Preface

This user documentation describes the use and daily maintenance of the electrically driven wheelchairs, models Midway, Antibes, and Atlantic. Maintenance and repairs should be carried out by your dealer. A service manual is available for the wheelchairs (contact your dealer for further information). Batteries and a battery charger are supplied by your dealer. Handicare strongly recommends to use dry batteries.

This documentation forms a part of the wheelchair! This documentation should, therefore, be carefully kept. It contains information that will be useful at a later stage or, for

example, if maintenance or repair work must be carried out. If the wheelchair is transferred, the documentation must be included.

The text included in this documentation concerns the models Midway, Antibes, and Atlantic. Any differences between the models are clearly indicated in the text. If no distinction was made between the three models, this means that the text applies to all three models.

Those parts of the text that are important for the health and safety of people are printed in bold, except for the chapter that concerns safety itself. The following warning texts may be used:

Warranty

Unless agreed upon differently in writing, the warranty stipulations below apply.

• The manufacturer provides your dealer with a twelve-month warranty after delivery.

• Your dealer should be notified of any faults be fore expiry of the w arran ty period .

• The warranty applies to faults that:

• occur during normal use of the wheelchair.

• develop as a result of material faults.

• develop as a result of manufacturing faults.

• The warranty does not cover damage caused by:

• normal wear and tear.

• injudicious or improper use.

• use of any other consumer items than those prescribed.

• In case of any faults occurring, the dealer will:

• replace the parts.

• repair the faults.

• if repair is not reasonably possible, opt for an alternative solution.

• The user shall give the manufacturer the opportun ity to repair any faul ts.

• If any parts have been installed by third parties, the warranty conditions o f the supplier concerned apply.

• The manufacturer reserves the right to modi fy its wheelcha irs withou t prior w arning .

Liability

The manufacturer is not liable for any unsafe situations, accidents, or damages, which are the result of disregarding the warnings or instructions as indicated on the wheelchair or in this documentation, such as:

• injudicious or improper use or maintenance;

• use for any other purpose or in any other circumstances than those described in this documentation;

• use of any other parts than those prescribed.

• repairs carried out without permission by the dealer;

• modifications to the wheelchair. These in clude:

• modifications to the controls;

• weldings, mechanical changes, etc.;

• extensions to the wheelchair or to the controls.

• modifications which will have a negative influence on the stability of the wheelchair, like for example the build up of

respiration machinery, seating unit construction from outside organisations or measured seating units.

Furthermore, the manufacturer is not liable for any consequential damage as a result of malfunctions or faults to the wheelchair (for example: damage to products, operating interruptions, delays, etc.).

The product is in conformity with the provisions of the Medical Devices Directive and thus has CE marking.

Introduction

1 Introduction

1.1 Purpose and function of the wheelchair

Electrically driven wheelchairs are intended as a mobility aid for people who cannot walk, or can walk only with great difficulty. The wheelchairs have front-wheel drive. The maximum slope that can be taken downhill is: for the Midway 8º (13,7%), for the

Antibes 9º (15,4%) and for the Atlantic 7º (12%). The maximum range for the models Midway and Antibes is *40 km, if the circumstances are ideal. For the Atlantic, this range is *25 km. In reality, it may be lower, depending on the weather, the age of the batteries, the body weight, and the number of hills and slopes to be climbed. The maximum speed for the Midway is 10 km/hr, for the Antibes 7 km/hr, and for the Atlantic 9 km/hr.

Electrical wheelchair intended for outdoor/indoor use and fitted with joystick control. The back-rest angle can be set/adjusted. The arm rests and leg rests are adjustable. The arm rests and leg rests can be removed by the assistant for a transfer. Both a version that can be made smaller and a version that cannot, are available.

• Electrically driven, suitable fo r ou tdoor use (EBI):

Electrical wheelchair intended for long-distance outdoor use and fitted with joystick control. The back-rest angle can be set/adjusted. The arm rests and leg rests are adjustable. The arm rests and leg rests can be removed by the assistant for a transfer. Both a version that can be made smaller and a version that cannot, are available.

• Electrically driven, suitable fo r i ndoor use (EBI):

Electrical wheelchair intended for indoor use and fitted with joystick control. The back rest can be set/adjusted. The arm rests and leg rests are adjustable. The arm rests and leg rests can be removed by the assistant for a transfer. Both a version that can be made smaller and a version that cannot, are available.

Class division according to EN 12184 (1999):

• Class A:

Compact, manoeuvrable wheelchairs, which are not specifically intended to take obstacles that occur outdoors.

• Class B:

Wheelchairs that are sufficiently compact and manoeuvrable for indoor use and are able to take obstacl es that occur outdoors.

• Class C:

These wheelchairs are often larger in size. They are not specifically suitable for indoor use, but are intended to cover greater distances and are suitable for outdoor use.

1.2 Versions and accessories

Standard wheelchair and accessories

The standard version comprises:

• coated metal frame

• seat, back rest, arm rests, leg rests

• (driven) front wheels, back wheels

• drive and driving electronics

• two batteries (supplied by your de aler)

• controller with joystick

• acrylic plastic side panels

The following, separately supplied parts or tools are a part of each wheelchair. Please check if everything is present.

The following tools are needed to be able to set and adjust your wheelchair:

• Allen key: 4, 5, 6 and 8 mm

• spanner, 13 and 19 mm

• Phillips screwdriver

Safety

2 Safety

2.1 Introduction

This wheelchair was designed and built in such a way as to provide ease of use and maintenance. This applies to the purpose, the circumstances, and the instructions as described in this documentation. Therefore, it is essential that everyone who is going to use this wheelchair should read this documentation and follows the instructions in it.

The simple maintenance routines described in the user manual may easily be carried out by the user. Any maintenance work not included in the user manual, should only be carried out by your dealer.

2.2 Safety regulations

• Only people who have read and who u nderstand the operating instructions, are a llowed to operate the wheelchair.

• The wheelchair is not a toy: do not allow child ren to play w ith it.

• Never switch off the motor while driving.

• Do not drive up or down slopes steeper than 7 º, see Slope s

• Never drive up or down a sl ope diagonally.

• Never unlock the motor on a slope.

• Never drive up or down high kerbs. To the Midway applies: no higher than 8 cm. To the Antibes and the Atlantic applies: no higher

than 5 cm.

• Always take a kerb at right angles – never with one fron t wheel on the ke rb stone and one on the stree t.

• Slow down when moving around corners.

• Make sure the lighting is in orde r.

• Always switch on the lighting when d usk is falling and in the dark.

• When driving on public roads, always observe the regulations of the Road Traffic Act.

• Ensure a correct tyre pressure (see "Further Specifications" op pagina 30, or refer to the sticker on your wheelchair)

• It is prescribed not to use wet batteries. When using wet batteries, acid and fumes may be given off.

• Do not remove or disable safety provisions.

• Ensure that proper maintenance is carried out in order to preserve safety.

• Do not use the wheelch air if any of safety provisions are damaged or otherwise do not function properly . Make sure the wheelchair

is repaired.

• Take obstacles from a neutral seating po si tion, i.e. in the case of electrically adjustable wheelchairs, with the sea t h eight in its

lowermost position and the leg rests and back rest as vertical as possible.

• On footpaths, keep at a safe distance fro m pedestria ns and bear in mind tha t children can ma ke unexpected mo vemen ts.

• In busy pedestrian areas, it is better to switch over to a lower speed.

• Prevent overloading of your wheelchair by avoiding extreme situations, such as driving up a long, steep slope at maximum speed.

• If the weather is cold, the capaci ty of your wheelchair battery will be lower. Keep this in mind w hen planning your journey. If it

freezes, keep an eye on your batte ry indicator!

• The wheelchair was designed for outdoor driving. It is, therefore, resistant against rain and dust. However, if the circumstances are

extreme, moisture or d irt may affect the wheelchai r. Avoi d, therefore, long-term driving through ra in , and th rou gh deep pudd les , mud, high grass, snow, etc.

• Driving through loose sand will use up a lot of energy: ke ep an eye on the battery indica to r and watch out for overloading.

• Adjust your speed when driving indoors.

• Switch off your wheelchair if stan ding still for any length of ti me: th is will preven t your clo thes, or tho se of bystande rs, getting

trapped and unintentionally causing the w heelchai r to start moving .

• When travelling by taxi, always use the taxi-moun ting set and the taxi cab’s sea t belt.

• The wheelchair’s driving behaviour may be affected by ele ctromag neti c fields, such as tho se cau sed by mobile telephon es and

other transmitters. Therefore, switch off your wheelchair if you are using such equipment.

• On the other hand, your wheelchair may also disturb other electromagnetic fi eld s , such as shop alarms.

2.3 Prohibited use

Please take note of the following applications, for which the wheelchair is not suitable:

• Travelling in a taxi bus without making use of the taxi-mounting set, while the user is in the wheelchair.

• Transport of more than on e person.

• Moving other vehicles, e.g. pulling a trailer.

