord.
2. As the distance from the supply outlet increases, you must use a heavier gauge extension cord. Using extension cords with inadequately sized wire causes a serious drop in voltage, resulting in loss of power and possible tool damage. (See Table A.)
3. The smaller the gauge number of the wire, the greater the capacity of the cord. For example, a 14 gauge cord can carry a higher current than a 16 gauge cord. (See Table A.)
4. When using more than one extension cord to make up the total length, make sure each cord contains at least the minimum wire size required. (See Table A.)
5. If you are using one extension cord for more than one tool, add the nameplate amperes and use the sum to determine the required minimum cord size. (See Table A.)
6. If you are using an extension cord outdoors, make sure it is marked with the suffix “W­A” (“W” in Canada) to indicate it is acceptable for outdoor use.
7. Make sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified electrician before using it.
8. Protect your extension cords from sharp objects, excessive heat, and damp or wet areas.

UNPACKING
When unpacking, check to make sure that all the parts are included. Refer to the Assembly Drawings and Parts Lists.
If any parts are missing or broken, please call Harbor Freight Tools at the number on the cover of this manual as soon as possible.
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Open the bag of hardware and lay out the parts by type. Refer to the Stand Parts List and assembly illustration on the next page.
2. Using four Hex Bolts (A3), Washers (A4), and Hex Nuts (A5), attach the Left and Right Leg Stands (A2) to the Rear Leg Stand (A1) in four places. Hand tighten hardware.
3. Using four Hex Bolts (A3), Washers (A4), and Hex Nuts (A5), attach the Front Leg Stand (A1) to the Left and Right Leg Stands (A2) in four places. Securely tighten hardware at all eight assembly points using an adjustable wrench (not supplied).
4. Using two Hex Bolts (A10) and Washers (A11), attach the Wheel Assembly (A9) to the Right Leg Stand (A2). Securely tighten hardware.
5. Test the Leg Stands to make sure there is no movement or looseness in any panel.
6. With the help of another person, lift the Band Saw assembly and place it squarely on the Leg Stand so that the mounting holes are in front and back.
7. Using two Hex Bolts (A6), four Washers (A7), and two Hex Nuts (A8), secure the Band Saw Assembly to the Leg Stand by placing the Hex Bolts (A6) and Washers (A7) through the front and rear mounting holes of the Band Saw, and into the Leg Stand. Securely tighten.

1. Unplug the Band Saw Power Cord (45) from the electrical outlet.
2. Verify that the Saw Blade (49) tension is correct. (Refer to Blade Tension Adjustment on the following page.)
3. Set the cutting angle of the Saw Blade by first loosening the two Angle Set Bolts (44), then carefully pivoting the Band Saw assembly to the desired angle as read on the Scale (65).
The Scale (65) is marked in one degree increments from 0° (cut 90° to stock) to 45° cut to stock.

4. Retighten the Angle Set Bolts (44).
5. Pull the Handle (56) down all the way and verify that the Body Frame (3) does not come in contact with the Angle Set Bolts (44). If it does, adjust the bolt handles out of the way.
6. Place the stock to be cut in the Vise and secure by loosening the Vise Lock and pushing the Vise Jaw (15) tightly against the stock. Press down on the Vise Lock handle to lock the Vise in place.
Long stock must be supported by a stand. If the stock is tubular, insert the end of the stock into the Stock Stop Pin (87). It may be necessary to adjust the position of the Rod Stock Stop (85).
7. Pull the Handle (56) down all the way and verify that the Saw Blade is aligned with the cutting mark on the stock. Adjust the stock position as necessary.
8. Loosen the Blade Guide Arm Adjustment Bolt (44) and adjust the Blade Guide Arm (5) so it comes as close as possible to the stock without touching it. Retighten the Guide Arm Adjustment Bolt (44).
Power
9. Push the Power Switch (66) red button to the Off (0) position.

