1890 Polar Pete
Installation Instructions
Inspection of Shipment:
Unpack all cartons and check thoroughly for any damage that may have occurred during transit.
Damage claims should be filed immediately with the transportation company. Gold Medal is not
responsible for damage that occurs in transit.
Setup:
Remove all packing material and tape before starting operation.
Electrical Requirements:
The following power supply must be provided:
1890: Usage - 8.1 Amps, 972 Watts. Requires - 120 Volt, 15 Amp, 60 Hz AC receptacle.
1890EX: Usage - 3.2 Amps, 736 Watts. Requires - 230 Volt, 16 Amp, 50 Hz AC receptacle.
Your electrician must furnish sufficient current for proper machine operation. We recommend this ice
shaver machine be on a dedicated and circuit protected line. Failure to wire properly will void the
warranty and can result in damage to the heat elements, light, motor and etc.
It is Gold Medal Products Company’s recommendation that this machine be plugged directly into a
wall outlet. The use of extension cords is not recommended due to safety risks and the ice shaver’s
performance will be sacrificed/reduced.
Before You Plug In Machine:
1. Make sure that the wall outlet can accept the three (3) prong grounded plug on the power supply
cord.
2. The wall outlet must have the proper polarity. If in doubt, have a competent electrician inspect the
outlet and correct if necessary.
3. DO NOT use a three (3) prong grounded to two (2) prong un-grounded adapter.

Machine Operation
Ice Requirements
The 1890 can take ice cubes small or medium in size. If using a block of ice, break into pieces
approximately 2 to 3 inches in size.
NOTE: The ice will not enter the shaving chute if the pieces are too large.
To Operate the Polar Pete:
1. Plug the power cord into the appropriate electrical outlet.
2. Fill the hopper to within an inch of the top with ice cubes (no larger than 3" to 4"). Softened ice
makes better snow and prolongs blade life.
3. Toggle the POWER switch to the ON position.
4. While pushing the MOMENTARY switch, apply downward pressure to the pusher handle. Apply
firm and even pressure to make the best snow. Practice will allow you to gauge when to stop
pressing. This allows the ice to resettle against the shaver head. Too much pressure will result in
snow that is coarse; too little pressure will make the snow mushy.
NOTE: Never allow any foreign or metallic objects around the shaver area of the 1890. Ice picks,
scoops, and debris in the ice will damage blades.