3 Operating instructions

Before operating the wheelchair, familiarise yourself with the information in the chapter “Safety”. Any maintenance work not included in this chapter, should only be carried out by your dealer.

3.1 Composition of the wheelchair

Figure 1 shows the Midway. The Antibes and the Atlantic have the same composition as the Midway.

3.2 Adjusting the wheelchair

Most settings only need to be set once, for example by your dealer. The electrically adjustable seating system (optional) and the comfort leg rests (optional) may, of course, be adjusted by yourself.

3.2.1 Seating system

As a default, the wheelchair is in the intermediate position. If you wish to raise or lower the seat height, carry out the following steps (see Figure 2 on page 12; the instructions are the same for all 3 models):

1. Remove the seat from the seat frame.

2. Remove the bolts from the front of the hinge plate (both left and right).

3. Unscrew the rear bolts (both left and right), but do not remove these as yet.

4. Tilt the hinge plate to the desired position and replace the front bolts into the holes (both left and right), but do not tighten these as yet.

5. Remove the rear bolts (both left and right).

6. Tilt the hinge plate to the desired position and replace the rear bolts into the holes (both left and right).

7. Tighten all bolts securely and make sure that the washers are in place between the hinge plate and the main frame.

8. Readjust the tilting angle to the desired position (see tilting angle below)

1. Unscrew the Allen bolt A (see Figure 3 above) a few twists (both left and right).

2. Unscrew the lock nut B (both left and right).

3. Remove the spring clip from the left-hand side spider.

4. Click loose the left-hand side spider.

5. Turn until the desired length is achieved.

6. Remove the spring clip from the right-hand side spider.

7. Click loose the right-hand side spider and click on the left-hand side spider.

8. Turn until the desired length is achieved.

9. Click the right-hand side spider back on.

10. Replace both spring clips.

11. Tighten both lock nuts.

12. Tighten both Allen bolts.

1. Unscrew the lock nut B on both sides a half a turn, see Figure 4 above.

2. Unscrew the 2 bolts A (on both sides) one turn.

3. Move the back sliding part to the desired position

4. Tighten both bolts A (both left and right). Tighten the lock nuts B.

2. Slide the arm rests into their desired positions (both left and right).

3. Tighten bolt A (both left and right).

1. Unscrew the 2 Allen bolts on the adjusting rod, see Figure 6 above.

2. Adjust to the desired position.

3. Tighten both Allen bolts.

3.2.2 Leg rests

1. Unscrew the bolts A, B and C a half a turn.

2. Using adjusting bolt D, rotate the leg-rest suspension to the desired angle.

3. Tighten bolts A, B and C securely to fix the desired setting.

1. Using Allen key number 4, unscrew the adjusting bolt A (see Figure 8 above).

2. Adjust to the desired lower-leg length.

3. Tighten the adjusting bolt.

Ankle hinge

1. Unscrew bolt B, but do not remove it (see Figure 8 above).

2. Use the two adjusting bolts C (see Figure 8 above) to adjust the desired angle.

3. Tighten bolt B.

2. Unscrew the two bolts B.

3. Move the arm rest to the desired angle.

4. Tighten bolts A and B.

1. Unscrew bolt A (if desired both left and right) one turn, see Figure 10 above.

2. Move the arm rest(s) to the desired position.

3. Tighten bolt A (if applicable, both left and right).

3.2.4 Controller

The controller housing may be used either on the left-hand side or on the right-hand side.

1. Using Allen key number 4, unscrew the adjusting bolt, see Figure 11 above.

2. Slide the controller to the desired position.

3. Tighten the adjusting bolt.

Height adjustment

The controller housing may be set in driving position or in lower position. This latter position is useful when taking place at a table. When in driving position, the controller housing is locked. The height of the driving position is adjusted as follows:

1. Put the controller in the lower position, see Figure 12 above.

2. Unscrew the M6 bolt, see Figure 12 above.

3. Move the pin to the desired position.

4. Tighten the bolt.

1. Loosen the M8 knob.

2. Slide the head rest to the desired height.

3. Tighten the knob.

(Also available as accessory: a height stop)

Angle adjustment

1. Using Allen key number 5, unscrew the M6 bolts, see Figure 13 above.

2. Turn the head rest to the desired position.

3. Tighten the bolts.

Depth adjustment

1. Using Allen key number 5, unscrew the two M6 bolts, see Figure 13 above.

2. Turn the head-rest holder in relation to the back frame to the desired position.

3. Tighten the bolts.

3.2.6 Suspension

Adjusting the spring pre-tension:

Turning nut A will raise or lower the spring pre-tension (see Figure 14 above).

The Atlantic is fitted with a double suspension package:

3.2.7 Electrically adjustable seating system (optional)

If your wheelchair is electrically adjustable, the following parts may be electrically adjusted, depending on your wheelchair model:

• leg rests

• back angle

• tilting angle

• seating height

The electrical adjustment is carried out using the knob on the controller and the joystick:

1. Select the part you wish to adjust by pressing the corresponding knob on the controller. The indicator light will go on to indicate that the corresponding part has been selected, see Figure 19: The following parts may be adjusted: indicator 1 both leg rests simultaneously indicator 2 left-hand side leg rest indicator 3 right-hand side leg rest indicator 4 back angle indicator 5 tilting angle indicator 6 high/low adjustment

2. Select the desired position for the part by pushing the joystick away from you (part will move downward or forward) or pulling it towards you (part will move upward or back).

3.2.8 Comfort leg rests (optional)

The comfort leg rest

The comfort leg rest has a hinge point at knee height and can be adjusted using the gas spring.

1. Push handle A forward to unlock the gas spring.

2. Move your leg to the desired position.

3. Release the handle, which will lock the gas spring.

3.2.9 Removing leg rest, arm rest, or leg rest

Swinging the leg rests aside and removing them:

1. Push handle A to the inside to unlock the leg rest (see Figure 15 above).

2. Swivel the leg rest aside.

3. If required, remove the leg rest by lifting it straight up.

• Take the arm rest from its guide.

Removing the head rest:

To remove the head rest, see "Head rest (optional)

3.2.10 Installing the seat belt (optional)

If you have chosen to install a seat belt, this is done using the rear Allen key, see Figure 4 on page 13.

Warning! A seat belt on a wheelchair only serves to provide support. It must not be used as a car seat belt.

3.2.11 Adjusting the control programme

The wheelchair has been provided with programmable controls. Do not attempt to change the settings of the programme yourself. A programming cabinet is needed for this. Only your dealer is able to change certain settings for you.

Warning! Changing the settings may affect safety and performance features. Ask your dealer for details.

3.3 Driving

3.3.1 Getting in

Before being seated in your wheelchair:

• Make sure the wheelchair is switched off.

• Make sure the wheelchair is NOT in neutral .

• Check the tyre pressure.

Fold the foot plates up and/or swivel the leg rests aside and be seated in the wheelchair.

3.3.2 Switching on the Midway and the Atlantic

Switching on the Midway and the Atlantic is done in the same way.

• Switch on the wheelchair by pressing the on/off button.

• Check the battery indicator to make sure the batteries have sufficient power for the journey you are planning.

• Check the lighting.

• Check the speed indicator to ensure that the corre ct speed is selecte d fo r the j ourney you are planning . If de sired , sele ct another

speed as follows:

• Press the increase-speed knob (on the right-hand side of the controller) or the reduce-speed knob (on the left-hand side of

the controller), see Figure 17.

• View the speed indicator to check whether you have selected the correct speed.

• Push the joystick forward to move forward with the wheelchair.

3.3.3 Switching on the Antibes

• Switch on the wheelchair by pressing the on/off button.

• Check the battery indicator to make sure the batteries have sufficient power for the journey you are planning.

• Check the lighting.

• Check the speed indicator to ensure that the corre ct speed is selecte d fo r the j ourney you are planning . If desi red , sele ct another

speed as follows:

• Press the ‘mode’ key once.

• Move the joystick to the right to set to a higher speed; move the joystick to the left to set to a lower speed.

• By pushing the joystick forward once and then releasing it, the joystick will return to the drive function.

3.3.4 Moving away

By moving the joystick to a position in between neutral and maximum, a driving speed is selected. This selection is continuously adjustable.

On the Midway and the Antibes, steering is also done using the joystick: when driving forward, the wheelchair will move into the direction in which you move the joystick.

Driving on sandy roads, especially if covered with loose sand, will use up a lot of energy. Keep in mind that your batteries will be depleted more quickly.

Avoid long-term driving through rain, and through deep puddles, mud, high grass, sno w, etc.

3.3.5 Brakes

By releasing the joystick of the wheelchair (moving it to its neutral position), the wheelchair will brake on the motor. As soon as the wheelchair has come to a standstill, you will hear a click, indicating that the parking brake is applied.

3.3.6 Coming to a standstill and making an emergency stop

During the braking action, the motor acts as the brake. Upon coming to a standstill, the electric parking brake is applied. The wheelchair is now in parking position. To make an emergency stop, move the joystick in the opposite direction.

