Section 2 Assembly Instructions & Set-Up
NOTE: While using the following text to install your
Agitator, you may need to refer back to the parts section of this manual for more details and for positive
identification of related items not mentioned in these
instructions.
Refer to Figure 2-1:
If your drill is equipped with a Small Grass Seeder attachment, a majority of the drive system is already in
place. If your drill is not equipped with a Small Grass
Seeder one of the following drive bundles must be or
dered with any agitator assembly:
197-115A30’ Small Grass Seeds
& Agitator Drive Assembly
197-116A24’ Small Grass Seeds
& Agitator Drive Assembly
-
Drive Installation
If your drill does not have 197-115A or 197-116A refer to the following:
Install the two 1" bore bearings (#1) on the end of the box
frame and frame drive plate using the flangettes (#2) and
5/16"-18 x 1" round head square neck bolts (#3) and
hardware as shown.
Slide the 1" jackshaft (#4) thru the bearing mounted on
the end of the box frame. Slip the shaft through the 19
tooth sprocket (#5) and the 22 tooth sprocket (#6). Then
slip it through the bearing attached to the frame drive
plate.
Attach the drive chain (#7) from the gearbox to the 1"
jackshaft around the 22 tooth sprocket (#6). Align and
tighten the chain and idler sprockets.
If your drill is assembled with 197-115A or 197-116A
Small Grass Seeders and Agitator Drive assembly
refer to the following:
Remove the 1" jackshaft thru the box frame end panel.
Attach the 19 tooth sprocket (#5) to the jackshaft and
slide the jack shaft back thru the box frame end panel.
Final Drive Connection
Route the drive chain (#9) back through the cutout in the
box, around the agitator sprocket (#8) and back to the 19
tooth sprocket (#5) as shown. After connecting the
chain, check alignment of the sprockets. Move the agita
tor sprocket (#8) if needed and tighten the two set
screws on the sprocket. Position and adjust the idler
sprockets as shown.
Once all chains are aligned, tighten all the hardware.

Agitator Paddle Installation
Refer to Figure 2-4: Slip one paddle (#1) over the hex
shaft directly above a feeder cup. Slip a 1/4"-20 x 2"long
hex flange bolt (#2) through the paddle and secure with
a 1/4" hex flange lock nut (#3). Before tightening a paddle or group of paddles, carefully rotate the drive system
to make sure paddles do not hit the tray dividers.
After checking for interference, torque the paddle bolts to
9 ft. lbs. (108 in lbs.)
Install the next paddle over the next feeder cup. Index
this paddle 1/6th of a turn by sliding it onto the next set of

Check for plugging in metering cup.
Check to see if seed tubes are plugged.
Reduce ground speed.
Check for lumps or trash in the material. Screen these out if needed.
Check all drive chains, sprockets, keys and pins.
The agitator will not guarantee perfect seeding of trashy, wet or sticky material.
Check tire pressure. Proper inflation is listed in the “Tire Inflation Chart", Section
2, page 4.
Check gauge wheel size. Proper size is 11L x 15".
Some sections of the box have more metering cups causing that section to run out
