The video unit may fall, causing serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the unit. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket or table recommended by the manufacturer or sold with the video unit. Any mounting of the unit should follow the manufacturer’s instructions and should use a mounting accessory recommended by the manufacturer.

9. VENTILATION - Slots and openings in the cabinet are provided for ventilation to ensure reliable operation of the video unit and to protect it from overheating. These openings must not be blocked or covered. Never place your VCR on a bed, sofa, rug or other similar surface, on or near a radiator or heat register. 11. GROUNDING OR POLARIZATION - This video unit may be equipped with either a polarized 2-wire AC line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other) or a 3-wire grounding plug having a third (grounding) pin.
The 2-wire polarized plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug still fails to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.

13. OUTDOOR ANTENNA GROUNDING - If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the video unit, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1984, provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. See figure on this page.
14. LIGHTNING - For added protection of this video unit during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. minutes to prevent excessive tape wear. Slow-Motion Playback is designed to work best at the SP and SLP speeds. It is normal to occasionally see some streaks in the picture during
Slow-Motion Playback. Use the Tracking buttons on the remote control to adjust the Tracking for the best picture.
Tracking
Occasionally, when you play a tape in your VCR that was recorded on a different VCR or camcorder, noise (white streaks) may appear if the recorded tracks on it do not align precisely with the playback heads on your deck. Your Dual-Deck VCR is equipped with an automatic Digital Tracking system. This system is activated whenever you insert a tape and press the Play button. Sometimes, however, you may need to use the manual Tracking buttons to adjust the picture. When you do this, the Automatic Digital Tracking system is disabled. It can be reactivated again by pressing the Auto Track button on the front panel of the Dual-Deck VCR.
To manually adjust tracking:
Press one of the Tracking buttons to move the streaks up or down
and out of the picture.
You can also use the manual Tracking buttons during Pause
(Stop-Action) viewing to reduce picture jitter (picture bouncing up and down). Use the Tracking buttons to minimize noise when playing back stereo audio. Tracking only affects tape playback; it has no effect during recording.

Duplicating a Tape
Record Safety Tab
If you wish to record onto a tape with a missing record safety tab, place a small piece of adhesive tape over the hole.
A popular feature of your Dual-Deck VCR is the ease and simplicity of copying prerecorded video tapes. Your Dual-Deck VCR has two copy modes that can be used when duplicating tapes. During AmeriChrome Copy 2, the recording speed of Deck 2 will automatically be set to match the play speed of Deck 1. Otherwise the duplicated tape will be recorded at the present menu speed for that deck. To use AmeriChrome Copy 2, the original tape must be in Deck 1, and have been recorded at SP or LP speed. When using AmeriChrome Copy 1, you can change the speed of the recording to fit more programming on a tape. For example, three two-hour tapes made at SP could be duplicated on one two-hour tape at SLP. If the play speed of the original tape is SLP, or the copy is not from Deck 1 to Deck 2, AmeriChrome Copy 1 will automatically be used regardless of the menu setting. See page 26 to change the record speed and AmeriChrome Copy settings. To simplify duplicating a tape, first turn off Auto Play. This prevents tapes from playing each time they are inserted. See pages 26 and 34.

Playback Video Sequencing on your Dual-Deck VCR gives you the ability to play tapes starting on one deck and continuing to the next.
The Dual-Deck VCR Play Mode indicators on the Front Panel indicate when
Video Sequencing is set. See pages 4 - 5.
Playback Sequencing
Sequential Play allows you to play a tape on Deck 1 and when complete, continue to play another tape on Deck 2.
Loop Play allows you to play a tape on Deck 1 and when complete, play a tape on Deck 2 (while the tape in Deck 1 is rewinding). When the tape in Deck 2 is complete, Deck 1 begins to play (while the tape in Deck 2 rewinds). This process repeats until you press the Stop button on the deck in play.

VHS Index Search System
The Index system used on the Dual-Deck VCR is the VHS standard indexing system called VHS Index Search System (VISS). This system is compatible with tapes made on other VCRs and camcorders using the VISS system.
The Index system provides a convenient means to Mark the start of a program or video scene. The Dual-Deck VCR records Index Marks on the tape each time you begin recording. You may add Index Marks during playback of prerecorded tapes to aid in editing. See pages 18 - 19.
During playback, these Index Marks can be located quickly by using the Index Scan/Search Menu..
Recording An Index Mark:
VHS Index Search System
An Index Mark is recorded on the tape automatically each time the
Record button is pressed.
The Index indicator on the fluorescent display will blink as the Index
Mark is being recorded. An Index Mark is not recorded when a recording is started from the Pause button.
An Index Mark can manually be inserted onto the tape by pressing
the Mark button on the remote control during playback.
The prerecorded videotape must have the record safety tab intact to add Index
Marks. See pages 8, 10.

