equipment until xed properly.
Checking Engine Oil Level
the upper limit (H) mark on the dip-
stick (bottom edge of the oil ll hole).
Low oil level can trigger the low oil sensor to shutdown the engine and prevent restart (See Figure 3 for correct oil level).
If the oil level is low, add the 4. appropriate type of oil until the oil
level is at the bottom lip of the oil ll
hole.
Oil type:
32° F or above = SAE 10W-30 Below 32° F = SAE 5W-30.
Replace the Oil Filler Cap.5.
CAUTION! Do not run the engine with too
little or too much oil. The engine will be permanently damaged.
CAUTION! Your Warranty is VOID if the
engine’s crankcase is not properly
lled with oil before each use. Before
each use, check the oil level. Do not run the engine with low or no engine oil. Running the engine with no or low engine oil WILL permanently damage the engine.
Turn off engine and allow it to cool.1.

Start Procedure
Before starting the engine:
Follow the Set Up a. Instructions to prepare the equipment.
Inspect the equipment and b. engine. Make sure the pump has the Pump Breather Plug installed.
Replace the non-vented c. brass oil plug with the aluminum Pump Breather Plug.
Fill the engine with the d. proper amount and type of both fuel and oil.
Read the Equipment e. Operation section that follows.
Point Nozzle in safe direction and 1. squeeze trigger to release all pressure from the pump.
Turn the fuel valve lever to its 2.
“OPEN” position.
Turn the ignition switch to its ON or 3. RUN position.
Then, turn the engine choke lever 4.
to its “CHOKE” position for cold
start. Set the choke lever in the “1/2
CHOKE” position when starting a
warm engine.
After the engine starts and warms 7. up, slowly move the choke lever to its
“RUN” position.
IMPORTANT: Allow the engine to 8.
run at no load (low pressure) for ve
minutes after each start-up so that the engine can stabilize.
Move the throttle up to operating 9. speed. Operating speed is maximum speed (fast or rabbit), except during operational break-in period.
Break-in Period
Breaking-in the engine will help to 1. ensure proper equipment and engine operation.
The operational break-in period will 2. last about 3 hours of use. During this period:
Do not apply a heavy load to the equipment.
Do not operate the engine at its maximum speed.
The maintenance break-in period will 3. last about 20 hours of use. After this period:
Change the engine oil.
Under normal operating conditions subsequent maintenance follows the schedule in the MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING section.
Close the throttle.5.
Grasp the starter handle, and pull 6. slowly until resistance is felt. While holding the handle, allow the starter rope to rewind slowly. Then, pull the starter handle with a rapid, full arm stroke. Once again while holding the handle, allow the rope to rewind slowly. Repeat as necessary, until the engine starts.

Equipment Operation
WARNING
CAUTION
Do not direct spray
from the pressure washer at a person or an animal. The water stream could cause serious injury.
Use the pressure
washer only on surfaces able to withstand the force of the spray.
Replace the non-vented brass oil 1. plug with the aluminum Pump Breath-
er Plug before rst use. The Pump
Breather Plug must be used whenever the pressure washer is used. The brass oil plug (without the breather hole) should be used for transporting only.
Choose the Nozzle that best meets 2. the needs of the job. Only use the Nozzles on surfaces capable of withstanding the force of the spray. Only
use the Black Nozzle when using pressure washer detergent. The power of the other Nozzles will propel mist back at the operator and can imbed detergent into the surface.
Pull back the quick connect collar and 3. push the Nozzle onto the end of the Wand. Make sure the quick connect collar locks the Nozzle in place.
Turn the water supply on and hold 4. down the Trigger to start the stream.
Be aware that when it is rst started,
the gun will kick.
It is best to start at a low pressure 5. setting, and adjust the pressure upwards. Test spray the edge
of the surface to be cleaned rst
to make sure that the stream is not too strong for the surface. If the stream damages the surface turn the Pressure Regulator Knob counterclockwise to reduce the pressure. Moving further away from the surface being cleaned will also reduce the pressure being applied to the surface. If the stream is still too strong. Turn the engine off, turn the water supply off, discharge the excess pressure from the gun by squeezing the Trigger, and change to a lower pressure Nozzle.
To increase the pressure, turn the 6. Pressure Regulator Knob clockwise.
Page 15For technical questions, please call 1-800-444-3353.SKU 67596
Page 16
Hold the Wand at about a 45° 7. angle when cleaning; spraying the surface directly could embed dirt into the surface (especially with the high pressure Nozzles). Spray at a
distance of about three to ve feet.
Clean vertical and sloped surfaces from the top down.
When cleaning horizontal surfaces, occasionally use the stream to clear the area of excess water.
CAUTION Do not allow the Pressure
Washer to idle, without the Trigger held down, for more than two minutes. The water will heat up and damage the Pressure Washer. RISK OF BURNS! The pump will also expel very hot water if allowed to idle too long.
Hold the Trigger down and move 8. the Wand back and forth slowly and steadily to pressure wash the surface. Take special care when spraying surfaces made of two different materials (brick and mortar, for example), to not damage the softer of the two materials during pressure washing.
If the surface is streaked or uneven 9. at the end of a job, switch to a Nozzle that has a wider spray pattern to blend the affected area.
When nished; release the Trigger 10. on the spray handle, turn the engine
power switch “OFF”, turn the water
supply off and then shut off gas supply to the engine.
Squeeze the Trigger to release 11. excess pressure.
If Pressure Washer detergent has 12. been used for the job, run clean water through the system to eliminate detergent residue.
To prevent accidents, turn off the 13. engine and after the engine has cooled, disconnect its spark plug wire after use. Drain all water out of the unit. Clean external parts with clean cloth, then store the equipment out of children’s reach according to the Storage instructions in this manual.

