INSTRUCTIONS
INSTALLING THE BATTERY:
Slide off the back cover to the battery compartment
and install two “AA” batteries.
POWER ON:
To turn the unit on (press and hold the yellow
button for 5 seconds) (three beeps indicates that
the unit is on).
BATTERY CHECK:
When first turned on, the detector performs a self
battery test. The LED’s will indicate the battery level,
with each LED indicating about 20% of battery level.
If all LED’s flash twice, the battery level is 100%
If only 4 LED’s flash twice, the battery level is 80%
If only 3 LED’s flash twice, the battery level is 60%
If only 2 LED’s flash twice, the battery level is 40%
If only 1 LED’s flash twice, the battery level is 20%,
change battery immediately.
It is strongly recommended that the battereis be replaced when the battery charge level drops to 40%
or below.
OPERATION
LIGHTNING DETECTION:
When the unit is on, the Blue LED will blink
continuously (two seconds on and three seconds
off). When a lightning strike is detected, the
detector will light the appropriate LED indicating
the approximate distance of the lightning strike.
(Either an audible beep or vibration may be
chosen to alert the user).
LD7_MAN_092910_4R.qxp:ps 9/29/10 2:47 PM Page 4
a. One beep (or one second vibrate) and the
Green LED being lit up will indicate a strike
within the 24 to 40 mile range.
b.Two beeps (or a two second vibration) and the
Yellow LED being lit up will indicate a strike
within the 12 to 24 mile range.
c. Three beeps (or a three second vibration) and
the Orange LED being lit up will indicate a
strike within the 6 to 12 mile range.
d.Four beeps (or a four second vibration) and
the Red LED being lit up will indicate a strike
within the 0 to 6 mile range.
Pressing the yellow button for different time
intervals accesses different functions.
STORM ACTIVITY:
(Press & hold the yellow button between
2-3 seconds.) This will initiate a reading from
previous activity.
The detector can detect whether a storm is
approaching, departing, stationary or no activity.
a. If the LED’s cycle from the Blue power LED
upwards to the Orange and Yellow LED
’
s,
(6-12 / 12-24) in a symmetrical fashion, the
storm is stationary or there is not enough data
to determine the direction of the storm.
b.If the LED’s cycle clockwise from the Red LED
to the Blue, the storm is departing.
c. If the LED’s cycle counterclockwise from
the Blue LED to the Red LED, the Storm
is approaching.

BEEPER / VIBRATION INDICATION:
(Press and hold yellow button between 3 to 5
seconds). The detector is always in the “beeper”
mode when powered on. To change to “beeper &
vibration” mode, press the power button for approximately 3 to 5 seconds until the vibration is felt.
Stop pressing button immediately. The unit is now
in “beeper & vibration” mode.
Power Off:
(Press and hold the yellow button greater than
5 seconds.)
To turn the unit off, simply hold the button for
greater than 5 seconds until the vibration stops
and two beeps indicate the unit is off.
The unit will auto power off after two hours from
last lightning strike or period of inactivity.
NOTE: Detector may receive interference due to
cell phone towers, cell phones in use, motors,
engines and other electromagnetic sources.
All strikes, including cloud to cloud generate
EMP/RF radiation, but cloud to cloud strikes typically travel in a horizontal direction and therefore, if
you are located in a direction at the initiation (beginning) of the strike, the longitudinal radiation lines
generated by the lightning bolt, as it travels to the
other cloud, move downward to the ground and
upward into space and therefore the signal moving
toward your direction is substantially less and will
result in weaker detection.