Your Dual-Deck VCR gives you a whole new range of editing capabilities. You can duplicate a tape, removing scenes from the original that you don't want to record on your copy. You may find it easier to edit when the On-Screen Display (OSD) is on your TV screen. Press the DSP button to view the OSD on your TV. The OSD shows you the status and Tape Counter of both decks at all times. The OSD does not record on to your videotape. Make sure the Auto Play feature in the Video Menu is set to OFF. Auto Features
Your Dual-Deck VCR has a number of automatic features that simplify tape viewing.
Auto Dimmer - The Dual-Deck VCR front panel fluorescent display will
dim between the hours of 10:00PM and 6:00AM. Auto Play - When a tape with no record safety tab is inserted into either
deck, your Dual-Deck VCR begins playing the tape. The TV View switches to that deck. If a tape is already playing in the other deck, it will continue to play. You can view either deck. You can turn Auto Play on or off in the Video Menu; it is preset to OFF. See page 26.
Auto Power Off - While a tape is rewinding, recording a timer event or performing a One-Touch Record, press the Power button and your Dual-Deck VCR will turn off when the rewind, event or OTR is complete. The Power indicator will blink while this mode is active. Pressing Power or any tape-related button (e.g.: Play, Stop, etc.) will cancel Auto Power Off.
Auto Power On - Power turns on when a tape is inserted into either deck. The TV/VCR indicator switches to VCR.
Auto Rewind - Your Dual-Deck VCR will automatically rewind when the end of the tape is reached during play or fast forward. You can turn Auto Rewind on or off in the Video Menu; it is preset to ON. See page 26.
Auto Stop - Your Dual-Deck VCR will stop if a deck is left in Record Pause for more than 5 minutes, and will begin playing again if left in
Play Still for more than 5 minutes. This prevents excessive tape wear.
Memory Stop - If the Memory Stop is set, your Dual-Deck VCR will stop
when 0:00 is reached on the Tape Counter when rewinding or fast
forwarding. See page 31. Remote Load/Eject - You can load and eject tapes using your Remote
Control. Press Play to load a tape that is in the ejected position. Press Stop/Eject to eject a tape which is stopped. You can turn Remote Load/Eject on or off in the Video Menu; it is preset to ON. See page 26.
Fail-Safe Timer Record - Your Dual-Deck VCR contains Enhanced AmeriChrome Circuitry which prevents errors while programming the timer. If a potential problem is detected in a timer event the
Dual-Deck VCR warns you with an On-Screen Display message that is easy to understand. If the power fails the Dual-Deck VCR maintains all of the timer settings so all you have to do is reset the clock when the power is restored and the timer event(s) will automatically update.
34
Your Dual-Deck VCR Tape Counter allows you to note the location of specific sections of your tapes and find them quickly later. The Tape Counter in your Dual-Deck VCR is a real-time counter. This means the display is shown in hours and minutes. If you are using a T-120 tape the Tape Counter will run from 0:00 to 2:00 in SP mode, 0:00 to 4:00 in LP mode and 0:00 to 6:00 in SLP mode.
To reset the Tape Counter, insert a tape into either deck, then select that deck using the TV View button. Press the Clear button (Reset on the remote control). The Tape Counter will be reset to 0:00 for that deck; the Tape Counter of the other deck will not be affected. To reset the Tape Counter of the other deck, switch TV View to that deck, then press the Clear button (Reset on the remote control).
The Tape Counter position for both decks can be seen on the On-Screen Display (OSD) and on the Front Panel Display for the deck that is being viewed. To see the Tape Counter on the Front Panel Display, press the Ctr/ Clock button on the front panel (CTR on the remote control) of your Dual-Deck VCR. Press the Ctr/Clock button (CTR on the remote control) again to see the current time. This must be done separately for each deck.
Tape Counter & Memory Stop
The Tape Counter only runs when the tape has recorded material on it; a blank
tape will show 0:00 during rewind and fast forward. If a blank section of tape is encountered during play, rewind or fast forward, the Tape Counter will stop running until video is found again. We recommend you reset the Tape Counter each time you insert a tape. Resetting the Tape Counter assures you a consistent reading when you want to write down the Tape Counter time of a specific scene. This is important when preparing notes for editing.
You may also place a Memory Stop on your tape which marks the tape so that when either rewinding or fast forwarding, the tape will automatically stop when the counter reaches 0:00 (your Memory Stop mark). To set the Memory Stop mode for the last deck viewed, press the Memory button. An M will appear below the Tape Counter setting in the OSD.

