Rotary Vibrating
HE new model GRANT ROTARY VIBRATING RIVETERS arc designed and built to meet the
demand for a high production machine to head rivets cold from %o" to $/6" diameter.

structed table can be furnished to suit work where the standard table cannot be used.
and made from hexagon slock as this permits the use of a wrench.
.riveting tool or pcen is made flat so as to butt against lower end of hammer spindle to insure a solid
blow. 1 lie fact that the hammer spindle is rotated in the same direction as the threads in riveting tool
or pcen. is what prevents the tool from coming off while operating machine.
bronze to minimize wear at this point. This hammer spindle is rotated clockwise through a worm drive
located inside of spindle arm. The worm wheel for rotating hammer spindle is located between upper
and lower bearings with hardened and ground spacing washers. These spacing washers also hold two
spline keys in worm wheel from cutting bronze bushings. The worm shaft is driven by a “V” belt con-
necling with mainshaft in rear of machine. The pulleys used with ‘‘V’
respective shafts as it has been found from long test that pulleys mounted in such a manner do not come
loose in service
1 lie hammer spindle is made from a chrome vanadium steel forging and heat treated to prevent
cryslalization from shock.
rubber; made specially to specification, to reduce internal heating and give maximum service.
The helve is made from a high grade of seasoned hickory wood specially selected for its straight
grain. The purpose of this helve is similar to the handle on an ordinary hammer.
The mainshaft in rear of machine has at its center an eccentric bearing which gives the connecting
rod a reciprocating motion. 1 his connecting rod passes through thrust block at rear end of helve, thereby
transmitting the reciprocating motion of connecting rod from eccentric on mainshaft to rubber cushions,
which in turn act on thrust block, causing helve to vibrate hammer spindle.
I he driveshaft is mounted in high grade bronze bearings and is of sufficient dimensions to insure
long life. 1
have been provided.
1 lie clutch is of the friction disc type with Raybestos lining. Pressure is applied to an inner plate
by a bronze thrust nut engaging threads on outer end of mainshaft bronze bushing and turned by a
treadle rod connected to projecting ear on bronze nut
Thrust ball bearings are used to take the thrust between bronze nut on mainshaft bearing bushing
and inner clutch plate, also the thrust of mainshaft at left side of machine between small pulley (for
driving spindle worm) and frame.
A brake is also provided to stop hammer spindle in its uppermost position to allow' w'ork to be in
serted and removed easily. The brake is made part of treadle rod connector and engages a high point
on inner clutch plate.
These machines are equipped with three step cone pulleys for “V
making these machines capable of being operated at three different speeds, depending upon the diam
eter of the rivet to be headed, and the material from which the rivet is made.
These machines arc all equipped with Alcmitc Fittings for lubrication purposes.
This type of Riveting Machine is known as a Vibratory Hammer—the hammer spindle is
caused to vibrate in a vertical direction and is positively rotated by means of a worm and gear.
fhe frame is of a single casting and is designed to withstand the heavy vibrations of the rivet
The standard tabic has a flat top to permit fixtures to be attached, but in some cases a specially con
The riveting tool or pcen used on the machine is threaded to lit outside diameter of hammer spindle
The hammer spindle bearings have been made extra long and from a high grade of special bearing
I he front and rear rubber cushions have been made sufficiently large and from the best grade of

THE
“

is the
of
Fitting the Machine to the Job
—
rather than the common practice
of attempting' to fit the job to some
standard stock model Riveter.
For that reason the comprehensive
Grant line includes all of the rec

in both single and multiple spindles;
the Vibratory design and Pneu
