Preface

This configuration guide describes LAN switching fundamentals and configuration. It descri bes how to isolate uses in the same VLAN, eliminate Layer 2 loops, divide VLANs, transmit customer network packets through the public network, and modify VLAN tags for packets.

Command conventions

Italic text represents arguments that you replace with actual values.
Braces enclose a set of required syntax choices separated by vertical bars, from which you select one.

Asterisk marked braces enclose a set of required syntax choices separated by vertical bars, from which you select at least one.
Asterisk marked square brackets enclose optional syntax choices separated by vertical bars, from which you select one choice, multiple choices, or none.
text represents commands and keywords that you enter literally as shown.
