PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION
Remove the instrument from the packing material and examine it carefully to make sure that no damage has occurred during shipment. If noticeable damage is evident, notify your Dealer.
Each thermometer comes supplied with a 9V battery and instruction manual.
Note: Save all packing material until you are sure that the instrument functions correctly. All defective items must be returned in the original packing together with the supplied accessories.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
HI 945005 and HI 945007 are
microprocessor-based thermometers designed for food industry.
Temperature measurements are performed by using interchangeable K-type thermocouple probes.
3
Standard features include:
• Interchangeable probes
(Hanna manufactures several K-type thermocouple probes for different applications; see Acccessories section)
• Clear Liquid Crystal Display
• Possibility of switching between the Centigrade and the Fahrenheit scale
• HOLD function that freezes the reading on the display (for HI 945007 only)
• Low battery detection.
All these functions are easily accessible through the keypad.
Self-explanatory symbols are used to remind the user of the operating mode or condition.
HI 945005 and HI945007 are accurately pre-calibrated at the factory.
It is generally recommended to have the thermometers recalibrated at least once a year.
For an accurate annual recalibration, contact your nearest Hanna Service Center.

Recommendations for Users
Before using these products, make sure that they are entirely suitable for the environment in which they are used.
Operation of these instruments in residential area could cause unacceptable interferences to radio and TV equipments, requiring the operator to take all necessary steps to correct interferences.
Any variation introduced by the user to the supplied equipment may degrade the instruments' EMC performance.
To avoid electrical shock, do not use these instruments when voltages at the measurement surface exceed 24VAC or 60 VDC.
To avoid damages or burns, do not perform any measurement in microwave ovens.

OPERATIONAL GUIDE
INITIAL PREPARATION
Remove the battery cover on the rear of your thermometer, unwrap the battery and connect it to the clip. Insert the battery in its compartment and replace the cover. (see "Battery Replacement" at pag.9)
To switch the meter on, press the ON/OFF key.
Your thermometer will carry out a self diagnostic test. The LCD shows all the segments at once.
After the test, the thermometer will switch to the measurement mode.
If a temperature probe is plugged in, the unit will display the temperature. If the probe is not plugged in, the display will show "Er".
To switch the meter off, press the ON/OFF key twice.
7
MEASURING SCALE (°C/°F)
When the meter is turned on, it automatically defaults to the °C scale. Measurements can be performed on either the Centigrade or the Fahrenheit scale.
To change the scale, press the °C/°F key once.
MEASUREMENT RESOLUTION
When switched on, the meters default to 1 degree resolution.
Press the ON/OFF key again to change the resolution to
0.1°C (or 0.2°F).
HOLD MODE (for HI 945007 only)
The reading hold function is activated by the HOLD key.
The temperature is frozen on the display until the HOLD button is pressed a second time.
The blinking symbol "M" appears on the display when HOLD is activated.
Press HOLD again to return to the normal operational mode.
8
LOW BATTERY DETECTION
When the battery is low the user is prompted by the appearance of the word "Eb" to substitute the battery.
AUTO-SHUT OFF
To save battery life, the meter will switch off after 45 minutes.
The switch located in the battery compartment enables this feature. Remove the battery cover and slide the switch to the right. The thermometer's auto-off feature will be disabled. If the switch is to the left, the meter will shut off automatically.
9
BATTERY REPLACEMENT
When the battery is low the user is warned by the word "Eb" on the instrument's display.
Replace immediately the battery.
Battery replacement must only take place in a non hazardous area using a 9V battery.
Remove the battery compartment cover on the rear of the meter and replace the 9V battery with a new one. Make sure the battery contact is tight before replacing the cover.
The meter will turn on automatically when a new battery is connected. You can turn it off by pressing the ON/OFF key.
