− Do not fit the cuff on persons, who have undergone a mastectomy.
− Keep in mind that the restriction of circulation through the inflation of the cuff may temporarily cause other measurement devices connected to the same body part to malfunction.
− Avoid performing frequent measurements and prolonged pressure in the cuff to prevent injury.
− The following illnesses or symptoms may result in incorrect measurements or affect the measurement accuracy of the blood pressure monitor:
• Diseases of the cardiovascular system,
• very low blood pressure,
• diabetes,
• circulatory disorder and cardiac arrhythmia,
• shivering,
• shaking.

Evaluating the measurements
Evaluating the measurements
About blood pressure
Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of arteries. It is typically measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg).
Systolic blood pressure is the maximum force exerted against blood vessel walls each time the heart beats. Diastolic blood pressure is the force exerted on blood vessels when the heart is resting between beats.
An individual’s blood pressure frequently changes throughout the course of a day. Excitement and tension can cause blood pressure to rise, while drinking alcohol and bathing can lower blood pressure. Certain hormones like adrenaline (which your body releases under stress) can cause blood vessels to constrict, leading to a rise in blood pressure.
If the blood pressure measuring numbers become too high, it means the heart is working harder than it should.
Cardiac arrhythmia
− If the blood pressure monitor detects an irregular heart rhythm two or more times during the measuring process, the arrhythmia indicator
22
will
show on the display
1
.
− Irregular heart rhythm is defined as a heart rhythm that is either 25 % slower or faster than the average heart rhythm.
Page 24
