followed, there is a risk of personal injury.
2. General description
The IO 112 is a measuring module and a 1-channel
protection unit for use in connection with the MP 204
motor protection unit. The module can be used for
protection of pump against other factors than the
electrical conditions, for instance dry-running. It can
also be used as a stand-alone protection module.
The IO 112 interface has
• three inputs for measured values
• one potentiometer for setting of limits
• indicator lights indicating the
- measured value of the input
- value of the limit set
- alarm source
- pump status.

5. Storage
IO 112 may be stored for maximum two years.
See date on the box label.
6. Installation
Before installation, check th at the
• IO module is the one ordered.
• IO 112 is suitable for the supply voltage and frequency available at the installation site.
• IO 112 has not been damaged during transportation.
Before installing the IO 112, make sure
that the electricity supply has been
switched off and that it cannot be accidentally switched on.
The installation must be carried out by authorized
personnel in accordance with local regulations.
All safety regulations must be observed on the installation site.
6.1 Location
IO 112 is only for indoor installation.
IO 112 must not be installed in potentially
explosive environments. Ex-approved
pumps may, however, be installed in an
explosive environment.
Enclosure class
IO 112 is enclosure class IP 20 and designed
according to overvoltage and measurement category
II. In order to reduce the external pollution level to
maximum 2, the IO 112 must be installed in a pro-
TM03 5585 3906
tecting environment with minimum IPX4 enclosure
according to IEC 60529. The cabinet must be of a
flame-retardant material.
Ambient temperature
–25°C to +65°C.
IO 112 must not be exposed to direct sunlight.
Installation height
Maximum 2000 m above sea level.
Relative air humidity
Maximum 95%.

6.2 Mounting
IO 1
12
IO 112 is prepared for mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail
(EN 50 022).
Fit the IO 112 module by hooking the top on the DIN
rail and clicking the bottom onto the rail.

Fig. 3 Mounting on DIN rail
The IO 112 module can be removed by pushing it
upwards and free of the DIN rail.
The installation must incorporate a circuit
breaker in order to switch off the phase
voltage on the terminals of pos. 10. See
fig. 1. It must be close to the IO 112
module and easily accessible for the
operator. It must be marked as circuit
breaker for IO 112.
The circuit breaker must be according to
IEC 60947-1 and IEC 60947-3.
6.3 Electrical connection
All terminals are rated for maximum 8 A. The terminals 8, 9, 10 and 12 are for wire size AWG 28~12;
terminal 13 is for AWG 28~16.
Voltage rating of the individual terminals, see
14. Electrical data.
Note: If the PT function is not used, terminals P1
and P2 must be connected by a jumper. See fig. 4.
6.3.1 EMC-correct installation
It is especially important to ensure an EMC-correct
installation of pumps with frequency converter.
The following rules must be observed:
• Connect the cable screen to earth.
• Do not twist screen ends, as this will destroy th e
screen effect at high frequencies. Use cable
clamps as shown in fig. 5.
• It is important to ensure a good electric contact
from the mounting plate through the mounting
screws to the metal cabinet of the frequency converter.
• Use toothed washers and a galvanically conducting mounting plate.

Fig. 4 Jumper between P1 and P2
The insulation between the cabinet in
which the module is fitted and the input
terminals for sensors must have a dialectic strength of 2210 VAC, or the cabinet
must be connected to earth.
The terminals T1 and T2 (pos. 8) may be
connected to phase voltage. See fig. 1.
External controllers that are connected to
the IO 112 module via the RS485 connection must be according to IEC 60950-1
(USA: UL 60950-1).

7.1.1 Selection of operational input
DIP switches 1 and 2 are used for choosing between
bus configuration, analog input, temperature sensor
input and counter input.
Bus configuration
If switches 1 and 2 are set to bus configuration,
IO 112 is operated from for instance Modular Controls via GENIbus.
Analog input
If switches 1 and 2 are set to analog input (AI),
IO 112 is operated by means of the reset button and
rotary potentiometer of the module. See fig. 1.
The analog input is used for instance for the connection of a level sensor.
Temperature sensor input
If switches 1 and 2 are set to temperature sensor
input (PT), IO 112 is operated by means of the reset
button and rotary potentiometer of the module. See
fig. 1.
The temperature sensor is for instance used for
measurement of the liquid temperature or the motor
temperature.
Counter input
If switches 1 and 2 are set to counter input (CNT),
IO 112 is operated by means of the reset button and
rotary potentiometer of the module. See fig. 1.
By means of the counter function and a water meter
the pump can be set to pump for instance 2 m³ water
and then stop.

7.1.2 Analog input (falling/rising)
With DIP switch 3 it is possible to set whether an
alarm is to be given when the value from the analog
sensor rises above or falls below the limit set.
If "rising" has been selected, the indicator lights will
illuminate from the bottom and upwards as the value
rises.
If "falling" has been selected, the indicator lights will
illuminate from the top and downwards as the value
falls.

7.2 Potentiometer
The potentiometer is used for setting the following
limits:
Analog input and temperature sensor input
• Alarm limit
•Limit 1
•Limit 2.
Counter input
• Alarm limit.
Note: Limits 1 and 2 are not possible for the counter
input.

When the input (AI, PT or CNT) has been selected,
the indicator light of the selected input will flash.
5 seconds after the limit has been set with the potentiometer, the setting is saved, and the indicator light
will be off. When setting the limits with the potentiometer it is only possible to set the limit to one of the
six specified values.

9. Start-up
IO 112
A
When the IO 112 has been installed as described in
6. Installation, start-up must be carried out by an
authorized person.
1. Switch on the electricity supply to the IO 112
before starting the pump.
2. IO 112 now carries out a self-test. All indicator
lights on the front panel will be on for a few seconds. If IO 112 does not detect any fault, all indicator lights will go out. If a fault is detected, the
indicator lights for the actual fault will illuminate.
3. Check that there are no warnings or alarms
before switching on the pump.
10. Indication
On the front of IO 112, a column of six indicator
lights show the measured value. Depending on
whether the measured value is set to count up or
down, the indicator lights will illuminate from the bottom or the top.

10.1 Alarm resetting
Alarms can be reset by means of terminals R1 and
R2 (pos. 9).
Manual resetting
Alarms can be reset by short-circuiting R1 and R2.
The reset button (pos. 1) also short-circuits R1 and
R2.

Automatic resetting
If a permanent short-circuit is made between R1 and
R2, alarms are automatically reset when the alarm
cause has disappeared.
11. Maintenance
IO 112 requires no maintenance. IO 112 must only
be cleaned with a dust-free cloth.
12. Service
IO 112 cannot be serviced. If the module is faulty, it
must be replaced.