Connections
If you have a monitor-style TV, or if your TV has separate video and audio input connections, you can connect your Dual-Deck VCR to these connections for improved picture and sound quality.
These connections are used instead of the Out to TV connections shown in the Quick Connections, Antenna Connections, and Cable Connections chapters.
To view your Dual-Deck VCR on the monitor, it may be necessary to switch
the monitor to “Video”, “AUX” or “LINE”. Refer to your monitor’s owner’s manual for instructions.
When this connection style is used, the TV/VCR setting on the Dual-Deck VCR has no effect. The monitor will always display the current TV View when it is switched to the Dual-Deck VCR.
44
The Monitor Out connection on the Dual-Deck VCR is useful for editing. Connect Monitor Out to your video mixing console or video monitor input. The picture will be the same as the Dual-Deck VCR Video Out however there will be no On-Screen Display.
Placement of Your Dual-Deck VCR
Place your Dual-Deck VCR within three feet, but not on top of your TV. Place your Dual-Deck VCR in a horizontal position only. Do not place your Dual-Deck VCR in extremely hot, cold, humid or dusty places. See page 46 for specifications. Do not place your Dual-Deck VCR near appliances with electric motors. Do not put anything on top of your Dual-Deck VCR. Keep liquids and food away from your Dual-Deck VCR.
Cleaning the Dual-Deck VCR Cabinet
Dust the surface using a soft cloth. Use the dusting attachment of your vacuum occasionally to remove dust from the ventilation holes on the top, back, sides, and bottom of the cabinet.
Cleaning the Video Heads
Playing poor quality or damaged tapes in your Dual-Deck VCR can contaminate the video heads. Use only high quality tapes in your Dual-Deck VCR.
Care of Your DualDeck V CR
Dirt which accumulates on the video heads may cause the picture to blur. If this happens, the video heads need to be cleaned. Purchase a non-abrasive head cleaning tape from your video dealer. We recommend "wet" head cleaning tapes. Be sure to follow the instructions that come with the cleaning tape; excessive use of a cleaning tape can shorten head life. Cleaning by any means other than a cleaning tape will void your warranty.
Care of Videotapes
Do not expose tapes to direct sunlight, extreme heat or extreme cold. Do not disassemble any cassette. Do not touch the tape. Rewind tapes after use and store in protective cases. Remove the record safety tab to prevent recording over previous recordings.
Humidity Requirements
If your Dual-Deck VCR is suddenly moved from a cold to a warm place, moisture may form inside the unit. Before operating, allow at least 2 hours after plugging in the power cord for your Dual-Deck VCR to dry completely. Failure to do so may cause damage to your Dual-Deck VCR and the tape. See page 46 for specifications.
Service and Warranty
Never open your Dual-Deck VCR cabinet or touch the inside parts. To do so is dangerous and may cause damage. Do not try to disassemble your Dual-Deck VCR – there are no user-serviceable parts inside.
Servicing of your Dual-Deck VCR should be done by an authorized service center. For service information, see the inside back cover.
Energy Conservation
Save energy. If you will not be using your Dual-Deck VCR for a long period of time, unplug the electrical cord.
Shipping Your Dual-Deck VCR
Carefully pack your Dual-Deck VCR in the original packing materials and carton for shipping.

Troubleshooting
A strong static electricity shock, or other unforeseen circumstance, can cause the control system of your Dual-Deck VCR to lock up. To reset the control system, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for 5 seconds and plug it in again. If this does not restore all operations to normal, unplug it again for two minutes. You will then need to reset the clock. If this still does not restore all operations to normal, unplug the cord for ten minutes. Plug the unit back in, making sure your clock display has only four dashes (--:--). Then, simultaneously press the ATR, SAVE, and ESC buttons on Deck 1. This last step will clear all memories (deck speeds, Timer Recordings and Channel Memory) in your Dual-Deck VCR. If these steps do not correct the problem, the Dual-Deck VCR must be serviced by an authorized service center.
