Safety Instructions
Important – All Models
To prevent operator injury and damage to the equipment, please read and observe the following basic safety precautions:
1. Read all instructions before using.
2. If vacuum does not operate properly or has been damaged, return it to the factory for service.
3. Do not vacuum hot, burning or smoking material such as cigarettes, matches or hot ash.
4. Do not use in areas where combustible liquids or airborne particles may be present without taking proper safety measures.
5. Keep objects, loose clothing, hair and body parts away from openings and moving parts.
6. Keep all openings free of lint, dust or anything that impedes airflow.
7. Be extra careful when cleaning stairs.
8. Use only attachments and filters recommended by Goodway.
9. Strict supervision is required when vacuum is operated near children.
10. To avoid electrical shock, never expose vacuum to rain. Store vacuum indoors in a cool, dry area.
11. Unplug the power cord when servicing the vacuum, changing filters or leaving the vacuum unattended.
12. Turn off all controls before unplugging the power cord.
13. When unplugging the power cord, grasp the plug – not the cord.
14. Do not use the vacuum if cord or plug is damaged.
15. Do not handle the vacuum with wet hands.
16. Do not pull the cord, close a door on the cord or pull the cord around sharp corners. Keep the cord away from hot surfaces.
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
This appliance must be grounded. If it should malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounded conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be inserted into an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
WARNING: Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in risk of electric shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with the appliance – if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

Operating Instructions for your
BPV-50 Backpack Vacuum
FITTING LID OF UNIT
Pull clamps out and lift lid off. To fit lid, make sure filter bag is located in canister firmly, then locate over filter bag ring so that the clamps on housing line up to engage inserts on lid. Push lid firmly down so that clamps lock into position. Vac hose assembly is fitted to the lid by inserting cuff on hose and then turning cuff clockwise to a lock position.
FITTING UNIT TO OPERATOR’S BACK
Unit comes with straps neatly fastened for ease of packing. There are two distinct types of support pads.
1. A padded-contoured lower back pad.
2. Two shoulder pads.
BEFORE fitting unit become familiar with various adjustments for operator comfort and safety.
1. LOWER BACKPAD ADJUSTMENTS
a. To unfasten hip belt buckle, gently squeeze both “push-ins” with finger and thumb at the
same time. To fasten simply side pronged end into receiving end of buckle.
b. To adjust hip belt straps pull on the free strap (on the pronged side). To loosen hip belt,
unfasten buckle towards unit and pull on the fixed end of the strap.
c. Hip belt straps are fastened to lower back pad with Velcro. These straps can be pulled off
and repositioned up or down to suite operator comfort.
2. SHOULDER STRAP ADJUSTMENT
a. To loosen simply tilt up strap lock and allow straps to slide. To tighten pull-down on
bottom straps.
b. Lower straps on shoulder pads are attached to lower frame brackets of unit. These straps
can be released from the strap locks and straps fitted to the upper frame brackets to suit operators with a short torso.
Now that strap adjustments are understood proceed to fit unit for operation. I. With shoulder straps loosened (but not detached) slide arms under straps so that
padding is over shoulders, make sure straps do not twist. Take up any slack on shoulder straps but do not tighten until hip belt is fitted.
II. Sit lower pack pad on the top of hips.
II. B. This step is important as unit is designed for the weight to be distributed over the
hips and not on the shoulders.
III. Tighten hip belt so that unit is firmly sitting over hips. IV. Now pull on lower shoulder straps to make a final adjustment to shoulder pads to suit
your comfort.
V. With unit in a comfortable position, plug electric cord into a safe socket. To switch
on, reach back with your right hand to the lower side of the unit to the switch and push on.
REMOVAL OF UNIT
1. Push off switch
2. Release buckle on hip belt.
3. Loosen shoulder straps and slide off.

4. Unplug electric cable and wind cable starting from unit end and NOT plug end. This helps in preventing twisting and distortion of cable. This will ensure longer cable life.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
A. Always empty filter bag when full. Filter bag is removed by detaching lid and then
lifting out bag. Be careful not to get dust on the outside of the filter bag or inside the canister.
B. Check fiber bag for holes or tears. Replace filter bag immediately if torn or otherwise
damaged.
C. The cleaner the filter bag is kept, the better the vacuum performs. If very fine dust, like
talc or cement is picked up it will clog the filter bag and reduce suction. Therefore, brush clean the inside of the filter bag regularly by turning inside out. A disposable paper filter bag can be placed inside the standard filter bag. (see below)
D. NEVER WASH THE FILTER BAG. E. After use always detach hose and tools before storing. Check hose, tubes, floor tool and
unit lid for blockages.
F. When electric cable is UNPLUGGED check cable for any damage. G. Check that lower back pad is tight and secure. H. Store unit upright on its base or hang it by the carry handle. PAPER FILTER BAGS – Goodway P/N BPV-50-6. To fit, remove lid (MAKE SURE that cloth filter bag is in place) open up the inside of paper bag and slide rubber seal over intake on bottom of lid. When paper bag is in position, then fit lid. When removing a full paper bag close over fold.
