INTRODUCTION
The PXVC Intelligent, single loop, PID controller is a stand-
alone cabinet mounted electronic universal controller.
The Han sen PXVC c ontroller ca n be co nfigured for
several different applications. The controller, with factory defaults , will give reasonab ly good cont rol. If contr ol difficult ies occur during star t up, it is re comm ended
first to thor oughly chec k sys tem a nd components for
at tem pti ng to tune th e PXVC controller.
Fi el d al te r a t i o n o f the controlle r conf i g u r a ti o n is
not recomme nded. Control ler tu nin g of the P- I-D is
perfo rme d in the “parameter s” section and are the only
parameter s the user may n eed to o ptimiz e.
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONS
PX VC-PT (Pr e ssure Tem pera t ure)

The PXVC-PT controller is used in applications where the
system te mper atures are n ot les s than -20°F (-28. 9°C).
It is fac tor y prog r ammed to provi de pre cise c ont rol of
the H ansen PXV puls e wi dth ex pansion va lve fo r direc t expansion evaporators. The 2 inputs, pressure transducer
and temperature probe, are used to determine the amount of Superheat or Subcooling in a controlled refrigeration
system. The PXVC-PT pulses the PXV valve open and closed at a rate equal to the refrigerant flow necessar y to
maintain a set-for superheated gas leaving the evaporator.

PX VC-DX C ontro l o f E vapo rato r
The Hansen PXVC-DX Controller is used with system
temperatures less than -2 0°F (-28.9°C). It is factory
programmed to provide precise control of the Hansen
PXV pulse width expansion valve for direct expansion evaporators. A 4-20 mA i nput signal fr om the Hansen
HPT super heat sensor or computer output of super heat
to the PXVC-DX cont roller which pulse s the Hansen
PXV val ve. T he va lve opens a nd clo ses at a rate equ al
to the r efr iger ant flow neces s ary to m aint ain a s et-for
super heated gas le aving the eva porator. For wiring diagram, refer to Hansen drawings 7000-79, -80, -81, -87.
PX VC-T Tem perat ure Cont r ol
The Hansen PXVC-T Controller is factor y programmed to
provide p reci se co ntrol of temp erat ure in applications suc h a s L iq ui d I nj ec tio n o r s c rew c o m pr ess o r s.
A temp erature sensor, include d, provides an i nput to
the Hansen PXVC-T controller which puls es the Hansen PXV val ve. T he va lve opens a nd clo ses at a rate equ al to the refrigera nt f low nec essa r y to maintain a set for
discharge gas temperat ure. For wiring diag ram, refer
to Hans en drawing 700 0 - 8 4, -99.

The Han sen PXVC - L Con troller is factor y p rogr amme d
to provide pr ecise control of liquid level in floode d
ev a p o r ator s , s m a l l liquid recirculators , and other
refrigera nt leve l vessel s. A 4 -20 mA in put s ignal from the Ha nsen VLT level probe, Ha nsen Vari-L evel with
4-20 mA , or ot her liqu id level dev ice to the Hansen
PXVC - L controller whi ch pulse s the Han sen PXV valve.
The valve ope ns and cl ose s at a rate equal to the
refrigera nt flow nece ssar y to mai ntai n a s et-for liq uid level in the vessel. For wiring diagr am, refer to Ha nsen
drawing 70 00-85.
PX VC-P Pre s sure Con t rol
The Ha nsen PX VC- P Controller is factory pr ogra mmed
to provi de prec ise control of pres sure in a pplication s such as hot gas byp ass to suct ion of a co mpre ssor.
A pres sure sensor, avail able from Ha nse n, p rov ide s an
input to the Hansen PXVC -P cont roller which pulses the Hans en PXV va lve. The valve op ens and close s at a rate equal to the refrigera nt flow nec essar y to mai nta in a set for p ress ure. For wir ing diagram, ref er to Hansen
drawing 70 01-00.
PX VC-CI Con t rol Inter face
The Han sen PXVC - CI Controll er is fa ctory program med
as a signal conver ter for 4 -20 mA input, d irec t acting , PWM output were 20 mA = 100% ON, 12mA = 50% PWM and 4mA = 0% OFF. Allows an existing system wit h
4-20 mA output to be fitted with PWM valve co ntr ol.

POWER FAILURE
Upon power-interruption, all parameters and set-points are memorized in non-volatile memory, and therefore do not have to be re-entered.
ERROR MESSAGES
Err1: Temperature se nsor f aul t y or mis sing.
Er r 3: A fu nction refers to a disa bled input. Disa ble
the fun ction or enable the input.
Er r4: Failure of an interna l compone nt req uire d for
opera tion. Pro duc t must be r eplaced.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
In an extremely impai red EMC environm ent use only shielded ca ble s for in put/ou tput c onnecti ons.
No PWM contro l for VD C coils.
OPTIONAL REMOTE INTERLOCK
The remote interlo ck is des igne d to disab le flow thru
the PXV5, PXV15 or PXVW60 va lve whe n th e in ter lock is connected to an externa l dr y conta ct, nor mally open devi ce, su ch as a th ermostat or sh ut-down switch . Pre­programmed on input pins (15, 16). Disconnecting power to the contr oll er for the pur pose of disabling flow is no t re com mended.
