Description and Use

FoamTrol is a family of chemical products available from GE’s Water & Process Technologies division that can be used in both antifoam (foam prevention) and defoamer (foam knockdown) applications. This comprehensive product line contains a variety of different chemistries to suit a variety of needs. Products include oil-based, water-based, and 100% active concentrates, each with unique composition, specially formulated to address the control of foaming conditions in industrial wastewater and process water systems.
FoamTrol products have been successfully used for years in many different industries and application areas for foam control and prevention.

Problems Addressed

Industrial wastewater and process foaming conditions may cause health and safety issues for employees and others whose job requirements involve being around sumps, tanks, open trenches, aeration basins and similar areas, or equipment where foam formation may occur. Uncontrolled excessive foaming can lead to foam spills onto walkways and grating, creating a slipping hazard. Airborne foam may be a respiratory health issue and can lead to messy and hazardous foam deposits on nearby structures and equipment, requiring labor and time to clean up. Excessive foaming also may cause pump cavitation when foaming wastewater or process water is pumped throughout piping and tanks. This cavitation may lead to premature pump failure, loss of process control and other related issues.

The GE Solution and Value Proposition

GE provides a total program treatment solution for foam control problems. The specific technology discussed herein is accompanied by industry leading application expertise, which is an essential component to improving foam control. State of the art monitoring and data analysis, such as our InSight* program, help ensure effective treatment and control.
The chemical component of the solution comprises a variety of different antifoam and defoamer chemistries, specially formulated to address the control of foaming conditions in a range of industrial wastewater and process water systems.
GE’s package of solutions includes engineering-level troubleshooting expertise. GE provides automatic feed equipment and monitoring systems. By combining precise treatment application with automation, we help avoid costly overfeed/underfeed, foam-related process shutdowns or pumping problems.
