ExcessiveconnectionsbetweenMARSclientsandasingleCICunitcouldpotentially
affecttheperformanceoftheCICunit.Therefore,theMARSsystemimplementstwo
methodstolimitanegativeimpactonCICperformance.
CICConnectionLimits
CAUTION:
GEHealthcareprovidesnetworkservicestorecommendanappropriatenetwork
designtoensuretheperformanceoftheIXnetworkandtheCIC.DONOTconnect
additionalMARSclientstotheIXnetworkwithoutrstreviewingtheirimpactto
networkandCICperformancewithGEHealthcare.
TheCICInterfacelimitsthenumberofconcurrentconnections:nomorethanthree
(3)MARSclientscanconnecttoasingleCICunitconcurrently.BeforeaMARSclient
caninitiateadownloadfromaCIC,itmustverifythatitwillnotexceedthemaximum
numberofconnectionsforthatCIC.
Tomonitortheseconnections,theMARSsystemusesalecalledciclimit.ini,
locatedinthe\gemsit\var\MarsNT\systemdirectoryontheMARSserver.Forlarge
installationwithmultipleservers,oneisdesignatedastheprimaryserverandtherest
aredesignatedassecondaryservers.Theciclimit.inileisstoredonlyontheprimary
MARSserver;thesecondaryserverscontainalecalledcic.ini,whichidentiestheIP
addressoftheprimaryserver.
BeforeaMARSclientacquiresdatafromaCIC,itopenstheciclimit.inileandcounts
thenumberofMARSclientsalreadyconnectedtotheCIC.Ifthenumberofconnected
clientsisalreadyatthelimit,amessagedisplaysontheclientindicatingthatthelimit
hasbeenreached.Ifthenumberofconnectedclientsdoesnotexceedthelimit,the
clientaddsitsnametotheentryforthatCICandbeginsthedownload.Whenthe
downloadiscomplete,theMARSclientopenstheciclimitl.inileandremovesits
namefromtheentryforthatCICtofreeupthatCICforanotherconnection.
IftheconnectionbetweenaMARSclientandserverislost,theMARSclientwillnotbe
abletoupdateitsentryintheciclimit.inile.Tocorrectthis,themars_monacqmon

InadditiontolimitingthenumberofconcurrentMARSconnectionstoasingleCIC,the
CICInterfacealsocontrolstheowofFDdatatoconnectedMARSclients.
IfmultiplebedsareselectedforacquisitionfromasingleMARSclient,thedatais
acquiredsequentially.Thatis,thesecondbedisnotacquireduntiltherstbed
completes.Whilenetworkusageislonger,theamountofnetworkbandwidthused
isthesameasasinglebedacquisition.
IftwoormoreMARSclientsareacquiringbeddatafromdifferentCICsatthesame
time,thedataisacquiredsimultaneously.Thisusesalargeramountofnetwork
bandwidththanacquiringfromasingleCIC.
DuetothelargesizeofFDlesbeingtransmitted,ifmorethanoneMARSworkstation
isaccessingtheIXnetworkatthesametime,networkswitches,routers,andtrunks
mustbesizedcorrectlytohandletheadditionaltrafc.
TheWebUploadOption
TheWebUploadInterfaceisaMARSoptionthatallowsremoteclientstoacquireHolter
dataanduploadittoacentralMARSWebServer.WhentheMARSServerdetectsnew
HolterdataontheMARSWebServer,itcopiesthedataforanalysis,reporting,and
archiving.TheMARSWebUploadInterfaceisintendedtobeusedbyfacilitiesthatdo
nothavethepersonnel,resources,orbudgettoconducttheirowndataanalysis.

deletethereportordatalefromtheMARSsystem.Youcanrestorearchived
reportsanddatatotheMARSsystemfromthestoragelocation.Ifyouaresavingto
anetworkshare,MARSusersmusthavereadandwritepermissionstoit.
Archivesonnetworkandlocaldrivesarelimitedtoamaximumof5000records,
regardlessofavailablespaceonthedrives.Onceyoursystemreachesthislimit,

Theutilityalsofacilitatesreconguringthesystem’sslotlerepositorylocationand
allowsyoutoremoveslotleownership.Thisdocumentisintendedforaservice
personorMARSadministrator .
NOTE:
YoucannotusetheSlotFileToolwiththeMARSsystemrunning.Shutdownthe
MARSsystembeforeusingtheSlotFileTooltomakechangestotheslotles.
NOTE:
IfyouareusingtheSlotFileTooltodomaintenance,youshouldnotifyotherusers
sotheydonotusetheMARSsystemforacquisitionsatthesametime.
TheSlotFileToolusesMARSPCregistrydatato:

•VerifyiftheMARSPCisinstalledonaparticularmachine.
•VerifyiftheappropriatemodeofMARSPCisinstalled,becausethetoolcanrun
onlyonServerorStandalonemodes.
•LocatetheSlotFilesDirectory(default:<systemdrive>:\gemsit\slots)toloadand
displaythem.
YoucanusetheSlotFileTooltoperformthefollowingoperations:
•AddaspeciednumberofslotlestotheSlotFilesDirectory,whichMARSPCuses.
•Deleteaspeciednumberofslotles,aselectedle,orallemptyslotlesfrom
theSlotFilesDirectory.
•Deletetheownerofaspeciedslotle.
•ChangetheSlotFileDirectoryintheregistry,whichMARSPCuses.
TheSlotFileToolislocatedinthec:\gemsit\opt\MarsNt\bin\folder.Tolaunchthe
application,double-clickSlotFileTool.exe.

UnderstandingSlotFileSize,DiskCapacity,and
Performance
Beforeaddingslots,considertheamountofavailablestoragetheslotlesrequireand
howthenumberofslotlesmayaffectMARSsystemperformance.
WithMARSV8,slotlesarenolongerxedsizes.Eachslotlestartsoutat16KBand
growstotthedataasyouacquireit.Iftheexistingharddrivecapacityislimited,
usethefollowingDiskSizingguidelinestoestimatetheamountofmaximumspace
thedifferentslotlesuse.Planthetotalnumberofslotlesaccordingly,sothateven
ifallslotsareattheirmaximumsize,thereisstill5to10GBoffreedrivespaceleft
onthedrive.
Calculatingtheminimumdisksizeconsistsofthefollowingsteps:
1.Determinewhichletypesyouwillinstall
2.Determinethequantityforeachtype
3.Multiplythequantityforeachtypebythetype'smaximumlesize
4.Sumthetotals
5.Add20GBforOS,ancillaryapplications,andoverhead.
NOTE:
Asthenumberofslotlesincrease,itmaytakelongerforthePatientListtodisplay.
Thisismorenoticeableforworkstationsoperatingatthelowerrangeofthesystem
hardwarerequirements.Ifauser ,orusers,complainofslowperformanceafteradding
slotles,considerreducingthenumberofslots.
NOTE:

2.LocatetheSlotledirectoryfolderinthedialogbox.
TheAvailableandFreevaluesdisplayedunderDriveCapacityarenotusedinthe
MARSV8system.Thisinformationwasoriginallyintendedtoallowyoutosetalimit
ontheamountofdrivespaceavailablefortheSlotFiles.Withthedynamicnature
oftheslotlesintheMARSV8system,thisbecomesmoredifculttocalculate.
Additionalslotsarenotasubstituteforagoodarchivalprocess.MARSisnot
designed,andshouldnotbeused,forlong-termstorage.

Formostinstallations,theslotsfolderislocatedinc:\gemsit.
