CHARGING THE BATTERY
For the b est experi ence with your new camer a, we recommend fully charging the battery before first use.
1. Press the button on the bot tom door, then sl ide it open.
4. Connect the ca mera to a computer or ot her USB charging adapter using t he included cab le. The camera status light tur ns on durin g charging and turns off wh en charging is complete.
When c harging with a comp uter, be sure that t he computer i s connecte d to a power sour ce. If the camera status li ght does not

turn o n, use a different USB po rt. The ba ttery cha rges to 100% in about

UPDATING YOUR CAMERA SOFT WARE
To get the latest features and be st perfor mance from your GoP ro, make sure your c amera is always usi ng the most cu rrent soware.
1. Download these apps:
• Capt ure app from t he Apple App Store or Google P lay
• Quik for desktop fro m gopro.com/apps
2. Conn ect your ca mera to your sm artphone/tab let or compute r. T he app au tomatically noti fies you when c amera updates are avail able and provides instruc tions for up dating.

If the memor y card beco mes full during record ing, your ca mera autom atically saves th e video, the n powers off.
NOTICE: Use care when ha ndling mem ory card s. Avoid liquid s, dust and de bris. As a precaution , power off the ca mera before inser ting or removing the car d. Check ma nufactu rer guideli nes regarding use in acceptable temperature ranges.

CHANGING MODES WITH THE MODE BUT TON
The Mode but ton lets you quickly cycle through the capture mod es that you used m ost recentl y. For exam ple, if you prev iously sele cted

To Power On:
Press the Mode b utton . The cam era beeps several times w hile the came ra status lights fl ash. When t he camera status screen displays infor mation, you r camera is on.
To Power Off:
Press and ho ld the Mode button for two seconds. The camera beeps sever al times while the camera status lights fla sh.
PRO TIP: You can a lso power th e camera on a nd off with voic e commands. For details, see (page 32).

QuikC apture is the fastest way to capture video or time la pse content with HERO5 Bla ck. Beca use the camera is powered on only when it is capturing, you al so conser ve batter y power.
Note: QuikCa pture is disab led when the cam era is connec ted to a GoPro remote or t he Capture app.

ADDING HILIGHT TAGS
You can mark spe cific moment s in your video dur ing recording or play back with HiLight Tags . HiLight Tags make it e asy to find the best highlights to share.
You can ad d tags with yo ur camera, the Capture app, or t he Smart Remote (s old separa tely).
To Add a HiLight Tag with Your Camera: While recording or playing ba ck video, press the Mode button.

You can play bac k your content o n the camer a’s touch displ ay, your computer, TV, or sma rtphone/table t.
You can al so play bac k content by inserting the micr oSD card directly into a device, such as a c omputer or co mpatible T V. With this meth od, play back resol ution depends on t he resoluti on of the devi ce and its ability to play ba ck that resol ution.

OFFLOADING FILES TO THE CLOUD
With GoPro Plus, you c an upload yo ur content to th e cloud and then view, edit, and shar e it from any of yo ur devices. Use the Quik or S plice app to edit content fr om the cloud on your mo bile device and share it with your friends.
1. Subscrib e to GoPro Plus: a. Download C apture to your mobil e device from the Ap ple App
Store or G oogle Play.
b. Follow the on -screen in structions to conne ct your cam era to
the app.
c. If this is the first time you are connec ting to the app, foll ow the
on-screen instruc tions to subs cribe to GoP ro Plus. Oth erwise, tap [CLOUD ICON] next to the ima ge of your camera an d follow the instructions.
2. Connect your ca mera to a power outlet . When the batter y is charged, a utomatic upload to t he cloud beg ins.
3. To a ccess your content f rom the cloud, con nect to the C apture app and ta p [

4. Download the desired content to your phone, then use the Quik or Splic app to edit and share.

PRO TIP: To offload fil es to a computer using a c ard reader (sold separately), connect the card reader to your computer, then insert the micro SD card. You can then trans fer files to your c omputer or delete selected files on your card.

Two types of command s are availa ble with Voice Control: action com mands and m ode comman ds. Your camera does not nee d to be in a sp ecific mode to capt ure video or photos. You can use the action com mands from any mod e.

RESOLUTION, F PS, AND FOV
Vide o resolution refers to the number of horizonta l lines in the v ideo. For example, 720 p means that the video has 720 hor izontal lines, each w ith a width of 1280 pixels . Higher numbers of l ines and pixels result in greater detail and clar ity. So, a video with r esolution of 2.7K is consi dered high er quality t han 720p bec ause it consists of 2704 lines, each w ith a width of 1520 pixels.
Frame s per second (fps) refers to th e number of vi deo frame s that are captured in e ach secon d.
The field of view (FOV ) refers to how much of the scene (mea sured in degrees) can be ca ptured through th e camera lens. Wide FOV captures th e largest amount of the scene, while Nar row FOV captu res the least.
HERO5 Bl ack includes th e video reso lutions, fps, an d FOVs listed below. T he default resolution is 1080p60 Wi de.

In the T ime Laps e mode, resolution an d FOV apply o nly to Time Lapse Video.
Vide o resolution refers to the number of horizonta l lines in the v ideo. For example, 720 p means that the video has 720 hor izontal lines, each w ith a width of 1280 pixels . Higher numbers of l ines and pixels result in greater detail and clar ity. So, a video with r esolution of 2.7K is consi dered high er quality t han 720p bec ause it consists of 2704 lines, each w ith a width of 1520 pixels.
The field of view (FOV ) refers to how much of the scene (mea sured in degrees) can be ca ptured through th e camera lens. Wide FOV captures th e largest amount of the scene, while Nar row FOV captu res the least.

MOUNTING GUIDELINES
Follow these guidelines when attaching adhesive mounts:
• Atta ch the adhe sive mounts at leas t 24 hours before use.
• Adhesive mounts m ust be mounted only o n smooth sur faces.
Porou s or textured surf aces do not enable a proper b ond. When applying the mount, firmly press it into place and en sure full conta ct over the entire su rface.
• Apply adhesive mounts to clea n surface s only. Wax, oil, dirt o r
other d ebris red uce adhesi on, which c an result in a weak bon d and risk of losing the camera should the connecti on fail.
• Atta ch adhesive mounts in room temp erature con ditions.
Adhesives d o not bond properly if appl ied in cold or damp environme nts to cold or da mp surfa ces.
• Check stat e and local regulation s and laws to en sure that

BATTE RY STORAGE AND HANDLING
The camera contains sensitive components, including the battery. Avoid exposing your camera a nd bat tery to ver y cold or very hot tempe ratures. Low or high temperature condition s may temporarily shor ten the bat tery life o r cause the c amera to te mporaril y stop work ing properly. Avoid dramatic changes in temperature or humidity when using t he camera , as conden sation may form on or w ithin the ca mera.
The camera housing protects the camera and batter y from water damage. For more information, see Camera Housing. Do not turn on your c amera if it is wet. If your camera is alread y on, turn it off and remove the battery immediately. Allow the camera to dry thoroughly before using it again. • Using a n incompatible video pl ayer. Not all video players su pport the H.26 4 codec. For best result s, download the l atest version of Quik for desktop for f ree at gopro.com/apps.
• The co mputer does not meet the min imum requir ements for HD play back. The highe r the resolution an d frame rate of your video, the harder the computer has to wor k to play it bac k. Make sure that your computer meets the minimum requirements for the playback soware.
If your computer does not mee t the minimum r equirements, record at 720p 30 with Protune off, and make sure that a ll other progr ams on your compute r are closed.