Air Filter Element Maintenance
Spark Plug Maintenance
The air cleaner cover is held in place 1. by a wing nut or clamps. Remove it.
Remove the air lter element.2.
Cleaning:3.
For “paper” lter elements: a. To prevent injury from dust and debris, wear ANSI-approved safety goggles, NIOSH-approved dust mask/respirator, and heavy-duty work gloves. In a well-ventilated area away from bystanders, use pressurized air to blow dust out of
the air lter. If this does not get the lter
reasonably clean, replace it.
For foam lter elements: b. Wash the element in warm water and mild detergent several times. Rinse. Squeeze out excess water and allow it to dry completely. Soak
the lter in lightweight oil briey, then
squeeze out the excess oil.
Install the new lter or the cleaned 4. lter. Secure the Air Cleaner Cover
before use.
Disconnect spark plug wire from 1. end of plug. Clean out debris from around spark plug.
Using a spark plug wrench, remove 2. the spark plug.
Inspect the spark plug: 3. If the electrode is oily, clean it using a clean, dry rag. If the electrode has deposits on it, polish it using emery paper. If the white insulator is cracked or chipped, the spark plug needs to be replaced.
When installing a new spark 4. plug, adjust the plug’s gap to the
specication on the Technical specication chart. Do not pry
against the electrode, the spark plug can be damaged.
Install the new spark plug or the 5. cleaned spark plug into the engine. Gasket-style: Finger-tighten until the gasket contacts the cylinder head, then about 1/2-2/3 turn more. Non-gasket-style: Finger-tighten until the plug contacts the head, then about 1/16 turn more.
Apply dielectric spark plug boot 6. protector (not included) to the end of the spark plug and reattach the wire securely.

Fuel Filter Replacement (if equipped)
WARNING! RISK OF FIRE
OR EXPLOSION. Replace the
fuel lter in a well-ventilated
area away from ignition sources. Do not smoke.
Wait for engine to cool completely 1. before proceeding.
Wear protective gear including, ANSI-2. approved safety goggles, NIOSHapproved dust mask/respirator, and nitrile gloves.
Close fuel valve leading from gas 3. tank completely.
Take note of the fuel lter’s 4. orientation.
Cleaning, Maintenance, and
Lubrication Schedule
Note: This maintenance schedule
is intended solely as a general guide. If performance decreases or if equipment operates unusually, check systems immediately. The maintenance needs of each piece of equipment will differ depending on factors such as duty cycle, temperature, air quality, fuel quality, and other factors.
Note: These procedures are in addition to
the regular checks and maintenance explained as part of the regular operation of the engine and equipment.
Place a suitable container under the 5.
fuel lter.
Disconnect the fuel lines leading to 6.
and from the fuel lter and allow fuel
to drain onto the container.
Install new fuel lter in the same 7. orientation. Make sure to properly secure both fuel lines.
Clean up and properly dispose of all 8. fuel.
Wait for at least one hour before use 9. to allow all residual fuel vapors to dissipate. To prevent FIRE, do not
start the engine while the smell of fuel hangs in the air. Remember to
open the fuel valve before restarting the engine. It may take a little longer than usual to start the engine
because the fuel needs to rell the fuel line and new lter.
After 20 Operation Hour Break-in Period:
Change engine oil.a.
After Every 25 Operation Hours:
Clean/replace air lter element.a.
Inspect/clean spark plug.b.
Blow out water lters.c.
After Every 50 Operation Hours:
Change engine oil.a.
Replace fuel lter (if equipped).b.
After Every 100 Operation Hours:
Replace spark plug.a.
Replace air lter element.b.
Change pump oil.c.
Note: All maintenance procedures
scheduled for 25, 50, and 100 operation hours should be performed at least yearly.

