3.4 Functional description
3.4.1 Physical
Via an interior distribution system, 2 (desaliQ:MA9) or 4 (desaliQ:MA13) resin bags filled with mixed-bed resin are steadily flown through from bottom to top.
The fully demineralised water, the so-called demi water, is directed to the tank outlet via the collection element located at the tank lid.
3.4.2 Chemical
The mixed-bed resins consist to one part of a highly acid cation exchanger resin and to the other part of a highly alkaline anion exchanger resin. In the mixed-bed cartridges, the two components are completely mixed.
The cation exchanger resin removes all positively charged ions, the so-called cations, from the raw water. All cations contained in the raw water such as calcium, magnesium or sodium are exchanged for H+ ions.
The anion exchanger resin is used in full demineralisation to filter off negatively charged ions, the so-called anions. All anions such as nitrate, phosphate, sulphate, chloride and hydrogen carbonate contained in the raw water are exchanged for OH- ions.
Full demineralisation removes almost all undesired components from the inlet water. Thanks to the highly alkaline anion exchanger resin, silicic acid and carbon dioxide are also filtered off. The H+ and OH- ions generated during the exchange process combine to H2O. The result of the full demineralisation principle is pure water.
3.4.3 Demineralisation of raw water
The main application of the desaliQ mixed-bed cartridge is the full demineralisation of raw water for easy and quick filling and make-up water feed of heating systems. The raw water is directed to the inlet of the mixed-bed cartridge via an optional system separator and a fine filter.

CAUTION: Danger due to mechanical energy! System components may be subject to overpressure.
Danger of injury and damage to property due to escaping water and unexpected movement of system components.
Fit a suitable pressure reducing device into the pressurised line upstream of the
mixed-bed cartridge.
Fit an approved safety valve for the specified pressure range into the pressurised
line upstream of the mixed-bed cartridge.
Make sure that the opening pressure set on the safety valve does not exceed the
maximum permissible operating pressure stated on the type designation plate.
NOTE: The installation site must have a floor drain. Floor drains leading to a lifting system do not work in case of a power failure.
Possible flooding of the rooms if no floor drain is provided.

4.3 Installing the product
4.3.1 Installation with filling device
1. Set the mixed-bed cartridge down in an upright position in a stable location.
Note: Risk of damage to the product.
Screwing the double nipple in too far may result in damage to the product.
Make sure that the double nipple does not rotate when the hoses
are connected. If necessary, secure the double nipple so that it does not rotate.
2. Connect the raw water hose to the raw water connection of the mixed-bed cartridge and to the raw water connection of the filling device.
3. Connect the pure water hose to the pure water connection of the mixed-bed cartridge and to the pure water connection of the filling device.
4.3.2 Installation without filling device
NOTE: Danger of contaminated drinking water if the system separator is missing.
The mixed-bed cartridges are not intrinsically safe. If the mixed-bed cartridges are installed without a filling device and there is no system separator downstream of the mains water connection, then there is the risk of the drinking water becoming contaminated.
Install a system separator upstream of the mixed-bed cartridge.
1. Set the mixed-bed cartridge down in an upright position in a stable location
Note: Risk of damage to the product.
Screwing the double nipple in too far may result in damage to the product.
Make sure that the double nipple does not rotate when the hoses
are connected. If necessary, secure the double nipple so that it does not rotate.
2. Connect the raw water hose to the raw water connection of the mixed-bed cartridge and to the raw water connection of the installation.
3. Connect the pure water hose to the pure water connection of the mixed-bed cartridge and to the pure water connection of the installation.

5 Start-up
5.1 Preparations
Make sure that the resin bag has been fitted correctly: Seam parallel with the rim
of the container, tear-off sticker facing upwards.
5.2 How to start up the product
1. Slowly increase the water supply.
2. Press the green lever to bleed the mixed-bed cartridge.
3. Leave all valves open.
4. Switch on the conductivity meter.
» 000 should appear on the display.
5. Replace the resin as soon as the desired limit value is shown on the display.
(We recommend a max. of 50 µS/cm)
The conductivity meter switches off automatically after approx. 10 minutes.

6 Operation
6.1 Querying the system status
Inspect the mixed-bed cartridge on a regular basis during operation.
Make sure that all hoses are securely connected.
Check the mixed-bed cartridge and the connections for leaks.
Check if the lid is seated securely.
Check the conductivity.
6.2 Replacing the resin bag
6.2.1 Remove the used resin bag
1. Shut off the water supply and water drain.
2. Press the green lever until the mixed-bed cartridge is unpressurised.
3. Remove the supply hose.
4. Open the shut-off valve at the raw water connection.
5. Allow the mixed-bed cartridge to run until empty.
6. Secure the mixed-bed cartridge in position using its legs.
7. Depress the lid slightly and turn it 1/8 in an anti-clockwise direction to remove it.
8. Leave the shut-off valve at the raw water connection open.
9. Reach into the container and pull out the used resin bag by hand.
10. Remove the tear-off sticker on the resin bag by tearing it along the perforation.
» In this way you can safely identify a depleted resin bag thus preventing mix-ups.
11. Dispose of the resin bag in compliance with local regulations.
12. Remove contamination from the sieve elements in the base and in the lid.
6.2.2 Fitting the new resin bag
1. Fit the new resin bag.
2. Check that it is positioned correctly: Seam parallel with the rim of the container,
tear-off sticker facing upwards.
Page 17
Operation
17 | 32
If the resin bag is incorrectly positioned, raw water will flow past the resin bag. As a result, the system will not be fully utilised and the conductivity will increase.
3. Reattach the lid.
4. Secure the mixed-bed cartridge in position using its legs.
5. Depress the lid slightly and turn it 1/8 in a clockwise direction.
» The system is ready for operation.
6.3 Transportation and storage between assignments
When transporting and storing the mixed-bed cartridges between assignments, ensure they are:
Depressurised
Drained
Between assignments, protect the mixed-bed cartridge against:
High levels of heat
Frost
Direct sunlight
Chemicals, dyes, solvents and their vapours
Mechanical damage