3.3.7 Switching off

Switch off the wheelchair by pressing the on/off switch (see Figure 17 on page 24) If the wheelchair is equipped with a flipover joystick module, mounted in a tray, the wheelchair has to be turned OFF before the joystickbox is flipped over, to avoid unwanted activities of powered functions.

3.3.8 Transfer

Warning! Switch off the wheelchair before making a transfer. The parking brake will be applied auto matically.

There are 2 possibilities for making a transfer in or out of the wheelchair: Transfer sideways:

• position the wheelchair as closely as possible to the object of transfer (for example a table or a bed)

• remove one of the arm rests.

Transfer forward:

• position the wheelchair as closely as possible to the object of transfer (for example a table or a bed)

• fold up the foot plates, swivel the leg rests aside and, if applicable, remove the calf strap.

Warning! Never stand on the foot plates! This might cause the wheelchair to topple over.

Practise making the transfer in and out of your wheelchair with trained personnel present.

3.3.9 Corners

This front-wheel drive wheelchair allows you to make short, sharp corners. For example, if the centre of the driven front wheels is just past a door post, you can start the turning movement at this point and the wheelchair will start turning while still in the door opening. When driving at high speeds, a wide corner is taken by moving the joystick only very slightly.

Warning! Slow down when moving around corners.

3.3.10 Kerbs

The Midway was designed to take obstacles up to 8 centimetres. With the Antibes or the Atlantic, you can take obstacles with a maximum height of 5 centimetres.

However, it is recommended to always look for the lowest point.

Warning! Always drive onto and off a kerb at right angles, so that both front wheels and both back wheels touch

the pavement or the road at the same time!

Slow down when driving onto or off a kerb, and always do so at right angles.

Warning! This is a front-wheel drive wheelchair. When moving down slopes, extreme seating positions may

cause toppling over: always lean back as far as possible

3.3.11 Slopes

The wheelchair was designed in such a way that 7º slopes (approx. 12%) can be safely taken while in a neutral seating position.

Warning!

• It is possible to take a slope that is steeper than is considered safe

When driving down a slope steeper than 8 º, the maximum speed will be reduced. This way, the wheelchair will remain stable if suddenly braked.

Warning!

• Never drive up or down a slope diagonally. This may cause the wheelchair to topple over.

• Never unlock the motor on a slope: if your wheelchair is in neutral, the automatic parking brake will

not function. You may start moving down the slope inadvertently!

• Manoeuvring on slopes, whether forward or in reverse, may result in dangerous situations. Slow

down.

3.3.12 Reverse driving

You can reverse your wheelchair by pulling the joystick towards you. The maximum speed in reverse is lower than in forward.

Warning!

• When driving in reverse, the wheelchair will move into the opposite direction of the joystick!

• Your wheelchair will not be as powerful driving in reverse as it is when you are driving forward.

Keep this in mind when reversing up a slope.

3.3.13 Free Wheel

To be able to push the wheelchair, the parking brake must be switched off. This is done by moving the handle on the left-hand side of the wheelchair into the direction of the arrow, see Figure 18 below. When pushing the wheelchair, place one hand on the arm rest and the other against the back rest of the wheelchair.

Warning!

• Only use the neutral handle if the wheelchair needs to be pushed. While in neutral, the motors and the

automatic parking brake do not function.

• After pushing, immediately release the handle from neutral position, to make sure the automatic

parking brake will function again.

TIP

Switch off the wheelchair if it needs to be pushed: otherwise, it will be very hard to push.

3.3.14 Folding down the controller

Sometimes you may want to fold down the controller, for example if you are going to take place at a table with your wheelchair. To do this, press the handle (see Figure 19 above) and push down the controller.

The controller is returned to the driving position by moving it up until it is locked.

Attention!

Make sure the table is high enough to sit at with your wheelchair: if the table is too low, or if it has a broad edge, the controller may be damaged even in the lower position.

3.4 Batteries

3.4.1 Charging the batteries

Your wheelchair is provided with a charging point at the front of the controller. It is easily accessed even while you are sitting in your wheelchair. If you are going to use your wheelchair on a daily basis, it is recommended to charge the batteries every night.

To charge the batteries, proceed as follows:

• Switch off your wheelchair.

• Put the charging plug into the charging point, see Figure 20 BOVEN.

• Switch on the charger (refer to the user ma nual that goes with your battery charger).

• When the charging cycle is completed (re fer to th e user manual tha t goes with your battery charger), switch off the charger and

take the charging plug from the charging point.

Always complete a full charging cycle. Should you charge for only an hour each time, this would greatly affect the useful life and performance of the (dry) batteries.

It is not possible to drive with your wheelchair while the charging plug is switched on.

Attention!

Even if you do not use your wheelchair for any length of time, it is recommended to regularly charge the batteries (approx. once every three weeks) to make sure that the battery capacity is not diminished.

3.4.2 Replacing the batteries

Opening the battery tray and taking our the batteries:

• Remove the two star knobs on the left-hand side and the right-hand side of the plastic front, at the side between the large w heels.

• Remove the front.

• Pull the battery tray out by the strap.

• Take off the strap by pushing on the locks on the left and the right of the clasp. On some models, the clasp is replaced by Velcro.

• Remove the lid.

• Disconnect the battery terminals.

• Take out the batteries. The one at the back cannot be ta ken out un til the fi rst one has been re mo ved. (U se the hand grips to pi ck up

the batteries.)

Checking and cleaning the guides on the battery tray: Open the battery tray as described above. The lid and the plastic front can stay where they are. However, the seat should be taken

from the chair. Clean the rails with a clean towel, both the parts on the battery tray and the parts on the inside of the wheelchair. Lightly grease with a water-repellent lubricant, such as lithium grease.

The use of wet batteries is not permitted. To find out about the required type, see "Further specifications

3.5 Built-in protection devices

3.5.1 Midway

The Midway is equipped with the following built-in protection devices:

• The maximum speed may be reduced by the dealer.

• Parking brake: when the wheelchair comes to a standstill, the parking brake is applied automatically.

• The electronics are protected against overloading of the motor: automatic reset.

• The lighting circuit is short-proof.

• The main power circuit is protected against short-circuiting.

• Battery indicator: indicates when the batte ry needs to be recharged .

• If the wheelchair is switched on and the joysti ck is not in neutra l, the w heelchair w ill no t move . By moving the joy stick to the ne u tral

position, the driving function is reactivated.

3.5.2 Antibes

The Antibes is equipped with the following built-in protection devices:

• If your wheelchair is equipped w ith a high/low system, the max. speed is re duced w hen the high/low is in use.

• The maximum speed may be reduced by the dealer.

• Parking brake: when the wheelchair comes to a standstill, the parking brake is applied automatically.

3.7 Troubleshooting

3.7.1 Electric

The battery indicator is blinking if there is a malfunction or if your wheelchair is not ready for use.

• Check whether the charging plug was removed from the charging poin t.

• Make sure your wheelchai r i s NOT in neutral.

• Check whether the joystick is in the neutral position.

If your wheelchair does not react at all when it is switched on:

• Make sure the battery tray is closed properly .

Flip off the locking ring using a screwdriver. Take the plug from the lamp and replace the lamp. Replace the lamp and fix it with the locking ring.

Warning! If you experience repeated malfunctions, this may indicate a fault in the wheelchair: contact your dealer.

Attention!

Always switch off and on again after remedying the malfunction!

All other malfunctions must be remedied by dealer personnel.

3.7.2 Removing a wheel and exchanging a tyre

Preferably leave the changing of tyres to your dealer. Both on the back wheels and on the front wheels, the rims are divisible. If you want to exchange the tyre yourself, proceed as follows:

Front wheel:

• Unscrew the four inner M8 bolts and remove the wheel fro m the hub.

• Let the air out of the tyre.

• Unscrew the six wheel bolts.

Warning! Never unscrew these bolts while the tyre is still pumped up!

• Remove the old tyre and place the new one.

Make sure the inner tube does not get caugh t betw een the rim ha lves!

• Tighten the six wheel bolts.

• Mount the wheel on the hub by tightening the four M8 bol ts.

Back wheel:

• Unscrew the large M8 wheel bolt and remove the back wheel.

• Let the air out of the tyre.

• Unscrew the five wheel bolts.

Warning! Never unscrew these bolts while the tyre is still pumped up!

• Remove the old tyre and place the new one.

Make sure the inner tube does not get caugh t betw een the rim ha lves!

• Mount the wheel back in the fork.

3.8 Cleaning

Warning!

• Switch off the wheelchair before carrying out cleaning duties.

• Do not allow electric components to come in contact with water or other fluids.

Clean your wheelchair with a damp cloth. If desired, use a mild detergent. Do not use any abrasive or aggressive cleansers. We strongly advise against using a high-pressure cleaner!

3.9 Service and repair

The wheelchair should be serviced by the dealer at least once a year. Any repairs should be carried out by your dealer.

Any parts needing to be exchanged, should at least meet the specifications of the original parts. All parts can be ordered from Handicare. Complete exchange units are available for the wheelchairs.

this, Handicare cannot accept any liability.

