Optical System
As shown in the illustration below, the Spotting Scope design includes one Object Lens (#1), two Reflective Mirrors (#2 and #3), one Collecting Lens (#4), two Image Reversing Lens (#5), and two Ocular Lenses (#6).
The Object Lens (#1) forms an image that is focused on the Ocular Lenses (#6) at the Eyepiece.
The Reflective Mirrors (#2 and #3) reverse the optical axis of the scope, resulting in a shorter, more compact Spotting Scope.
The Collecting Lens (#4) bends the light image as it passes from the Object lens along the lower Optical Axis (#3 - #6). The image is then reversed right-side-up by the two Image Reversing Lenses (#5) before it passes to the Ocular Lens (#6) at the Eyepiece where the magnified image is seen.
Scope Set-Up
1. After removing the Spotting Scope from the carrying case, select the desired magnification (20x or 30x) by turning the magnification Indicator/Selection Ring to the desired 20x or 30x position. Make sure that the Indicator/Selection Ring is fully engaged to either the 20x or 30x setting or the viewed image may not focus-in properly.
2. While looking through the Eyepiece, bring the image being viewed into focus by turning the Fine Focus Control.
3. The use of a tripod (not included) or other viewing supports is recommended. The Spotting Scope includes two standard size mounting holes (1/4” and 3/8”) which will accomodate the mounting of a tripod.
4. Take particular care not to scratch the lens surface, and always keep the lense clean by rubbing a soft cloth over the lens surface.
Storage
Like any quality optical instrument, the Spotting Scope should be stored in a dry, clean place at all times. Always place the scope back in the carrying case when not in use. Strorage temperature should be within +5 degrees Centigrade to +40 degrees Centigrade with humidity not to exceed 80%.
