Checking & Bleeding Hydraulic Oil
Hydraulic oil may need to be added periodically to the ram after prolonged use or if it leaks. We recommend ISO 32 or 46 grade hydraulic oil.
Sometimes air can get trapped in the hydraulic chamber while adding oil, keeping it from functioning properly. This can be corrected by bleeding the hydraulic oil.
To check and add hydraulic oil:
1.
Loosen hydraulic release valve and wait for
lower die to fully lower (see Figure 11).
Release Valve
— If oil level is visible in fill reservoir, do
not add oil. Replace plug and proceed to Step 5.
If oil level is not visible in fill reservoir, pro-
ceed to Step 4.
Add hydraulic oil to fill reservoir until level
4.
reaches the plug hole then re-install oil plug.
5.
Tighten hydraulic release valve and pump
brake handle 3–5 times to test that hydraulics function properly.
If hydraulics do not raise ram, bleed
hydraulic system before returning to normal operation.
To bleed hydraulic oil:
Remove oil plug (see Figure 12).
1.
2.
Pump brake handle until lower die reaches
highest position.

2. Remove oil plug (see Figure 12).

wrench.
Loosen hydraulic release valve and wait for
3. lower die to fully lower (see Figure 11).
4.
Repeat Steps 23 at least three times to
force hydraulic oil through system.
Check hydraulic oil level.
5.
— If oil level is visible in fill reservoir, there
is no need to add oil. Install plug and proceed to Step 7.