3.10 Storage

Store your wheelchair in a place that is not damp. If you do not use your wheelchair for any length of time, it is recommended to regularly charge the batteries (approx. once every

three weeks) to make sure that the battery capacity is not diminished.

3.11 Transport in car or taxi

Warning! If the wheelchair has been inside a car for any length of time, it may become hot (over 41

C). Take care

when touching metal parts.

Only pick up the wheelchair by the frame parts, never by the arm or leg rests or the seat.

3.11.1 Chair without occupant

• Make sure the parking brake is applied when the wheel chair is insi de the vehi cle .

• Make sure the wheelchair i s fixed, especially if there is no separate luggage room (e.g. in a van).

The back rest may be folded down and the leg rests removed for transport.

• The adjusting rod is loose now and the back rest can be folded down.

• To remount the adjusting rod, replace bolt A and tighten it.

3.11.2 Chair with occupant

Warning! The wheelchair occupant may only be transported while seated in the wheelch air, if:

• The car or taxi has been specially equipped for the, AND

• The taxi-mounting set has been installed, AND

• The user is properly strapped in using the safety belts of the car or taxi

However, as far as possible, try to use the seat in the car or taxi and its safety belts, to transport the wheelchair owner. It is safer.

Operating instructions

The wheelchairs must be provided with mounting points (optional) for taxi mounting, see Figure 24 below. Various systems are available.

1. Make sure the parking brake is applied when the wheelchair is inside the vehicle.

2. Close the safety belt(s) of the taxi.

3. Install the taxi-mounting set. For the proper way of mounting to the car or taxi: see the instructions of the system concerned.

Follow any further instructions concerning wheelchair transport. In the Netherlands, these concern the Code Veilig Vervoer Rolstoelinzittenden (VVR), which is the Dutch code for safe transport of wheelchair occupants. In this code, wheelchairs are classified into three classes: "not transportable", "transportable", and "safely transportable" (meant to be transported with the occupant in the chair). The wheelchairs Antibes, Midway and Atlantic fall into the "transportable" class.

Warning! A seat belt on a wheelchair only serves to provide support. It must not be used as a car seat belt..

3.12 Disposing of the wheelchair

If the wheelchair is to be scrapped, the current, local instructions for waste disposal must be followed. Only generally known materials are used for the construction of the wheelchair. At the time of its construction, waste-disposal

facilities existed for these, and no special risks were known for the people carrying out the scrapping work.

Warning! The battery unit present in the wheelchair should be regarded as chemical waste and disposed of as

such.

The batteries can be fully recycled.

Your new Handicare wheelchair is equipped with the newest version software. This new software makes the wheelchair even more user-friendly because of the following options:

1. Operating both powered legrests simultaneously.

2. Outdoor mode, in which you can choose:

• Automatic indicators (Hazard lights on when driving backwards).

• Sound signal (horn) when driving b ackwards.

Ad 2. The outdoor mode is designed to make it easier for you to drive outdoors and, of course, to increase your personal safet y.

The option 'automatic indicators' in particular will be of great use to you, the indicators will switch on automatically when you start making a turn. When driving backwards, the warning lights will light automatically; this is a distinct signal for your fellow road users so that you are extra noted. Furthermore it is possible to activate a sound signal when driving backwards, by programming the horn mode.

Selecting the automatic indicators:

1. Wheelchair switched off..

2. Press both buttons of the indicators.

3. Switch on the wheelchair while pressing both indicator buttons, and hold them for 2 seconds until the speed LED(s) light up.

Selecting the sound signal (horn) when driving backwards:

1. Wheelchair switched off..

2. Press the horn button.

3. Switch on the wheelchair while pressing the horn button, and hold it for 2 seconds until the speed LED(s) light up. To activate this choice/ these choices you have to select the outdoor mode:

2. Press the left or right indicator button during 2 seconds, this will activate the mode.

Deactivating the outdoor mode:

When driving indoor again, it may be irritating when your indicators and / or sound signal is activated. The outdoor mode can be switched off by pressing the left or right indicator button for 2 seconds when the wheelchair is on.

Dieses Benutzerhandbuch beschreibt die Benutzung und die tägliche Wartung der elektrisch angetriebenen Rollstühle Midway, Antibes und Atlantic. Reparatur und Wartung hat durch Ihren Händler zu erfolgen. Von den Rollstühlen ist eine Serviceanleitung verfügbar (für weitere Informationen kö nnen Sie Kontakt mit Ihrem Händler aufnehmen). Die Batterien und das Batterieladegerät stellt Ihr Händler. Handicare empfiehlt dringend, Trockenbatteri en zu verwenden.

Dieses Handbuch ist Bestandteil des Rollstuhls! Verwahren Sie dieses Handbuch darum sorgfältig. Es enthält Informationen, die später erst nützlich sind, zum Beispiel für

die Reparatur und die Wartung. Bei Übergabe des Rollstuhl ist das Handbuch mitzuliefern.

Der Text in diesem Handbuch bezieht sich auf die Typen Midway, Antibes und Atlantic. Unterschiede zwischen den Typen sind deutlich im Text angegeben. Wird zwischen den drei Typen kein Unterschied gemacht, dann gilt der Text für alle 3 Typen.

• Die Gewährleistung findet Anwendung au f Mängel , die:

• bei normaler Benutzung des Rollstuhls auftreten,

• durch Materialfehler entstehen,

• durch Fertigungsfehler entstehen.

• normalen Verschleiß,

Der Hersteller haftet nicht für unsichere Situationen, Unfälle und Schaden, die eine Folge sind der Nichtb eachtung von Warnungen oder Vorschriften, wie am Rollstuhl oder in diesem Handbuch angegeben, zum Beispiel:

• unfachmännische oder falsche Benutzung oder Wartung;

• Benutzung für andere Anwendungen oder unter anderen Bedingungen als in diesem Handbuch angegeben;

• Verwendung anderer als der vorgeschriebenen Ersatzteile .

• Reparaturen ohne Zustimmung des Händle rs;

• Änderungen am Rollstuhl. Darunter fallen:

• Änderungen an der Steuerung;

1 Einleitung

1.1 Zweck und Funktion des Rollstuhls

Die elektrisch angetriebenen Rollstühle sind eine Mobilitätshilfe für Menschen, die nicht oder nur mühsam laufen können. Die Rollstühle haben Vorderradantrieb und das maximale Gefälle, das bergab genommen werden kann, ist für den Midway 8º (

13,7 %), für den Antibes 9º (15,4 %) und für den Atlantic 7º (12 %). Die maximale Reichweite der Typen Midway und Antibes beträgt unter idealen Bedingungen *40 km. Für den Atlantic beträgt die Reichweite *25 km. In der Realität kann diese niedriger sein, je nach Witterungsbedingungen, Alter der Batterien, Körpergewicht und ob viele Hügel und Steigungen befahren werden. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit der Rollstühle beträgt für den Midway 10 km/h und für den Antibes und den Atlantic 7 km/h beziehungsweise 9 km/h.

• Elektrisch innen/außen einstellbar (EBI):

Elektrischer Rollstuhl für den Gebrauch in/außer Haus und mit Joysticksteuerung ausgeführt. Der Rückenlehnenwinkel ist einoder verstellbar. Die Armlehne und die Beinstütze sind einstellbar. Klasseneinteilung nach EN 12184 (1999):

• Klasse A:

Kompakte, manövrierfähige Rollstühle, die nicht speziell dazu gedacht sind, Hindernisse außer Haus zu nehmen.

• Klasse B:

Rollstühle, die ausreichend kompakt und manövrierfähig sind für im Hause und in der Lage sind, Hindernisse außer Haus nehmen zu können.

• Klasse C:

Diese Rollstühle haben meist eine etwas größere Abmessung, sind nicht speziell für den Gebrauc h im Hause gedacht, sondern bestimmt zum Zurücklegen größerer Strecken außer Haus.

2 Sicherheit

2.1 Einleitung

Dieser Rollstuhl ist so entworfen und gebaut, dass sicher damit gefahren und dieser sicher ge wartet werden kann. Das gilt für den Einsatz, die Verhältnisse und die Vorschriften, wie in diesem Handbuch beschrieben. Das Lesen dieses Handbuches und das Befolgen der Anweisungen sind für jeden, der diesen Rollstuhl benutzen will, ei ne Notwendigkeit.

Einfache Wartungsarbeiten, die in den Bedienungsvorschriften angegeben sind, kann der Benutzer selbst ausführen. Wartungsarbeiten, die nicht in den Bedienungsvorschriften beschrieben sind, dürfen nur durch Ihren Händler ausgeführt werden.

2.2 Sicherheitsvorschriften

• Nur Personen, die die Bedienungsvo rsch riften gelesen und verstanden haben, dürfen den Rollstuhl bedienen.

• Der Rollstuhl ist kein Spielzeug: Lassen Sie keine Kinder damit spi elen.

• Schalten Sie beim Fahren niemals den Motor aus.

