However, GRAUPNER has no control over whether you observe the instructions for the installation and opera tion of the model or th e use and maintenanc e of the associated c omponents. For th is reason GRAUPNER assumes no liability for losses, damage, or costs, which are incurred due to the incorrect use of our products or due to improper behavi our on the part of the user, or which are connected with such operation i n any way. Unles s otherwise prescribed b y binding law, the obligation of G RAUPNER to pay compensation for any reason whatsoever (including personal injury, death, damage to buildings, damage due to loss of business or turnover, interruption of business, or other direct or ind irect consequent damage) stemming from the operation of the model is excluded. The total liability in all cas es and und er all circum stances is limited to the amount of money that you actuall y paid for this model.
This model is started up and operated at the sole and exclusive risk of th e operator. To avoid injuring people and damaging property, it is essential to be careful and thoughtful when operating your model.
Before operating the model for the first time, check whether the operation of model ships of this kind is covered by your private liability insurance. If necessary, purchase a special RC model liability insurance policy. These safety notes must be retained and provided to the buyer if sold to another person.
The following items must be observed:
The model is not suitable for children under 14 years old.
Because of the high sp eed, never operat e the m odel when pe ople or an imals are in the water, bec ause
this represents a great danger of injury to them.
Do not operate your model in nature preserves, landscape protection areas, or water conservation districts. Find out from your local government which waters are approved for model shipbuilders.
Never operate the model in salt water.
Never operate the m odel in adverse weather conditions, such as rain, thunderstorm , strong wind, or in
high waves or strong currents, et cetera.
Before you fly the model, c heck that the r adio con trol s ystem is working reli abl y, and that a ll connec tions are safe and secure.

Do not exceed the recommended operating voltage. A higher voltage can lead to overheating of the motor or speed controller o r cause electrical lines to melt. This can c ause the model to be dest royed or catch fire.
Make sure all drive com ponents can move freel y. This applies especially during operations, because leaves and other things c an get caught in the drive m echanism. In such a case, the motor, the s peed controller, or the rudder servo can be destroyed by an overload.
Never leave the battery to charge unattended. Observe the instructions for the charger and battery.
When using a car charger, always charge the battery outside the car.
Ensure that the servos are not mechanically obstructed at any point in their travel.
The batteries and r echargeabl e batteries ma y not be shor t-circ uited or be expose d to direc t contact with
water.
Let the motor and the speed controller cool off after each trip. Do not touch the hot parts.
Do not subject the model to intense humidity, heat, cold, vibrations, or dirt.
When storing the model, rem ove the rechargeable batt eries / batteries and store t hem so that they can
not be short-circuited.
The drive battery must always be removed when transporting the model.
Protect the model, batteries, and RC components against damage and slipping during transport.
Always make sure that the sheet m etal contacts bet ween the RC box and the driv e motor are insulated;
never let them come into electrical contact.
When the model begins to slow down, the drive batt ery is nearly empty. Sa il immediately to shore and stop operating the model. Before a new trip, the battery must be recharged.
If you operate the model in m oving water (s uc h as a river) be aware that the model can drift away if there is a malfunction or if the battery runs down.
When trying to retrieve the model, never put yourself or others in danger.
Take particular care to ensur e that the model is watertigh t. A model boat can sink if enough water gets
in. Check the model before each trip to see whether there is any damage and whether water can penetrate through the drive and rudder shafts . In particular, check the rubber seals on the m odel. The RC box should also b e closed, to e nsure that no water can splash in from above. Water dam age is not covered by warranty!
Secure the cover by inserting the splint through the hole in the mount.
Care and maintenance
Clean the model carefull y after each use. Immediately remove any water t hat has penetrated using a dishtowel or something similar. Always leave the cover open for a longer period of time to allow the residual moisture to dry out.
Clean the model and th e RC components us ing suita ble clean ing agents onl y. Ask your model sh op for information.
Lubricate the shaft regularl y. Yo ur r etai ler c an pro vi de you with information about suitable t ypes of water- neutral grease.
If the model is not to be oper ated for a c o nsider able t im e, all the m oving parts ( shaf t, et ceter a). m us t be disassembled, cleaned, and re-lubricated . All recharg eable and other bat teries shou ld also be removed from the model and transmitter and stored separately.

Important safety and operating information for the RC system
Always switch the transmitter on first; then switch on the receiver (model)!
Always switch the receiver off first; th en switch off the transmitter!
Protect all equipment ag ains t dust, dirt, hum idit y, vibrat ions, and o ther f oreign o bjec ts. Never ex pose t he
equipment to excessive heat or cold.
Avoid impacts and pressure. Always check the equipment for damage to housings and cables.
Never pull on cables to disconnect them.
Avoid incorrect polar ity and short-c ircuits of a ll k inds a s well as excess voltage in the pow er suppl y. The
devices are not protected against these hazards.
Use only components specified and approved by GRAUPNER.
GRAUPNER recommends using only dry cell batteries for the transmitter power supply. Use
rechargeable batteries in this area at your own risk!
Never use batteries with different energy states (meaning full in combination with empty batteries) or different types or manufacturers.
Dry cell batteries for the power supply ma y never be recharged. Onl y rechargeab le batteries can be r e- charged.
The batteries mus t be adequately charged, and the range of the radio control system must have been checked. In case of doubt and for the sake of safety, the transmitter and receiver batteries should b e replaced if the state of the batteries is unknown.
During operations, the transmitter aerial must be securely installed and completely extended.
Run the receiver aer ial onl y as des igned for t he mode l. It sho uld be as far as possible away fr om po wer
cables.
If water has penetrated the RC components, lay them out to dry and send them to the appropriate GRAUPNER service unit to be checked (see list of responsible service centres at the end of the instructions).

Trimming the model
To achieve optimal runnin g behaviour for the model, the height and angle of the outboard motors can be adjusted to a certain degree. T he rudder deflec tion of the outboard s hould not ex ceed 5 to 6°. In this regard, the use of a computer RC s ystem is particularl y practical and simple. Af ter EACH trip, remove s plash water from the outboard motor to keep it from oxidising.
Maiden voyage
Charge the batteries, an d test the functions of the model. Secur e the cover with tape, so that it can not fall down and so that no water can get into the model. Now you can start the maiden voyage.
During the maiden voyage, start slowly; first get familiar with the sailing behaviour. Test the steering behaviour, stopping distance, and range. If the model begins to "hop" when run ning fast, change the positio n of the drive mechanism until the model runs smoothly again, or move the batteries forward.
Have fun running your model Rhode Island.
