IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!
When using electric appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including the following:
1. Read all instructions.
2. To protect against risk of electrical
shock, do not put cord, plug, base, or motor in water or other liquid.
3. Close supervision is necessary when
any appliance is used by or near children.
4. Unplug cord from outlet when not in
use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning.
5. Avoid contact with moving parts.
6. Do not operate any appliance with a
damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions, or is dropped or damaged in any manner. Call our toll-free customer service number for information on examination, repair or electrical or mechanical adjustment.
7. The use of attachments, including
canning jars, not recommended or sold by Hamilton Beach/Proctor-Silex, Inc. may cause a risk of injury to persons.
8. Do not use outdoors.
9. Do not let cord hang over edge of table
or counter, or touch hot surfaces, including the stove.
10. Keep hands and utensils out of jar while
blending to reduce the risk of severe personal injury and/or damage to blender. A rubber spatula may be used but must be used only when blender is not running.
11. Blades are sharp; handle carefully–
especially when assembling, disassembling or cleaning inside blender jar.
12. Do not use a broken, chipped, or
cracked blender jar.
13. Do not use broken, cracked, or loose
cutting blades.
14. To reduce the risk of injury, never place
cutting unit blades on base without jar properly attached.
15. Always operate blender with lid in
place.
16. When blending hot liquids, remove
center piece of two-piece lid. Do not fill blender jar beyond the 3-cup (750 ml) level. Always begin processing at the lowest speed setting. Keep hands and other exposed skin away from the cover opening to reduce the risk of possible burns.
17. Screw on cutting assembly firmly. Injury
can result if moving blades accidentally become exposed.
18. If the jar should turn when the motor is
switched ON, switch OFF immediately and tighten jar in threaded cutting assembly.
19. Do not leave blender unattended while
it is operating.
20. To disconnect cord, turn the control to
OFF. Then remove plug from wall outlet.
21. Do not use appliance for other than
intended purpose.
Shock Hazard
• Do not immerse this appliance in water or other liquid.
• This appliance has a polarized plug (one wide blade) that reduces the risk of electrical shock. The plug fits only one way into a polarized outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the plug by modifying the plug in any way or using an adaptor. If the plug does not fit, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, have an electrician replace the outlet.

Other Consumer Safety Information
This appliance is intended for household use only.
The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in, or tripping over, a longer cord. If a longer cord is necessary, an approved extension cord may be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of the blender. Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or accidentally tripped over.
The wattage rating of the blender is determined by an Underwriter’s Laboratory test and is based on available cutting blades and jar combinations that may not be provided with your unit, but are available as replacement parts. This is a measure of input wattage after 30 seconds of operation. The blender as provided may draw
significantly less power. Peak power is the measure of the motor wattage during the first seconds of operation. This is when a blender requires the most power to crush ice, frozen fruit, etc. This is a better measure of what a blender motor can deliver when power is needed most.
If the cutting blades lock and do not move, it will damage the motor. Do not use. Call the toll-free customer service number for information.
Do not place blender jar in the freezer filled with food or liquid. This will freeze and can result in damage to the cutting blades, jar, blender and possibly result in personal injury.
NOTICE: To prevent leakage of liquids from your blender jar, the round rubber gasket must be properly placed between jar and cutting assembly as shown in the diagram below.

How to Assemble
IMPORTANT: Your blender jar and cutting assembly are subject to wear during normal use. Always inspect jar for nicks, chips, or cracks. Always inspect cutting assembly for broken, cracked, or loose blades. If jar or cutting assembly is damaged, do not use. Call our toll-free customer service number to obtain replacement parts.
1. Make sure blender is unplugged.
Place blender base on clean, dry surface to keep foreign particles from being pulled up into motor during operation.
2. Fit gasket over blades as shown in
illustration on page 4. The gasket must lie flat. Set jar on top of gasket and screw on cutting assembly. Make sure the cutting assembly is firmly screwed onto the jar.
3. Set jar into place on blender base,
making sure it is securely seated. If not, gently rock the jar until seated.
NOTE: The cutting assembly must
slide between the base and dispensing lever to allow the lever to operate the dispenser.
OPTIONAL: When dispenser is not
needed replace dispenser with spout cap. Remove dispenser assembly (see “How to Clean” section). Insert
spout cap on cutting assembly. Turn spout cap clockwise to lock.
How to Operate
1. Plug cord into outlet.
2. Put ingredients in jar.
3. Process food or beverages. See the
“Blending Specific Foods” section for speeds and processing tips. NOTE: When blending thin liquids, do not fill above the 40-ounce/ 5 cup/1200 ml mark on blender jar.
4. To dispense thick liquids (such as
milk- shakes, smoothies, frozen drinks, etc.), press dispense button to turn blender ON and press cup against dispenser lever. Turn OFF after dispensing.
NOTE: Blender MUST be ON to dispense thick liquids.
When dispensing thin liquids, it may not be necessary to turn the blender ON to dispense the liquid.
5. ALWAYS turn blender off and wait
until blades have stopped rotating before removing jar.
6. To remove jar after blending is com-
plete, lift the jar straight up. If it is not easily removed, rock gently and lift. Do not twist.
NOTE: NEVER replace jar onto unit while motor is running.

Hints for General Use
NOTE: After extended blending, espe-
cially dry food, you may notice a black film inside the top of the blender base. This is a normal, FDA-approved, foodgrade lubricant used to ensure the long-life of your cutting assembly.
• Processing hot foods or liquids in the blender may cause hot liquid to spurt out when the cover is removed. Always remove the filler cap of the lid before blending hot foods or liquids. Keep hands and other exposed skin away from the cover opening to reduce risk of possible burns.
• To add foods when blender is operating, remove filler cap from container lid and add ingredients through the opening.
• Do not store food or liquids in the blender jar.
• For best performance, the minimum amount of liquid needed per recipe is one cup (8 ounces/250 ml). Add more liquid if food is not blending properly
• If blending action stops during blending or ingredients stick to sides of the jar, there may not be enough liquid in the jar to blend effectively.
• Do not try to mash potatoes, mix stiff dough, whip egg whites, grind raw meat, or extract juices from fruits and vegetables. The blender is not made to perform these tasks.
• If food being processed (solid food or ultra-thick beverages) will not dispense always pour from jar.
• Avoid bumping or dropping the blender.
Control Panels
Your blender may have 8 to 12 speeds. They all operate similarly. For blenders with 10 or more speeds, first select and push a LO or HI power button then push desired speed button. When using PULSE or IceBreaker the blender will operate only as long as button is pushed. The remaining speed buttons will run the blender until OFF is pushed.
NOTES:
Speed increases as the buttons are
pushed top to bottom.
• The dispenser button also serves as the highest speed at which the blender will operate. It is important to turn the blender on by pressing the dispense button when dispensing the contents of the jar.