• Nehmen Sie keine Steigungen/Gefälle größer 7º, siehe Slopes Gefàlle op pagina 22.

• Fahren Sie niemals schräg eine Steigung hi nau f oder ein Gefälle hinunter.

• Entriegeln Sie den Motor nie auf einem Gefälle.

• Fahren Sie keine hohen Bordsteinkanten rauf oder runter. Für den Midw ay gilt: nicht höher a ls 8 cm. Für den Antibe s und den

Atlantic gilt: nicht höher als 5 cm.

• Nehmen Sie Bordsteinkanten imme r rech twinkli g, also nicht mit einem Vorderrad auf dem Bo rd stein und mit dem anderen

Vorderrad auf der Straße.

• Mäßigen Sie Ihre Geschwindigkeit in Kurven.

• Stellen Sie sicher, dass Ihre Beleuchtung in Ordnung ist.

• Schalten Sie bei Dämmerung oder im Dunkeln immer die Beleuchtung ein.

• Halten Sie sich auf öffentlichen Straßen a n die Straßenverkehrsordnung.

• Sorgen Sie für den richtigen Reifendruck (siehe "Further specifications

• " op pagina 30 oder den Sticker an Ihrem Rollstuhl).

• Es ist vorgeschrieben, keine Nassbatterien zu verwenden . Bei Na ssba tterien können Säuredä mpfe austre ten .

• Schutzeinrichtungen dürfen nicht entfernt oder außer Betrieb gesetzt werden.

• Sorgen Sie für ausreichende Wartung, so dass die Siche rhei t gewährlei ste t bleibt.

• Benutzen Sie den Rollstuhl nicht, wenn Schutzeinrichtunge n beschä dig t sind od er nich t ri chti g fun ktio nie ren. Sorgen Si e dafür ,

dass der Rollstuhl repariert wird.

• Nehmen Sie Hindernisse in neutraler Sitzpositi on (al so bei elektrisch ve rstel lbaren Rollstühl en mi t der Sitzh öhe in der nied rigsten

Stellung und die Beinstützen und die Rückenlehne möglichst verti kal).

• Halten Sie auf Fußwegen sicheren Abstand zu Fu ßgänge rn und berü cksichtigen Sie une rwar tete Bew egungen von Kindern .

• Schalten Sie in stark frequentierten Fußgänge rzone n auf eine geringere Geschwindigkeit.

• Verhindern Sie eine Überbelastung Ihres Rollstuhls, indem Sie extreme Situationen vermeiden (wie zum Beispiel länger mit

Höchstgeschwindigkeit eine starke Steigung hinauffah ren).

• Wenn es kalt ist, hat die Ba tte rie Ihres Rollstuhls eine geringere Leistung; berücksichtigen Sie das bei der Planung Ihrer Fahrt.

Achten Sie bei Frost auf den Batterieanzeiger!

• Der Rollstuhl ist entworfen, um damit im Freien fahren zu können und dadurch be stä ndig gegen Regen und Staub. Be i extremen

Bedingungen können jedoch Feuchtigkeit oder Schmutz eindrin gen. Ve rmeiden Sie daru m längere s Fahren bei starkem Regen , Fahren durch tiefe Pfützen, Sch la mm, hohe s Gras, Schnee und dergleichen.

• Das Fahren durch losen Sand koste t viel Energie: Beobachten Sie den Batterieanzeig er und ach ten Sie auf Überbelastung .

• Passen Sie Ihre Geschwindigkei t an, wenn Sie im Hause fahren.

• Schalten Sie den Rollstuhl aus, wenn Sie etwas länger stillstehen: Dadurch wird verhin dert, dass Ih re Kleidung oder die von

anderen Personen dahinter h ängen bleibt, wodurch sich der Rollstuhl unabsichtlich bewegen könnte.

• Benutzen Sie beim Transport in einem Taxi das Taxifixierungsset und den Sicherheitsgurt im Taxi.

• Das Fahrverhalten des Rollstuhls kann durch ele ktro magne tische Felde r beein flu sst werden , wie ve ru rsacht du rch tra gbare

Telefone und andere Sendegeräte. Schalten Sie Ihren Rollstuhl darum aus, wenn Sie solche Geräte benutzen.

• Ihr Rollstuhl kann elektromagnetische Felder stören, zum Beispiel die von Alarmanlagen in Geschäften.

2.3 Unzulässige Benutzung

Die Aufmerksamkeit wird auf folgenden Einsatz gelenkt, für den der Rollstuhl nicht geeignet ist:

• Transport in einem Taxibus, ohne von de m Taxifixierungsset Gebrauch zu machen, wobei der R oll stuh lfahrer im Rollstuhl sitzt.

• Transport mehrerer Personen.

• Das Bewegen anderer Fahrzeuge (zum Bei spi el da s Ziehen eines Anhängers).

Bevor Sie den Rollstuhl bedienen, müssen Sie sich mit den Informationen im Kapitel "Sicherheit" vertraut gemacht haben. Wartungsarbeiten, die in diesem Kapitel nicht angegeben sind, dürfen nur durch Ihren Händler ausgeführt werden.

3.1 Aufbau der Rollstühle

3.2 Einstellung des Rollstuhls

Die meisten Einstellungen brauchen nur einmal vorgenommen zu werden, zum Beispi el durch Ihren Händler. Das elektrisch verstellbare Sitzsystem (wahlweise) und die Komfortbeinstützen (wahlweise) können Sie selbstverstä ndlich selbst verstellen.

Bedienungsvorschriften

Der Rollstuhl ist werksseitig in der mittleren Stellung eingestellt. Gehen Sie wie folgt vor, wenn eine Sitzhöhe höher oder niedriger als diese Stellung gewünscht ist (siehe Figure 2 ; die Vorgehensweise ist bei den 3 Typen gleich):

1. Entfernen Sie den Sitz aus dem Sitzrahmen.

2. Entfernen Sie die Schraube an der Vorderseite der Scharnierplatte (sowohl links wie rechts).

3. Lösen Sie die hintere Schraube (sowohl links wie rechts), entfernen Sie diese aber noch nicht.

4. Kippen Sie die Scharnierplatte in die gewünschte Stellung und stecken Sie die vordere Schraube in die Löcher (sowohl links wie rechts), drehen Sie diese aber noch nicht fest.

5. Entfernen Sie die hintere Schraube (sowohl links wie rechts).

3.2.7 Elektrisch verstellbares Sitzsystem (wahlweise)

Ist Ihr Rollstuhl elektrisch verstellbar, können je nach Ausführung Ihres Rollstuhls ein oder mehr der folgenden Segmente elektrisch verstellt werden:

• Beinstützen

• Rückenwinkel

• Kippwinkel

• Sitzhöhe

Die elektrische Verstellung erfolgt mit der Taste am Steuerkasten und dem Joystick:

1. Wählen Sie das Segment, das Sie verstellen wollen, indem Sie die Taste am Steuerkasten drücken, die zu diesem Segment gehört. Das Lämpchen bei diesem Segment zeigt an, dass das Segment selektiert ist, siehe Bild 19. Folgende Segmente können verstellt werden: Anzeiger 1 beide Beinstützen gleichzeitig Anzeiger 2 linke Beinstütze Anzeiger 3 rechte Beinstütze Anzeiger 4 Rückenwinkel Anzeiger 5 Kippen Anzeiger 6 hoch/niedrig

2. Wählen Sie die gewünschte Stellung des Segments, indem Sie den Joystick von sich weg bewegen (Segment geht nach unten bzw. nach vorn) oder zu sich hin bewegen (Segment geht nach oben bzw. nach hint en).

3.2.8 Komfortbeinstützen (wahlweise)

Die Komfortbeinstütze

Die Komfortbeinstütze hat einen Gelenkpunkt in Kniehöhe und kann mithilfe einer Gasfeder verstellt werden.

1. Drücken Sie den Hebel A nach vorn, sodass die Gasfeder entriegelt wird.

2. Bringen Sie Ihr Bein in die gewünschte Position.

3. Lassen Sie den Hebel los, sodass die Gasfeder wieder verriegelt wird.

Die elektrische Komfortbeinstütze

Siehe "Electrically adjustable seating system (optional) " Seite 18 für die Verstellweise.

3.2.9 Abnehmen der Beinstütze, Armstütze oder Kopfstütze

3.2.10 Gurtbestigung (wahlweise)

Wenn Sie einen Gurt gewählt haben, kann dieser mit der hinteren Inbusschraube befestigt werden.

Warnung! Ein eventueller Gurt, der am Rollstuhl selbst befestigt ist, ist lediglich ein Haltegurt. Dieser eignet sich nicht

als Sicherheitsgurt.

3.2.11 Ändern des Steuerprogramms

Der Rollstuhl ist mit einer programmierbaren Steuerung ausgerüstet. Sie können die Einstellungen des Programms nicht selbst ändern. Dafür wird ein Programmierkaste n benötigt. Nur Ihr Händler kann bestimmte Einstellungen nach Ihren Wünschen ändern.

