The appliance is designed to operate at normal room temperatures. Position it away from any heat source such as a boiler, ovens and heaters which will reduce the cooling efficiency of the freezer. It is also not advisable to install the appliance in unheated locations such as garages or outbuildings, as these will impair the operation of the freezer in winter.
The freezer requires space around the casing for efficient cooling and operation. The minimum clearances are shown in Figure 2.
The freezer must be installed on a firm flat and level surface for it to work quietly and efficiently.
Keep the condenser tubes clear away from rear wall or obstructions (Figure 1).
If the feet are not already fitted, screw them into the two front corners of the bottom of the casing. Fine adjustments can be made to level the appliance by turning the feet to raise or lower with the spanner supplied (Figure 3).
Switching on
Plug the freezer into a nearby power socket and switch on.
Temperature control
Switch the freezer on for the first time and use the key supplied, to turn the thermostat control to the ‘SF’ position on the dial (Figure 4). Leave the freezer running with the door closed for approximately 4 hours before storing food. (When the thermostat is set to the Superfreeze position (‘SF’ position). the freezer motor stays constantly on.) Only use the ‘SF’ position for fast freezing food, otherwise set the thermostat dial to a midway position.
It is advisable to place a freezer thermometer (not supplied) inside the freezer to check that the temperature is maintained at –18°C to –20°C.
Note: The setting on the thermostat control is dependent upon room temperature. If the temperature inside the freezer is above –18°C to –20°C, adjust the thermostat control towards MAX.

Notes on operation
During normal operation the following noises may be heard:
O Stifled murmur from compressor when it is working. O Soft gurgling from the coolant flowing through the cooling system. O Click from the thermostat switching on and off.
This appliance has the facility to hang the door on the opposite side.
Depending upon where you plan to locate the freezer, reversing the door may make access more convenient.
1. Remove the screw, hinge cover, hinge screws and hinge (Figure 5).
2. Lift the door off the lower hinge pin (Figure 6).
3. Unscrew the lower hinge bracket screws and
remove the lower hinge bracket (Figure 7).
4. Undo the lower hinge pin and replace it in the adjacent hole in the bracket. Tighten the pin (Figure 7).
5. Remove the lower hinge screws from the lefthand side of the cabinet and fit the packing strip (if fitted) and hinge bracket (Figure 7). Replace the original lower hinge screws in the right-hand fixing holes.
6. Remove the blanking caps which cover the lefthand fixing holes and fit them to the holes on the other side of the cabinet.
7. Support the door on the lower hinge pin. Take the hinge and locate the pin in the bush at the top of the door. Fit the hinge to the top of the cabinet with the three hinge screws. Fit the hinge cover and secure it with the screw.

Precautions
Frozen food storage
The freezer is capable of producing very cold temperatures which may cause injury if safety precautions are not observed:
O Do not attempt to freeze carbonated drinks such
as ‘fizzy pop’, mineral water, champagne etc. as the bottles may break when frozen. Drinks in PEP plastic bottles must not be frozen.
Food which has been purchased frozen should be kept in its original packaging. Maximum storage times and expiry dates are usually given on the food packaging.
IMPORTANT
Do not re-freeze food that has thawed or partially thawed.
When cooking food you must ensure it has thoroughly thawed, especially important regarding poultry and sea food.
O The freezer must only be used for the storing of
edible foodstuffs.
O Frozen food that has thawed should not be re-
frozen.
Do not overload the food baskets and always allow space between the packages of food. This ensures that cold air is free to circulate preventing the food packages from sticking together.
When using the Superfreeze (‘SF’) setting, do not freeze too much food at one time.
When removing ice cubes from the tray, it may help to hold the tray under running water for a few seconds in order to loosen the ice.
When freezing hot food allow it to cool before placing it in the freezer. Always store it away from food which is already frozen.
Almost all fresh products are suitable for freezing and storing in the freezer.
Label fresh products clearly so they are easily found when placed in the freezer baskets.
To deep freeze fresh food, place the fresh food in the Superfreeze (top) tray and turn the thermostat control to the ‘SF’ position and leave for 24 hours. Do not freeze more than 10kg/24h.)
When the food is frozen move it down to the lower baskets in the freezer and turn the thermostat control back to the previous preset position.
See the Table above for storage times for a selection of foods.

Defrosting
It is recommended to clean and wipe out the freezer after any spillage inside or outside the appliance.
Caution: Do not touch ice with bare skin to avoid ‘ice burns’.
It is wise to defrost the freezer if the ice build up exceeds 6mm, otherwise the efficiency of the freezer will reduce and the electricity consumption will increase.
Defrost the freezer when the stock of frozen contents is low.
Unplug the freezer and empty the frozen food into insulated bags or cardboard boxes covered with newspaper.
Slide forward to pull out the drainage tube in the bottom of the freezer (Figure 8).
Leave the door open and place bowls or any other suitable container under each shelf to catch the water from the melting ice.
Bowls of hot water may be placed in the freezer to speed up defrosting.
The plastic scraper can be used as an aid to defrosting.
Important
O Do not use electrical appliances such as
heaters or hair dryers to melt the ice.
O Do not use metal objects such as knives or
skewers to chip away the ice as these can damage the freezer walls and cooling pipes.
When all traces of ice have been removed from the interior of the freezer, use a teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda diluted in a pint of warm water to wipe the internal surfaces and shelving to remove food residues and odours.
Clean the door seals.
Leave to dry before reloading food.
Replace the plug in the mains socket and switch on.
Replace the food when the inside temperature is cold enough.
Only replace food which is still fully frozen. If any of the food has started to thaw throw it away.

Maintenance and cleaning
Important
The freezer must be turned off at the mains before maintaining or cleaning.
External cleaning
Keep the condensing tubes free from dust to maintain optimum efficiency. Use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner to remove the dust taking care not to damage the pipes and wiring. Also remove dust from the compressor motor housing which is situated at the rear back of the appliance casing.
The external casing can be cleaned with warm soapy water and protected by polish. Do not use scouring powders which can scratch the surface.
When not in use
If the appliance is to be emptied and turned off for a long period it is advisable to:
O Disconnect the unit from the mains supply. O Empty the freezer of food and allow any ice that
has formed to melt.
O Clean and dry the interior. O Leave the door open – do not close.
