The key to the Executive’s high performance actually begins with the woofer—the much-praised 6" woofer from
the Callisto. It has remarkably low distortion from the bass to the very high voice range. Its bass is further
extended by an unusually large aerodynamic port on top of its wood and Q-Stone™ cast marble enclosure. The
method for blending this woofer to the midrange driver required many years of research. The result is a full and
robust tone balance normally available from a large woofer. A pair of Executives will shake a house.

However, the demands placed on the midrange driver were severe, as it had to go very low to blend with this
woofer, and at the same time, go very high to meld imperceptibly with the tweeter. The one selected is found
also in the other Pico models, as its ultra-light, rigid cone goes very high without break-up distortion, and its
unique suspension provides the stroke to go very low, all controlled by a massive magnet. Its surrounding
Q-Stone™ enclosure, although quite small, contains a 28-inch acoustic labyrinth, terminated by a ‘resistive
vent.’ Derived from our flagship Continuum 3, this arrangement immediately absorbs all interior sounds, to
produce the greatest clarity. The outside of the midrange’s enclosure is a modified ellipse, shaped to allow
uncompromised expansion of sound into the room, to all listening angles, at all frequencies—without reflections.

The tweeter is a very special design. A patented arrangement of six miniature neodymium magnets permits
many sound-absorbing passages behind the tweeter’s dome, all emptying into one large alloy rear chamber
behind, where the rear waves are absorbed. The fabric of the dome is polymer-treated to absorb all resonances,
and the highs are crystal clear.

To realize the full potential of these three remarkable drivers, our Balanced-Phase™ ‘first-order’ crossover
blends them together seamlessly, making them truly move as one unit, coherent in time. This circuit also lets
any amplifier deliver its power with the least distortion.

I imagined the Executive would see most use placed directly on the floor. However, it’s so small that it may
be placed onto a side table, a bureau, or atop speaker stands. For the best sound from any of these placements
—for listeners either seated or standing—the midrange and tweeter enclosures adjust back and forth to
direct the soundfield where it’s needed. I named this innovative adjustability Soundfield Convergence™.

While the Pico Executive was specifically designed to play at a whisper in the smallest of rooms, another
design goal was more than met: Given enough power, the Executive plays as loud as life, on any music, on
any soundtrack, in the largest rooms. It’s my first design for which I can truly claim that the sound belies the size.
