Grant 5702 User Manual

This GRANT Banjo Wheel Kit can only be used on a GRANT Banjo Wheel and is not for use on any other type of wheel or a competitor’s product. It cannot be used in conjunction with our Vehicle Security System.
REMOVING ORIGINAL WHEEL
1. Point wheels straight ahead and disconnect battery or pull horn fuse before starting removal of the old wheel so horn won’t short out and blow during installation.
2. Remove horn mechanism. This is normally done by one or more of the following steps:
a) Press down on horn cap or ring and turn. b) Remove emblem cap from its snapped-in condition by
grasping it and pulling toward you or pry loose.
c) Horn Ring and emblem may be secured by screws
3. Remove the wire or metal contact plunger from the horn contact housing by pulling or, on most models, by t wisting left and pulling up on the plastic sleeve.
4. Remove the safet y clip over the shaft nut, if so equipped, (retain for later use) and remove the shaft nut holding the wheel to the vehicle.
5. With conventional pull er (or GRANT puller 5891), use the two tapped holes which you will find in the hub of old wheel to pull off the steering shaft. Mark the shaft to denote the top of the wheel.
If a puller is not available, you may improvise an efficient one to do the job. By drilling two holes of the proper size in a short steel bar and using two screws of the proper length you can tighten them and pull the ol d wheel very easily.
6. After original wheel and associated hardware have been removed, slide the small tubular metal sle eve provided in GRANT kit down over the steering shaft.
7. Insert the wire lead into the new black plastic sleeve, notice the bell shaped end will not pass through the sleeve. (The bell shaped end is inverted from the factory one, but this is by design). Insert the spring into the plastic tube first followed by the wire lead/plastic sleeve assembly and lock into place.
which are concealed in rear side of wheel spokes.
If one of the above operations has n ot removed all of the horn parts, it will have exposed the remaining screws to permit easy removal of the balance of such parts.

8. Install Banjo Kit assembly onto splined shaft routing horn wire through the hole provided and observing that the arro w stamped on top of the hub is aligned with the mark you made in step 5.
9. Preparing wheel for installation: Remove plastic horn button from wheel (it is easier to push out from the back side) then remove the trim ring surrounding this button by pulling up from the front (we ship these components separately in the box and not installed on the wheel, this instruction is if they are already in the wheel). Remove the five (5) Allen screws securing the wheel to the GT adapter, which will not be used. Transfer wheel to Banjo kit assembly on column notin g that it is oriented correctly and reinstall the five screws and tighten securely. Remove one of the three bolts in the kit assembly and insert the eyelet on wire provided in kit under bolt and then reinstall and tighten to 10-12 ft/lbs. Do not over-tighte n as damage to the hub may result.
10. Check again to be sure the wheel is in the proper position, and if correct, install the wheel retainer nut and tighten securely to 25-30 ft/lbs. Install the safety clip (from step 4) over shaft nut. Should retainer not quite fit into the gr oove in shaft, tighten nut further until it will.
11. Install the horn button trim ring into center of wheel. Connect the grounded wire lead to the outer terminal on the back of the horn button and the wire coming up from the custom hub to the center terminal. Push horn button into trim ring, reconnect battery or replace horn fuse and enjoy your new GRANT Banjo Wheel.
