Instructions for use
Skin and Extremity Temperature Probes
Attach probe to finger or toe, using adhesive
tape. Take care not to compress blood
vessels.
Furthermore secure lead with adhesive tape.
Readout stabilizes within approximately 3 min.
Central Temperature Probes
Introduce probe, e.g. into the esophagus, the
nasopharynx, the auditory canal up to the
tympanic membrane, or the rectum.
Use only water based cremes for introduction.
Esophageal application
Introduce the probe until it is situated in the
inferior quarter of the esophagus.
Nasopharyngeal application
The correct position has been reached if you
feel resistance when trying to advance the
probe further. Caution! Introduction of the
probe may induce nosebleeding
Rectal application
The probe is in correct position when it has
passed the sphincter.
Use disposeable protective sheet (PC1)
Aural application
Advance the probe until tip reaches the
tympanic membrane. Wrap a layer of cotton
wool around the cable to close the auditory
canal.
Different parts of the body may differ
significantly in temperature. Monitoring
temperature from two different sites, e.g.
oesophagus and extremity, provides indirect
information on the blood flow.
Cleaning
Remove adhesive tape, use cleaning benzine
to remove rests of adhesive. Clean with a
cloth dampened with soap water.
Caution! Do not immerse connector in the
cleaning solution.
Disinfection
Suitable disinfectants: Ethanol and isopropyl
alcohol 70%.
Sterilization:
Steam autoclave at 121ºC
~ 250ºF in 20 min.
Chemical with an
ethyleneoxide mixture.
Do not apply harmed or defective probes,
consult the supplier.
