Precautions
The following precautions must be adhered to at all times and must be considered in addition to any advised
precautions issued at the relevant worksite or work area
z Protection for wires, cables and interfaces
z Do not touch with hand or knock with other materials on the FPA
z Do not clean this module with thinner
z Do not pull in or out the cable when the power is still on.

z Do not point the module at high-intensity radiation source, like sun, carbon dioxide laser, electric welder and

Product Introduction
Cutting-edge uncooled FPA detector exported from French Sofradir, state-of-the-art Printed Circuit Board designed
by Wuhan Guide, IR118S module system is the most intellectual infrared imaging module which provides a new
platform for the development of infrared imaging system.
IR118S module is regarded as a “system” because it concentrates various external circuits for military infrared
system: pseudo-color display, RS232 control interface as well as optional RS485 and RS422, 16 bit parallel digital
signal output for re-development, keyboard port, DSP to DSP, optional cross indication, +6V~+12V DC output for
display equipment, optional LVDS interface, etc, all these system designing work could be realized on IR118S
module. This intellectual module simplifies and speeds up the design of any complicated infrared imaging system.
Working under the ambient temperature of -40℃ to +60℃ without other auxiliary heating measure, IR118S is the
unique infrared imaging module qualified for military standard.

Control Keyboard
Key Function Introduction
All the operations can be done through the keyboard:

IR118S Quick Start Guide
1. Put the IR118S at the observation place
2. Connect the IR118S to the keyboard via data transmission band.
3. Connect the IR118S to a monitor by video cable via the video output port.
4. Connect power cord to AC adaptor.
5. Connect IR118S to the power source via the AC adaptor
6. Keep pressing “Power” button for about 3 seconds until test pattern appears on the screen to turn on the
camera.
7. Take off the lens cover and aim at the object
8. Click “Video”, then choose option “open video”, selected digital video can be played. This software is also able
to record real-time video, play recorded video. The supported video file format is .irv.
9. After powering on, such test pattern will appear on the monitor and then disappear within 6 seconds. The
camera will do calibration automatically at about 10 seconds after power on.
10. Take off the lens cover and aim at the object
11. Menu operation: Press “Menu” button, menu list will appear on the bottom of the monitor. Modifications can be
done on the high-lighted item. Press menu to shift between items. The detailed menu operation will be
introduced in the next part.
12. Press button “Power” to turn off the camera.

Focus
With motorized lens:
When no menu displayed, press “+” to focus far, press “-” to focus near

When no menu is displayed, press button “C” to do calibration with shutter.
Image freeze and save
When no menu displayed, press button “R” to freeze current image, corresponding hint will appear on the screen.
Press “R” again will save the image. Press button “C” to exit to real-time infrared image.

Video Recording and Save
Before recording, firstly aim to the target and adjust the focus, so as to obtain a clear image. Hold “R” button for 3
seconds and IR118S will start to record the infrared video. At this time, two lines button instruction will be displayed
as below shown; the first is the button function, and the second is the current condition.
In the recording process, it will display the current recording time and remaining time.
When user wants to stop recording, press “R” button to stop. After video recording is stopped, two lines button
instruction will be displayed as below.
Press “R” button to save the video in the internal SD card. After saving, the thermal imager will return to the real time
infrared image status, and the picture information shown as below will be displayed for 2 seconds, in order to note
you the saving route.

Main menu operation
When no menu displayed on the screen, press button “M” to display main menu, and menu options will be displayed
on the screen, including Auto mode, Contrast, Brightness, Zoom and Polarity. Corresponding button function is
displayed above the menu options.
Press “M” button again to select Brightness, Contrast, Automatic Mode, Zoom, and Polarity in turn. The selected
menu item will shows in white on gray background. Press “+” or “-” buttons to adjust the parameters of selected item.
Press “R” will save each set menu items parameters.
Auto Mode selection:
Select menu item “Auto”, press “+” or “-” buttons to switch between “1/2”, and correspondingly to select the
brightness, contrast Auto/SemiAuto adjustment ways.

Auto Brightness, Contrast Auto offset and gain
SemiAuto Brightness, Contrast Auto offset, manual gain
In the above table, brightness is the expect value of the average of the actual value of the whole or part of the image;
contrast is the expect value of the actual contrast of the whole or part of the image; offset and gain are two
parameters related to brightness and contrast in the brightness and contrast calculation.
a. Automatic mode
In the automatic mode, user can adjust menu item “B” to get satisfying image brightness, and adjust menu item “C” to
get satisfying image contrast. System sets offset and gain in real time as per your input to obtain acceptable image
quality. Parameters of menu item “B” and “C” vales are shown in percentage.
b. Semi-automatic mode
In the semiautomatic condition, user can adjust menu item “B” to get satisfying image Brightness. System
automatically sets offset as per your input brightness value. User can adjust gain manually. Parameters of menu item
“B” and “C” values are shown in percentage.

Notice:
If user find the contrast is low when using the imager just like below.
User can adjust contrast according to the circumstance condition in order to make a satisfying image.