Warnung! Das Ändern von Einstellungen kann die Sicherheit und die Leistungen beeinflussen. Lassen Sie sich durch

den Händler darüber informieren.

3.3 Das Fahren

3.3.1 Einsteigen

Bevor Sie im Rollstuhl Platz nehmen:

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob der Rollstuhl ausgeschaltet ist.

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob der Rollstuhl nicht im Leerlauf steht.

• Prüfen Sie den Reifendruck.

Klappen Sie die Fußplatte hoch und/oder drehen Sie die Beinstützen weg und nehmen Sie im Rollstuhl Platz.

3.3.2 Einschalten des Midway und des Atlantic

Das Einschalten des Midway und des Atlantic erfolgt auf die gleiche Weise.

• Sie schalten den Rollstuhl ein, indem Sie den Ein/Aus-Knopf drücken.

• Kontrollieren Sie am Batterieanzeiger, ob die Batterien für die geplante Fahrt ausreichend geladen sind.

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob die Beleuchtung funktioniert.

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob der Geschwindigkeitsanzeiger für die geplante Fahrt auf der gewünschten Geschwindigkeit steht. Sie können

wie folgt eine andere Geschw indigkeit wählen:

• Drücken Sie die Taste für Geschwindigkeitserhöhung (rechts am Steuerkasten) oder für Geschwindigkeitsverringerung (links am Steuerkasten), siehe Bild 17.

• Am Geschwindigkeitsanzeiger können Sie sehen, ob Si e die gewünschte Geschwindigkeit gewählt haben.

• Wenn Sie den Joystick nach vorn bewegen, fährt der Rollstuhl vor wärts.

3.3.3 Einschalten des Antibes

• Sie schalten den Rollstuhl ein, indem Sie den Ein/Aus-Knopf drücken.

• Kontrollieren Sie am Batterieanzeiger, ob die Batterien für die geplante Fahrt ausreichend geladen sind.

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob die Beleuchtung funktioniert.

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob der Geschwindigkeitsanzeiger für die geplante Fahrt auf der gewünschten Geschwindigkeit steht. Sie können

wie folgt eine andere Geschw indigkeit wählen:

• Drücken Sie einmal die 'Mode'-Taste.

• Bewegen Sie den Joystick nach rechts zum Einstellen einer höheren Geschwindigkeit; bewegen Sie den Joystick nach

links zum Einstellen einer geringeren Geschwindigkeit.

• Wenn Sie den Joystick einmal nach vorn bewegen und wieder loslassen, geht der Joystick wieder in Fahrfunktion.

3.3.4 Losfahren

Sie können die gewünschte Fahrgeschwindigkeit stufenlos einstellen, indem Sie den Joystick in eine Stellung zwischen neutral und maximal bewegen.

Den Midway und den Antibes steuern Sie ebenfalls mit dem Joystick: Beim vorwärts fahren fährt der Rollstuhl in die Richtung, in die Sie den Joystick bewegen.

Das Fahren auf Sandwegen, vor allem durch losen Sand, kostet viel Energie; berücksichtigen Sie, dass Ihre Batterie dann schneller leer ist.

Vermeiden Sie längeres Fahren bei starkem Regen, Fahren durch tiefe Pfützen, Schlamm, hohes Gras, Schnee und dergleichen.

3.3.5 Bremsen

Wenn Sie den Joystick des Rollstuhls loslassen (in seine neutrale Stellung bewegen), wird der Rollstuhl durch den Motor abgebremst. Sobald der Rollstuhl stillsteht, hören Sie einen Klick und die Parkbremse wird eingeschaltet.

3.3.6 Anhalten und Notbremsung

Beim Abbremsen funktioniert der Motor als Bremse. Im Moment des Stillstands wird die elektrische Parkbremse eingeschaltet und der Rollstuhl steht in der Parkstellung. Eine Notbremsung können Sie machen, indem Sie den Joystick in die entgegengesetzte Richtung bewegen.

3.3.7 Ausschalten

Schalten Sie den Rollstuhl mit dem Ein/Aus-Schalter aus (siehe Bild 17 auf Seite 23)

3.3.8 Ein- und Aussteigen

Warnung! Schalten Sie zum Ein- oder Aussteigen den Rollstuhl aus. Die Parkbremse wird dann automatisch

eingeschaltet.

Beim Ein- oder Aussteigen gibt es 2 Möglichkeiten: Seitliches Aussteigen:

• Fahren Sie den Rollstuhl so nahe wie möglich an das Objekt, wohin de r Fahre r sich begeben will (zum Beispiel an einen Tisch oder

ein Bett).

• Nehmen Sie eine der beiden Armstützen ab.

Aussteigen nach vorn:

• Fahren Sie den Rollstuhl so nahe wie möglich an das Objekt, wohin de r Fahre r sich begeben will (zum Beispiel an einen Tisch oder

ein Bett).

• Klappen Sie die Fußplatten hoch, drehen Sie die Bei nstüt zen zu r Seite und en tfe rnen Si e even tuell das Wadenband .

Warnung! Stellen Sie sich nicht auf die Fußplatten, weil der Rollstuhl sonst umkippen kann.

Üben Sie das Ein- und Aussteigen mit geschultem Personal.

3.3.9 Kurven

Mit diesem Rollstuhl mit Vorderradantrieb können Kurven kurz und scharf genommen werden. Wenn die Mitte der angetriebenen Vorderräder zum Beispiel einen Türrahmen passiert hat, können Sie mit der Drehbewegung bere its beginnen, der Rollstuhl dreht sich dann bereits in der Türöffnung. Das Nehmen von weiten Kurven bei höherer Fahrgeschwindigkeit kann durch eine geringe Veränderung der Joystickstellung eingeleitet werden.

Warnung! Mäßigen Sie in Kurven Ihre Geschwindigkeit.

3.3.10 Bordsteinkanten

Der Midway ist entworfen, um Hindernisses von maximal 8 Zentimetern nehmen zu können, mit dem Antibes oder dem Atlantic können Sie Hindernisse von maximal 5 Zentimetern nehmen.

Es wird aber empfohlen, immer den niedrigsten Punkt zu suchen.

Warnung! Fahren Sie eine Bordsteinkante immer rechtwinklig rauf und runter, sodass beide Vorderräder und beide

Hinterräder gleichzeitig Kontakt mit dem Bürgersteig oder mit der Straße halten!

Mäßigen Sie Ihre Geschwindigkeit beim Herauf- und Herunterfahren von Bordsteinkanten und fahren Sie eine Bordsteinkante immer rechtwinklig herauf und herunter.

Bedienungsvorschriften

Warnung! Dies ist ein Rollstuhl mit Vorderradantrieb. Beim Fahren an Abfahrten kann bei extremen Sitzpositionen

Kippgefahr auftreten: Lehnen Sie sich so weit wie möglich nach hinten.

3.3.11 Steigungen/Gefälle

Der Rollstuhl ist so entworfen, dass Steigungen/Gefälle von 7º (etwa 12 %) in neutraler Sitzposition sicher zu befahren sind.

Warnung! Der Rollstuhl kann eine größere Steigung hinauffahren als für sicher gehalten wird.

Bei der Abfahrt an einem Gefälle größer 8º wird die Höchstgeschwindigkeit reduziert, sodass der Rollstuhl bei plötzlichem Bremsen stabil bleibt.

Warnung!

• Fahren Sie eine Steigung nie schräg hinauf oder hinunter, weil die Kippgefahr dann größer ist.

• Entriegeln Sie den Motor nie auf einem Gefälle. Wenn Ihr Rollstuhl im Leerlauf steht, funktioniert die

automatische Parkbremse nicht und Sie könnten unerwartet das Gefälle hinunter fahren.

• Das Manövrieren an Steigungen, sowohl vor- wie rückwärts, kann zu gefährlichen Situationen führen.

Mäßigen Sie Ihre Geschwindigkeit.

3.3.12 Rückwärts fahren

Sie können mit Ihrem Rollstuhl rückwärts fahren, indem Sie den Joystick zu sich hin bewegen. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit rückwärts ist geringer als vorwärts.

Warnung!

• Beim rückwärts lenken fährt der Rollstuhl in die entgegengesetzte Richtung, in die Sie den Joystick

bewegen!

• Die Kraft Ihres Rollstuhls ist beim rückwärts fahren geringer, als wenn Sie vorwärts fahren.

Berücksichtigen Sie dies beim rückwärts fahren an Steigungen.

3.3.13 Leerlauf

Um den Rollstuhl schieben zu können, muss die Parkbremse ausgeschalt et sein. Dies können Sie tun, indem Sie den Hebel an der linken oder rechten Seite des Rollstuhls in Pfeilrichtung umlegen, siehe 34. Halten Sie beim Schieben des Rollstuhls eine Hand auf der Armlehne und die andere an der Rückenlehne des Rollstuhls.

• Betätigen Sie den Leerlaufhebel nur, wenn der Rollstuhl geschoben werden soll. Im Leerlauf

funktionieren die Motoren und die automatische Parkbremse nicht mehr.