10. Plug the Power Cord (45) into the electrical outlet.
11. Push the Power Switch (66) green button to the On (I) position, and lower the Power Switch Cover (18).
12. Pull the Handle (56) down until the Saw Blade (49) is just above the stock to be cut, and squeeze the Micro Switch Trigger (60).
13. When the Saw Blade reaches full speed, begin cutting the stock. Do not force the Saw Blade into the stock. Use gentle pressure
and allow the Saw Blade to cut at its normal speed.

14. When the cut is complete, release the Micro Switch Trigger (60) and allow the Saw Blade to come to a complete stop.
15. Press down on the Power Switch red cover button (A). This presses in on the Off switch inside to shut the unit off and disable the Micro Switch Trigger (60). Unplug the Power Cord (45) from the electrical outlet.
Saw Blade Tension Adjustment
1. Unplug the Band Saw Power Cord (45) from the electrical outlet.
2. Turn the Tension Adjustment Knob (47) clockwise to increase tension on the Saw Blade (49). Turn the Blade Tension Knob counterclockwise to decrease tension on the Saw Blade.
Correct tension is reached when the Saw Blade is just tight enough so that no slippage occurs between the Saw Blade and both the Return Flywheel (20) and the Motor Flywheel (6). It may be necessary to remove the Body Cover (4) to check this.
NOTE: If the Band Saw will not be used over long periods of time, release the tension on the Saw Blade (49).

INSPECTION, MAINTENANCE, AND CLEANING
WARNING! Make sure the Power Switch of the Band Saw is in its “OFF” position and that the tool is unplugged from its electrical outlet before performing any inspection, maintenance, or cleaning procedures.
1. Before each use, inspect the general condition of the Band Saw. Check for loose
screws, misalignment or binding of moving parts, cracked or broken parts, damaged electrical wiring, and any other condition that may affect its safe operation. If abnormal noise or vibration occurs, have the problem corrected before further use.
Caution: Do not use damaged equipment.
2. Check that the Saw Blade does not contact the Base (1) when brought down. Adjust
the Depth Adjustment Bolt (93) if necessary.
3. Periodically recheck all nuts, bolts, and screws for tightness.
4. Cover and store in a clean and dry location.
5. If the Band Saw will not be used over long periods of time, release the tension on the
Saw Blade (49).
6. Clean the Band Saw after each use. Sweep clean of all cutting debris.
7. Some repair and maintenance procedures, not described in this manual, may require
the use of a qualified service technician.
Replacing the Saw Blade
Caution: The Saw Blade (49) is very sharp and difficult to handle. Always wear gloves.
1. Remove the Body Cover (4) by unscrewing six screws holding it in place.
2. Turn the Blade Tension Knob (47) counterclockwise to decrease tension on the Saw
Blade enough to loosen and remove it from the Return Flywheel (20) and the Motor Flywheel (6).
Note: Observe the direction of the teeth on the Saw Blade, and the direction arrow indicator on the Band Saw.
3. Wearing gloves, remove the old Saw Blade. Coil and secure.
4. Place the new Saw Blade over the Return Flywheel (20) and the Motor Flywheel (6).
See the Specifications on page 2 for the correct Saw Blade specifications. Verify that the direction of the teeth are correct as noted on the Band Saw indicator arrow.
5. Turn the Blade Tension Knob (47) clockwise to increase tension on the Saw Blade
enough so it does not slide while on the Return Flywheel (20) and the Motor Flywheel (6).
6. Replace the Body Cover (4) by replacing the six screws that hold it in place.

Bearing Alignment
1. Loosen both Adjustment Screws (pictured to the
right) on the Fixed Guide Plate (41).
2. Adjust the Plate so that the Blade is straight and
the Bearing (34) sits about 0.5–1 mm above the blade. Retighten both Screws.
3. Loosen both Acorn Nuts (32) on the Fixed Guide
Plate (41).
4. Turn the two Cam Screws (28, 29) until the
bearings both just touch the blade. Do not overtighten. While holding the Cam Screws (28,
29) with a wrench, retighten the Acorn Nuts (32).
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 for the Blade Guide Arm (5).
