Introduction:
The mixer is designed to vortex the contents of tubes from the smallest up to 25mm in diameter. Larger tubes or glassware may also be vortexed by resting them on the rim of the orbiting rubber cup.
Controls:
Power Switch: The three-position switch on the right of the panel controls the power. With the switch in the center position, all power is off and the machine will not operate. When in the ON position, the mixer will run continuously. The TOUCH CUP position permits the operator to start the motor automatically as the tube depresses the rubber cup.
Motor Speed: The knob on the left of the control panel controls the motor speed. The speed may be adjusted to obtain the best mixing action. Using the lowest speed for particular diameter tube will avoid any spillage.
Operation:
Select the desired mode of operation. The power switch may be set to any mode of operation. The motor speed control may be placed at any desirable setting for any mode of operation. The modes of operation are listed below:
POWER SWITCH
Continuous On
Touch Control Touch Cup
When in the touch cup mode, the motor starts automatically when the tube depresses the rubber cup. Downward pressure is necessary to maintain the vortexing action. As the tube is removed and downward pressure is released, the motor will automatically stop.
For best mixing results, the tube should be not more than half full. The test tube should be held firmly, close to the top edge and then inserted into the rubber cup. Large diameter tubes such as 25mm require the motor to run slower to start the vortex action. This usually is accomplished by the mass of the tube slowing down the speed of the motor. Tipping the tube over at a slight angle will assist in the mixing action. Note: Small diameter tubes from 10 to 16mm will vortex at almost any motor speed setting.
The midrange tubes from 18 to 22mm require a slower speed setting of the motor to avoid spillage. Try these size tubes at a low speed and adjust the MOTOR SPEED control until the vortex almost reaches the bottom of the tube. Use this speed setting for these size tubes.