• Bringen Sie nach dem Schieben den Hebel sofort wieder aus der Leerlaufstellung, sodass die

automatische Parkbremse wieder arbeitet.

TIPP

Schalten Sie den Rollstuhl aus, wenn dieser geschoben werden soll. Er lässt sich dann lei c hter schieben.

3.3.14 Herunterklappen Steuerkasten

Hebel

Manchmal ist es praktisch, den Steuerkasten herunterzuklappen, zum Beispiel wenn Sie sich mit Ihrem Rollstuhl an einen Tisch setzen möchten. Betätigen Sie dazu den Hebel (siehe Bild 35) und drücken Sie den Steuerkasten nach unten.

Sie können den Steuerkasten wieder in die Fahrstellung bringen, indem Si e diesen nach oben bewegen, bis er wieder verriegelt ist.

Achten Sie darauf, ob der Tisch hoch genug ist, um mit Ihrem Rollstuhl daran zu sitzen: Bei sehr niedrigen Tischen oder bei Tischen mit einem breiten Rand kann der Steuerkasten selbst in der niedrigen Stellung beschädigt werden.

3.4 Batterien

3.4.1 Laden der Batterien

Ihr Rollstuhl verfügt über eine Ladebuchse an der Vorderseite des Steuerkastens. Diese ist leicht zugänglich, auch wenn Sie noch in Ihrem Rollstuhl sitzen. Wenn Sie Ihren Rollstuhl täglich benutzen, empfiehlt es sich, die Batterien jede Nacht zu laden.

Gehen Sie zum Laden der Batterien wie folgt vor:

• Schalten Sie Ihren Rollstuhl aus.

• Stecken Sie den Ladestecker in die Ladebuchse, siehe Bild 36.

• Schalten Sie das Ladegerät ein (siehe dazu die Betriebsanleitung Ihres Batterieladegerätes).

• Wenn der Ladevorgang beendet ist (sieh e dazu die Betriebsanleitung Ihre s Ba tterieladegerätes), schalten Sie dann d as Ladegerät

aus und ziehen Sie den Ladestec ke r aus der Ladebuchse.

Laden Sie die Batterien immer einen vollen Zyklus; nur eine Stunde Laden beeinträchtigt die Lebensdauer und die Kapazität der (Trocken)batterien.

Bei gestecktem Ladestecker ist es nicht möglich, mit Ihrem Rollstuhl zu fahren.

Achtung!

Auch wenn Sie Ihren Rollstuhl längere Zeit nicht benutzt haben, empfiehlt es sich, die Batterien regelmä ßig zu laden (ca. alle drei Wochen), sodass die Batteriekapazität nicht abnimmt.

3.4.2 Auswechseln der Batterien

Batteriebehälter öffnen und Batterien herausnehmen:

• Entfernen Sie die beiden sternförmig en Knöpfe links und rechts an der Kunststofffron t, an der Seite zwischen den großen Räde rn .

• Nehmen Sie die Front ab.

• Ziehen Sie den Batteriebehälter am Riemen heraus.

• Nehmen Sie den Riemen ab, indem Sie die Verriegelu ng links und re chts an der Schna lle eind rü cken, bei manchen Modellen ist

die Schnalle durch ein Klettband ersetzt.

• Entfernen Sie den Deckel.

• Entkoppeln Sie die Batteriepole.

• Nehmen Sie die Batterien he raus, die hintere Batterie kann erst herausgenommen werden, wenn die erste entfernt ist. Heben Sie

die Batterien an den Griffen hoch.

Führungsschienen im Batteriebehälter kontrollieren/reinigen: Öffnen Sie den Batteriebehälter wie oben beschrieben. Der Deckel und die Kunststofffront können sitzen bleiben. Sie müssen aber

wohl die Sitzfläche aus dem Sitz nehmen. Reinigen Sie die Schienen mit einem sauberen Tuch, sowohl die Teile am Batteriebehälter als auch d ie Teile im Rollstuhl. Leicht einschmieren mit einem wasserabweisenden Schmiermittel, zum Beispiel Lithiumfett.

Die Verwendung von Nassbatterien ist nicht zulässig. Siehe für den erforderlichen Typ "Further specifications " Seite 30.

3.5 Eingebaute Sicherheitsvorrichtungen

3.5.1 Midway

Im Midway sind folgende Sicherheitsvorrichtungen eingebaut:

• Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit kann durch den Händler red uziert w erden.

• Parkbremse: Wenn der Rollstuhl stillsteht, wird automatisch die Parkbremse eingeschaltet.

• Die Elektronik ist gegen Überbelastung des Motors abge siche rt: Au toma ti sches Rese t.

• Der Beleuchtungsstromkreis ist kurzschlussfest.

• Der Hauptstromkreis ist gegen Kurzschluss abgesichert.

• Batterieanzeiger: Zeigt an, wann die Batterie geladen werden muss.

• Wird der Rollstuhl eingeschaltet und der Joystick befindet sich nicht in der neutralen Stellung, dann fährt de r Rollstuhl nicht. Wenn

Sie den Joystick kurz in die neutrale Stellung bringen, steht die Fahrfun kti on w ieder zur Verfügung .

3.5.2 Antibes

Im Antibes sind folgende Sicherheitsvorrichtungen eingebaut:

• Ist Ihr Rollstuhl mit einem hoch/niedrig System ausgerüstet, wird die Höchstgeschwindigkeit reduziert, wenn die ses System

eingeschaltet ist.

3.7 Störungen

3.7.1 Elektrisch

Der Batterieanzeiger blinkt, wenn es eine Störung gibt oder wenn Ihr Rollstuhl nicht fahrbereit ist.

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob der Ladeste cker aus der Ladebuchse genommen ist.

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob der Rollstuhl nicht im Leerlauf steht.

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob der Joystick in der neutralen Position steht.

Wenn Ihr Rollstuhl überhaupt nicht auf das Einschalten reagiert:

• Kontrollieren Sie, ob das Batterieschubfach richtig geschlossen ist.

• Kontrollieren Sie die Ladesiche run g und wechseln Sie diese nötigen falls a us (siehe bild 22 op pagina 25). La ssen Sie bei einer

Wiederholung dieser Störung das Batterieladegerä t von Ihrem Hä ndle r kon trollieren .

• Kontrollieren Sie die Hauptsi che run g, die sich im Batterieschubfach befindet (siehe bild 22 op pagina 25). Ziehen Sie Ihren Händl er

zu Rate, wenn diese Sicherung defekt ist.

• Schalten Sie erneut aus und ein.

Entfernen Sie die Kappe, indem Sie einen Schraubendreher in die Nu t hinter de r Kappe stecken. Wechseln Sie die 12V Stecklampe aus.

• Scheinwerfer auswechseln:

Heben Sie den Sicherungsring mit e ine m Sch rau bendreher aus. Ziehen Sie den Stecker von der Lampe und wechseln Sie die Lampe aus. Danach Lampe zurücksetzen und mit dem Sicherun gsring fixieren .

Warnung! Sollten die Störungen sich wiederholen, kann dies auf einen Fehler am Rollstuhl hindeuten: Ziehen Sie

Ihren Händler zu Rate.

Nach Behebung einer Störung immer erneut aus- und einschalten!

Die Behebung anderer Störungen muss durch Händlerpersonal vorgenommen werden.

3.7.2 Rad- und Reifenwechsel

Überlassen Sie das Wechseln eines Reifens vorzugsweise Ihrem Händler. An den Hinter- und den Vorderrädern sind die Felgen teilbar. Gehen Sie beim Wechseln eines Reifens wie folgt vor:

Vorderrad:

• Lösen Sie die vier inneren M8 Schraube n und nehmen Sie das Rad von der Nabe.

• Lassen Sie die Luft aus dem Reifen.

• Lösen Sie die sechs Radschrauben .

Warnung! Lösen Sie diese Schrauben niemals, wenn der Reifen noch aufgepump t ist!

• Entfernen Sie den alten Reifen und montieren Sie den neuen.

Achten Sie darauf, dass der Schlauch nicht zwischen die Felgenhäl ften geklemmt wird!

• Drehen Sie die sechs Radschrauben wieder fest.

• Montieren Sie das Rad auf der Nabe, indem Sie die vier M8 Schrauben anziehen.

Hinterrad:

• Lösen Sie die große M8 Radschraube und entfernen Sie das Hinterrad.

• Lassen Sie die Luft aus dem Reifen.

• Lösen Sie die fünf Radschrauben.

Warnung! Lösen Sie diese Schrauben niemals, wenn der Reifen noch aufgepump t ist!

• Entfernen Sie den alten Reifen und montieren Sie den neuen.

Achten Sie darauf, dass der Schlauch nicht zwischen die Felgenhäl ften geklemmt wird!

• Montieren Sie das Rad wieder zurück in die Gabel .

Bedienungsvorschriften

3.8 Reinigung

Warnung!

• Der Rollstuhl muss bei Reinigungsarbeiten ausgeschaltet sein.

• Elektrische Komponenten dürfen nicht mit Wasser oder anderen Flüssigkeiten in Berührung kommen.

