Gradient SW-D
A NEW SUBWOOFER SYSTEM FOR THE QUAD ESL-63
AS WELL AS FOR THE QUAD ESL-988/989
Gradient SW-S/D is based on the same dipole technique as the original SW-63
which physically fits only the ESL 63 serving at the same time as a stand.
Gradient SW-S consists of two 12" long throw custom made woofers. Actually
it is the bass section of the Gradient Revolution loudspeaker. When stacked
as in the picture above you get the SW-D (double pair).
For playback you need a pair of units, one for each channel, an active
crossover and two power amplifiers. Usually single units (SW-S) will do but in
big rooms a stacked pair will help.
The main benefit over the SW-63 is the possibility to rotate the bass sections to
direct the dipole bass radiation. This helps to obtain the most uncolored bass
with minimum effects of standing waves in the listening room.
Together with the new Gradient High End crossover this system will reach the
most realistic level of performance.
The units are available with either black painted or solid cherry wood parts.
The height of a single unit is 75 cm with spikes (30") and that of a stacked
system is 145 cm (57").
