FEATURES
We would like to thank you for having purchased a precision sphygmomanometer. All sphygmomanometers are manufactured with high quality materials and, when maintained at perfect operating efciency through regular calibration checks, ensure complete reliability and precision, even after several years of use. Our line of sphygmomanometers offers the same quality standards for both professional and home models. The sphygmomanometer you have purchased complies with EEC directive 93/42/CEE.
PRESCRIPTIONS
It must be noted that self-measuring instruments are not a substitute for regular medical checkups, and that only your doctor can accurately analyze these measurements.
SPHYGMOMANOMETER
Arterial pressure is highly inuenced by one’s nervous tension and physical fatigue. It is therefore recommended that you perform the measurement under conditions of both physical and mental relaxation (it is recommended to stay relaxed for at least 15 minutes before measurement), while in a sitting or supine position straight not crossing legs and, where possible, always at the same time of day. Patients should not have been exposed to temperature changes, nor should they have eaten or smoked for at least 30 minutes prior to taking measurement. Remember: do not move and do not talk while measuring your pressure and do not wear clothing that covers your arm and could limit blood circulation. Pressure varies during the day: it is lower in the morning and higher in the evening; it is also lower in the
summer and higher in the winter.
A recommendation is that 5 minutes should elapse before each measurement. Do not allow a blood pressure cuff to remain on patient for more than 10 minutes when inated above 10 mmhg. This may cause patient distress, disturb blood circulation, and contribute to the injury of peripheral
nerve.

INSTALLATION
After opening the packages, rst of all it is necessary to check all pieces and parts composing the product. Check that they are all present and in perfect conditions. Apply the cuff to your bare left arm, 2-3 cm. above your elbow joint, and then prop up your forearm with the palm up upwards, keeping it at heart level. Close the cuff using the apposite strap. The cuff should be applied evenly and snugly, but not too tight.
If not specically indicated, all sphygmomanometers are equipped with cuffs for adults; upon request, we can provide cuffs for the obese, for use on the thigh and for children, ranging from premature babies up to 14-year-olds.
Position the earpiece of the stethoscope on the artery, under your cuff, after having detected the arterial pulsation with the other hand to be sure the earpiece of the stethoscope is located directly over it arm.
FUNCTIONING
1) After applying the cuff, use the bulb to pump up to 30mmHg beyond the level of individual systolic pressure: in other words, until the brachial artery is blocked (maximum level). It is essential that the person being measured remains seated and calm, and that his/her forearm is resting at heart level, with the inside part facing up.
2) To measure blood pressure, turn the release/deation screw on the bulb, unscrewing it slowly in a counter-clockwise direction. The ideal deation speed is around 2-3 mmHg/sec.
3) Due to the gradual decompression, your blood starts to run through the brachial artery again, which in turn causes an initial pulsation, that is clearly perceived by the phonendoscope: the pressure indicated on the gauge needle at the exact moment this rst beat is recorded is referred to as the “systolic or
maximum pressure”.
Systole = maximum pressure level when the heart contracts and blood is pushed into the blood vessels. As you proceed with decompression, the pulsations gradually decrease until they suddenly disappear or
5
become so low as to be imperceptible. The pressure indicated by the gauge needle at the moment the pulsations disappear is referred to as the “diastolic or minimum pressure”. Diastole: minimum blood pressure level when the heart muscle is expanding and relling with blood.
4) Now completely open the release valve until air begins to come out of the cuff. Blood pressure measurement is now completed. To remove, pull the loose end of the cuff with a smooth motion.

CLEANING, STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE
CLEANING
The Gauge, bulb and valve can be wiped with a slightly dampened cloth or alcohol pad. The Cuff can be wiped with a slightly dampened cloth, or hand-washed with mild detergent and water solution (1:9 solution); in the second case, rinse and let air dry. Do not press or iron the cuff with a hot iron since to the application of heat will melt the hook and loop and destroy their effectiveness
Please note:
- Do not allow liquids to enter inside the sphygmomanometer components.
- It is recommended a monthly cleaning but the following circumstances could request an increase of the frequency:
- Before and after use of different patients;
- When the product is dirty
- High incidence of infectious diseases
- Contact with the skin when there is liquid, such as blood, medicine, sweat.
STORAGE AND MAINTENANCE
Always deate the cuff completely before storage; needle should indicate zero when cuff is fully untouched
- fold the cuff with the hook and loop closure inside to protect it from dust or lint
- store the product at temperatures between -10ºC and 60ºC and relative humidity not exceeding 85%
- do not carry out self-repair or transformation
- do not drop or pull excessively on the sphygmomanometer components.