Reinigen Sie Ihren Rollstuhl mit einem feuchten Tuch. Verwenden Sie eventuell ein milde s Reinigungsmittel. Nehmen Sie kein scheuerndes oder aggressives Reinigungsmittel. Vom Gebrauch eines Hochdruckreinigers wird strengstens abgeraten!

3.9 Service und Reparatur

Mindestens 1 Mal jährlich muss der Rollstuhl durch den Händler inspiziert werden. Reparaturen müssen von Ihrem Händler durchgeführt werden.

Alle Teile, die ausgewechselt werden, müssen mindestens die Spezifikationen der vorgeschriebenen T eile erfüllen. Alle Ersatzteile können bei der Handicare bestellt werden. Für die Rollstühle sind komplette Ersatzeinheiten erhältlich.

Warnung! Wenn von den obigen Vorschriften abgewichen wird, kann das Folgen für die Sicherheit des Rollstuhls

haben. Die Handicare übernimmt dafür keine Haftung.

Das Schaltschema der Batterien finden Sie unter der Abdeckung des Batterieschubfachs. Sie können Inspektionen und Arbeiten registrieren in der "Appendix 2. Maintenance table

" Seite 32.

3.10 Abstellen

Stellen Sie Ihren Rollstuhl in einem trocknen Raum ab. Wenn Sie Ihren Rollstuhl längere Zeit nicht benutzen, empfiehlt es sich, die Batterien regelmäßig zu laden (ca. alle drei Wochen),

sodass die Batteriekapazität nicht abnimmt.

3.11 Transport im Auto oder Taxi

Warnung! Wenn Ihr Rollstuhl längere Zeit im Auto gestanden hat, kann dieser warm werden (über 410 C). Seien Sie

vorsichtig beim Berühren von Metallteilen.

Achtung!

Heben Sie den Rollstuhl nur an den Rahmenteilen an, nicht an den Arm- oder Beinstützen oder am Sitz.

3.11.1 Stuhl ohne Fahrer

• Stellen Sie sicher, dass der Rollstuhl im Transportmittel auf der Parkb remse steht.

• Stellen Sie sicher, dass der Rollstuhl gesichert ist, sicher wenn es keinen getrennten Kofferraum gibt (zum Beispiel in einem

Omnibus).

Zum Transport kann die Rückenlehne heruntergeklap pt und die Beinstützen abgenommen werden.

Bedienungsvorschriften

• Lösen Sie Schraube A mit dem Schlüssel 13 und entfernen Sie diese, siehe Bild 39.

• Die Stellstange ist nun lose und die Rückenlehne kann herunterge klappt werden.

• Für das erneute Befestigen der Stellstange, Schraube A wieder einsetzen und festdrehen.

Zum Abnehmen der Beinstützen: siehe "Removing leg rest, arm rest, or leg rest .

3.11.2 Mit Fahrer im Stuhl

Warnung! Ein Rollstuhlfahrer darf nur sitzend im Rollstuhl transportiert werden, wenn:

• Das Auto oder Taxi dazu eingerichtet ist.

• Die Taxifixierung angebracht ist.

• Der Rollstuhlfahrer mithilfe der Sicherheitsgurte im Auto oder Taxi fixiert ist.

Setzen Sie sich möglichst auf den Sitz des Autos oder Taxis und legen Sie den Sicherheitsgurt um. Das ist sicherer.

Die Rollstühle müssen zur Taxifixierung mit Befestigungspunkten (wahlweise) a usgerüstet sein, siehe BildFigure 240. Verschiedene Systeme sind erhältlich.

Befestigungspunkt an den Hinterrädern des Rollstuhls

1. Stellen Sie sicher, dass der Rollstuhl im Transportmittel auf der Parkbremse steht.

2. Legen Sie die Sicherheitsgurte im Taxi an.

3. Bringen Sie die Taxifixierung an. Für die Art der Befestigung im Auto oder Taxi: siehe Vorschriften des betreffenden Systems. Befolgen Sie eventuelle weitere Vorschriften betreffend Rollstuhltransport. In den Ni ederlanden besteht hierfür der Code Veilig

Vervoer Rolstoelinzittenden (Code Sicherer Transport von Rollstuhlfahrern). Darin werden Rollstühle in 3 Klassen eingeteilt: "nicht transportabel", "transportabel", und "sicher transportabel" (bei einer Person im Stuhl). Die Rollstühle Antibes, Midway und Atlantic fallen in die Klasse "transportabel".

Warnung! Ein eventueller Gurt, der am Rollstuhl selbst befestigt ist, ist lediglich ein Haltegurt. Dieser eignet sich nicht

als Sicherheitsgurt.

3.12 Entsorgung des Rollstuhls

Bei Verschrottung des Rollstuhls sind die Vorschriften für Abfallbeseitigung zu beachten, die am Ort und zum Zeitpunkt der Verschrottung gelten.

Im Rollstuhl sind nur allgemein bekannte Werkstoffe verarbeitet. Zum Zeitpunkt der Herstellung bestanden hierfür Abfallbeseitigungsmöglichkeiten und es waren keine besonderen Risiken für Personen bekannt, die mit Verschrottungsarbeiten beauftragt sind.

Warnung! Die Batterieeinheit im Rollstuhl ist als chemischer Abfall zu betrachten und muss entsprechend entso rg t

werden.

Die Batterien können recycelt werden.

ACHTUNG !!

Wheelbase Joystickmodul (Softwareversion V1.x)

Ihr neuer Handicare Rollstuhl ist mit der neuesten Version der Software ausgestattet. Dank der folgenden Softwareoptionen wird der Rollstuhl noch benutzerfreundlicher:

1. Beide Elektrobeinstützen sind gleichzeitig zu bedienen.

2. Außenfahrmodus, wobei man auswählen kann:

• automatische Blinker (Alarmlampen eingeschaltet beim Rückwärtsfahren.)

• Tonsignal (Hupe) beim Rückwärtsfahren.

Nachtrag 1. Die Option, bei der beide Beinstützen gleichzeitig zu bedienen sind, schließt natürlich nicht aus, daß Sie sie auch einzeln einstellen können. Bei der aktivierten Option bleibt diese Möglichkeit ganz einfach bestehen.

Anlage

Option ein/ausschalten.

1. Rollstuhl ist ausgeschaltet.

2. Drücken Sie auf die Knöpfe der beiden Beinstützen.

3. Während Sie die Knöpfe der beiden Beinstützen gedrückt halten, schalten Sie den Rollstuhl ein un d halten die Knöpfe solange fest, bis die Geschwindigkeitsleuchtdiode(n) aufleuchtet(en).

Option bedienen

Bei der eingeschalteten Option kann man jetzt die beiden Beinstützen einschalten, indem man hintereinander auf die Knöpfe der linken und der rechten Beinstütze drückt (die beiden Leuchtdioden leuchten auf) un d anschließend die Beinstützen mit dem Joystick bedient.

Nachtrag 2. Um für Sie das Außenfahren zu vereinfachen, und natürlich auch für Ihre persönliche Sicherheit auf der Straße, besteht die Außenfahroption. Vor allem die Option „Automatische Blinker“ erleichtert das Außenfahren – beim Abbiegen schalten sich die Blinker automatisch ein. Die Alarmlampen leuchten automatisch beim Rück wärtsfahren auf. Hiermit bekommen andere Verkehrsteilnehmer ein deutliches Zeichen, damit Sie besonders auffällig sind. Beim Rückwärtsfahren haben Sie auch die Möglichkeit, einTonsignal zu aktiveren, indem Sie den Modus „Hupen“ programmieren.

Automatische Blinker wählen:

1. Rollstuhl ist ausgeschaltet.

2. Auf die beiden Knöpfe der Blinker drücken.

3. Während Sie die beiden Blinkerknöpfe gedrückt halten, schalten Sie den Rollstuhl ein und halten die Knöpfe solange fest, bis die Geschwindigkeitsleuchtdiode(n) aufleuchtet(en).

Tonsignal (Hupe) beim Rückwärtsfahren wählen:

1. Rollstuhl ist ausgeschaltet.

2. Drücken Sie auf den Knopf für die Hupe.

3. Während Sie den Hupeknopf gedrückt halten, schalten Sie den Rollstuhl ein und halten den Knopf solange fest, bis die Geschwindigkeitsleuchtdiode(n) aufleuchtet(en).

Um diese Möglichkeit(en) nutzen zu können, müssen Sie den Außenfahrmodus noch wählen:

1. Rollstuhl ist eingeschaltet.

2. Drücken Sie 2 Sekunden lang den Knopf des linken oder des rechten Blinkers. Der Modus wird hiermit aktiviert.

Den Außenfahrmodus deaktivieren:

Wenn Sie wieder nach drinnen fahren, kann es natürlich lästig sein, daß Ihre Blinker bzw. das T onsignal aktiviert sind. Sie können den Außenfahrmodus ausschalten, indem Sie den linken oder rechten Blinkerschalter gedrückt halten.
