Preface

About This Manual

This Instruction Manual provides upgrade information related to the Grass
Valley Group Kalypso Video Production Center. The Kalypso product line
is subject to Safety and Regulatory Compliance described in the standard
Kalypso user documentation set, described below. This manual is designed
for technical personnel responsible for installing and maintaining Kalypso
systems.

Documentation Set

The standard Kalypso user documentation set consists of a:

The User Manual contains background information about the Kalypso
Video Production Center, and describes operating procedures. This manual
can be used while learning about Kalypso, and for enhancing your basic
knowledge of the system.

The Installation and Service Manual contains information about installing,
configuring, and maintaining the system.

The Release Notes contain information about new features and system
enhancements for a specific software version, and also includes software
installation procedures. Always check the release notes for your current
system software before operating your system.

Upgrading a Model 4000 Remote Aux Panel to a Kalypso 24-Crosspoint Remote Aux Panel

Remote Aux panels control Kalypso Video Production Center local aux
buses from remote locations. Three Kalypso 24-Crosspoint Remote Aux
panels (1 Rack Unit (RU), 2 RU, and 3 RU) are available for 4-M/E and
2-M/E systems. Each panel provides control of 48 external sources (24
unshifted and 24 shifted), and up to thirty-two panels can be daisy-chained
on a single serial control port on either the 4-M/E or 2-M/E electronics
frame. Model 4000 Remote Aux panels can be upgraded to Kalypso
24-Crosspoint Remote Aux panel capability for use in a Kalypso environ­ment.

This document provides instructions for upgrading Model 4000 Remote
Aux panels to Kalypso 24-Crosspoint Remote Aux panel functionality. The
upgrade consists of replacing the Model 4000 CPU Aux Control EPROM
with the Kalypso CPU Aux Control EPROM.

This document does not cover installation, configuration, or operating
instructions for the Model 4000 Remote Aux panel or Kalypso 24-Cross­point Remote Aux panel. For information about the Model 4000 Remote

Upgrade Kit

The Upgrade Kit contains the items listed in Table 1. A 3/16 inch and 5/16
inch nutdriver and a #10 Torx screwdriver are required for completing the
upgrade.

Upgrade Procedure

Disconnect the DC power, communications, and Joystick Override
cables from the rear of the Model 4000 Remote Aux panel (Figure 1) and
place the panel face down.

Using a 5/16 inch nutdriver, remove the nuts and screws holding the
back plate onto the panel.

Using a #10 Torx screwdriver, remove the center screw on the back
plate.

Cable locations are the same on the 1 RU, 2 RU, and 3 RU panels. Screw loca­tions differ on the panels, but the process for removing and replacing them
is identical.

Using a 3/16 inch nutdriver, remove the jack screws on either side of
the Joystick Override connector and remove the back plate.

Locate the Model 4000

CPU Aux Control EPROM (position U2) on the

Model 4000 CPU Aux Control Board (Figure 2).

Using the extractor tool and proceeding with anti-static precautions,
carefully pry the Model 4000 CPU Aux Control EPROM from the
carrier by placing the tool under the EPROM and lifting it up and out
of the carrier.

Orient the replacement CPU Aux Control EPROM by aligning its
notched edge with the notched edge on the carrier (Figure 2), and push
it firmly into the carrier.

Replace the back plate and use a 3/16 inch nutdriver to replace the jack
screws on either side of the Joystick Override connector.

Using a #10 Torx screwdriver, replace the center screw on the back
plate.

Using a 5/16 inch nutdriver, replace the nuts and screws holding the
back plate onto the panel.

Reconnect the DC power, communications, and Joystick Override

cables to the rear of the Remote Aux panel.

12.

Place the label provided in the kit on the front of the Remote Aux panel
to designate it as a Kalypso Remote Aux panel. This completes the
upgrade.