Page 20
After Every 300 Operation Hours:
Clean fuel tank and carburetor.a.
Apply a thin coat of rust preventive oil 3. to all metal parts.
Clean carbon build-up from b. combustion chamber.
Storage
Wait for engine to cool, then clean 1. engine with clean cloth.
When the equipment is to remain idle 2. for longer than 20 days, prepare the engine for storage as follows:
Change engine oil and empty fuel a. tank.
Either leave fuel tank empty or b.
rell fuel tank with fresh unleaded
gasoline mixed with a fuel stabilizer intended for long term engine
storage (not included). After lling,
run engine for about 5-10 minutes to circulate the treated gasoline through the carburetor. Wait for engine to cool before proceeding.
Cover and store in a dry, well-4. ventilated area out of reach of children.
Before starting the engine after 5. storage, keep in mind that untreated gasoline will deteriorate quickly. Drain the fuel tank and change to fresh fuel if untreated gasoline has been sitting for a month, if treated gasoline has been sitting beyond the fuel stabilizer’s recommended time period, or if the engine does not start properly.
Clean out area around spark plug. c. Remove spark plug and pour one tablespoon of engine oil into cylinder through spark plug hole.
Replace spark plug, but leave spark d. plug wire disconnected.
Pull recoil starter to distribute oil e. in cylinder. Stop after one or two revolutions when you feel the piston start the compression stroke (when you start to feel resistance).
Disconnect battery (if equipped).f.

Emission Control System
Warranty
California and United States Emission Control
Defects Warranty Statement
The California Air Resources Board (herein CARB), the United States Environmental Protection Agency (herein EPA), and Harbor Freight Tools (herein HFT) are pleased to explain the emission control system warranty on your 1995 and later Small Off-Road Engine (herein engine). In California, the engine must be designed, built and equipped to meet the State’s stringent anti-smog standards. Elsewhere within the United States, new off-road, spark-ignition engines certified for model year 1997 and later, must meet similar standards set forth by the EPA. HFT must warrant the emission control system on your engine for the periods of time described below, provided there has been no abuse, neglect or improper maintenance of your engine.
Your emission control system may include parts such as the carburetor or fuel-injection system, and the ignition system. Also included may be hoses, belts, connectors and other emissionrelated assemblies.
Where a warrantable condition exists, HFT will repair your engine at no cost to you including diagnosis, parts and labor.
Manufacturer’s Warranty Coverage
The 1995 and later engines are warranted for two (2) years. If any emission-related part on your engine is defective, the part will be repaired or replaced by HFT.
To take advantage of this warranty, the product or part must be returned to us with transportation charges prepaid. Proof of purchase date and an explanation of the complaint must accompany the merchandise.
If our inspection veries the defect, we will
either repair or replace the product at our election or we may elect to refund the purchase price if we cannot readily and

Remove Pump Oil Cap, check Pump’s oil level and add SAE 30W oil if low. 1. Replace with Pump Breather Plug. (Figure 1)
Running without the pump breather plug can cause pump damage. (See oil ll instructions in manual or on product label.)
Check Dipstick for Engine oil level (Figure 2 A). Fill Engine with proper amount of oil if dipstick indicates 2. low oil (Figure 2 B). Use SAE 10W-30 oil for air temperature of 32° F or above, SAE 5W-30 below 32° F. Fill Fuel Tank with 89 or higher octane unleaded gas mixed with fuel stabilizer (not included).
Connect and turn on water supply. Turn the pressure regulator counterclockwise to lower the output pressure. 3. Point Spray Nozzle in safe direction and squeeze trigger to release all pressure from the pump.
Turn the red ignition switch to ON position (Figure 4).4.
Turn the Fuel Valve Lever (Gas pump symbol) to its OPEN position (Figure 5).5.
Set Throttle to slow (turtle symbol) and turn the engine choke lever to its CHOKE position 6. for cold start. Set the choke lever in the 1/2 CHOKE position when starting a warm engine (Figure 5).
Grasp the starter handle, and pull slowly until resistance is felt (Figure 6). While holding the handle, allow the starter rope to rewind 7. slowly. Then, pull the starter handle with a rapid, full arm stroke. Once again while holding the handle, allow the rope to rewind slowly. Repeat as needed until the engine starts.
After the Engine starts and warms up, slowly move the Choke Lever to its RUN position (Figure 5).8.
IMPORTANT: Allow the Engine to run at no load, low pressure for ve minutes after each start-up so Engine can stabilize.
Move the throttle up to operating speed (Fast) 9. EXCEPT DURING OPERATIONAL BREAK-IN PERIOD (Figure 5). Turn the pressure regulator clockwise to raise the output pressure as needed.
