Introduction
The T10501 Wood Lathe Center Kit provides a
variety of centers for the specific weight, size, and
wood type of the workpiece to be turned.
This 9-piece kit is designed for a lathe with a 1"
x 8 TPI (RH) spindle and a tailstock that accepts
MT#1 or MT#2 tooling.
The included mounting adapter accepts the six
accompanying
and multi-spur drive centers. The MT#1 and MT#2
live centers offer rigidity while providing ample
tool clearance. Two wrenches are provided for
tightening and loosening the mounting adapter
and drive centers to the spindle.

Assembly
This 9-piece center kit is designed for quick and
easy installation.
Select the spur-drive center according to workpiece size, wood type, and moisture content. Spur
drive centers are best for soft or wet wood, while
shorter toothed multi-spur drive centers are ideal
for dry or hardwood.

to be turned. Thread the
⁄8" male end of
drive center into female end of the mounting
adapter.
5. Place wrenches in both mounting adapter
and drive center, as shown in Figure 2. While
holding mounting adapter, firmly tighten drive
center.
MT#1 and MT#2 live centers install into tailstock
quill and freely rotate with workpiece.
To install a live center:
1. Move the tailstock to a safe working distance
from the head and tool rest.
2. Loosen quill lock lever, then rotate quill
handwheel clockwise until quill extends out
from tailstock about 1", as shown in Figure 3.

To remove center and adapter from spindle:
1. DISCONNECT LATHE FROM POWER!
2. Insert wrenches into hole on the mounting
adapter and drive center. While firmly holding
wrench, loosen the drive center by rotating it
counterclockwise.
3. Remove drive center by hand.
3. Make sure live center and inside of quill are
free of debris and oily substances that could
interfere with proper mating.
4. Insert tapered end of live center into quill with
a quick, firm motion.
5. Make sure center is secure by attempting to
pull it out by hand—a properly installed center will not pull out by hand.
6. Rotate quill handwheel to draw quill back into
tailstock as far as possible without forcing
center to release.
Note: For greatest workpiece support, retract
quill as close to tailstock as possible without
disengaging live center.
7. Tighten quill lock lever to hold quill and center
in place.
To remove a live center:
4. While holding the spindle in place, use one
of the wrenches to remove mounting adapter
from the spindle.
-2-
1. While holding onto live center, retract quill
into tailstock with handwheel until center