Electronic Zoom
The thermal imager can also conduct electronic zoom function. After selecting the electronic zoom menu “Z”, press
the “+”.“-” to switch the original image and 2 times zooming image.

Polarity
Under positive polarity mode, brighter part represents higher temperature. While under negative polarity mode,
brighter part represents lower temperature. Select menu polarity item “P”, press “+” or “-” buttons to switch between 2
polarity modes.

Extended menu operation
Constantly press the “M” button until the below image is displayed.
The extending menu bar will display the button function information, so the user can operate based on the
introduction.
1. Press “+” button to playback the saved infrared picture.
2. Press “-” button to playback the saved infrared video.
3. Press “R” button to enter the function setting menu.
4. Press “M” button to exit the extending menu.
Image review operation
In the extended function menu, press “+” button to playback the saved infrared picture. User can playback the saved

infrared image, and the pictures are shown as below.
The saved infrared pictures will be displayed as above picture shown (Maximum 6 pictures can be displayed on the
screen).The picture file name will be displayed on the right of the screen, and the button function instruction will be
displayed at the bottom of the screen. User can operate based on the button instruction.
Picture selection
Press “+”, “-” button to select the saved infrared pictures. The selected pictures will be displayed as white frame, and
there is a triangle mark displayed in front of the file name.
Picture deletion
User can conduct below two deleting operation”
a. Delete the selected picture
Shortly press “C” button to delete the selected picture, the screen will show as below.

pressing “R” button will delete the selected picture.
b. Delete all pictures
Hold “C” button for 3 seconds, user can delete all infrared pictures, and the bottom button instruction will be shown as
below.
User can operate as the bottom button instruction shown, pressing “C” button will cancel the deletion operation;
pressing “R” button will delete all pictures.
Open the picture
Press “R” button to open the selected infrared picture, and the picture will be fully displayed on the screen and the file
name will be displayed on the top-left corner as below shown.
User can conduct 4 kinds of operation based on the button instruction on the screen:

a. Press “+” or “-“button to change the saved infrared pictures.
b. Press “C” button to delete the current picture, below hint will display:

c. Press “R” button will close the current infrared picture and return to the pictures playback screen.
d. Press “M” button will open setting function for the current infrared picture shown as below.
User can set the auto mode, brightness, contrast and polarity based on the button instruction on the screen.
Exit the picture playback screen
Press “M” button will exit the picture playback screen
Video Replay Operation
In the extended function menu, press “-” button to playback the saved infrared video. The videos are shown as below.

The saved infrared video will be displayed as above picture shown (Maximum 6 videos can be displayed on the
screen).The video file name will be displayed on the right of the screen, and the button function instruction will be
displayed at the bottom of the screen. User can operate based on the button instruction.
Video selection
Press “+”, “-” button to select the saved infrared videos. The selected videos will be displayed as white frame, and
there is a triangle mark displayed in front of the file name.
Video deletion
User can conduct below two deleting operation”
a. Delete the selected picture
User can operate as the bottom button instruction shown, pressing “C” button will cancel the deletion operation;
pressing “R” button will delete the selected picture.

Open the video
Press “R” button to open the selected infrared video, and the video will be fully displayed on the screen and the file
name will be displayed on the left-corner as below shown. There are two lines instruction: the first line is the button
function introduction; the second line is the current condition.

In the process of video playback, it will display the video time.
If user wants to stop the playback, user can press “R” button to exit.
Set menu operation
In the extended function menu, Press “R” button to enter the function setting (cursor, language and note) menu as
below picture shown. And the button instruction will be displayed to state the buttons function on the screen, and user
can operate as the button instruction stated.
Press “M” button to select each menu item and exit the menu, then press “+”, “-” button to adjust the selected item
parameters. Press “R” button to save each item parameters.
Cursor setting and verifying
User can select the proper cursor that provided by the system and over displayed on the infrared image; user can
also calibrate the cursor up and down, left and right.

Select the “Cursor” item, then press “+” or “-“button to switch the cursor display mode. When cursor=0, there will be
no cursor on the screen; when cursor=1~3, the cursors will display on the screen respectively as below:
Select “X” or “Y” menu item, then press “+” or “-” button to left, right, upward and downward move the cursor to verify.
Language setting
Select “Lang.” menu item, then press “+” or “-” button to switch the thermal imager system language between
Chinese/English.
Button instruction setting
Select “Note.” menu item, press “+” or “-” button to choose whether the button instruction shall be displayed or not.

Transmit the picture and video from the thermal imager to PC
The method of transmitting the picture and video from the thermal imager to PC is the same as the digital camera
picture transmitting.
Connect the thermal imager and PC via the USB cable; the PC can identify the removable storage device.
Double-click the “GUIDE_IR” disc mark to open the storage device; there are two folders in the storage device,
“PICTURE” and “VIDEO”, and these two folders are respectively stored infrared pictures and videos. User can
conduct copy, cut, and delete and etc operations as the normal files. After operation, please eject the removable
storage device “GUIDE_IR” and then pull out the USB cable plug.
