INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the new ex•tend•it VDL•1000 by Gefen, Inc.
The VDL•1000 improves the quality of picture transmission over CAT5, CAT5e, or CAT6
UTP or STP cables and may be used with any extender . CA T5/6 cable has been optimized
for network data transmission and has four separate twisted pairs each with a different
number of turns per unit length to reduce crosstalk between pairs. This results in each
pair being a slightly different overall length.
When this type of cable is used for high quality video transmission, usually the Red, Green
and Blue signals are each sent down a separate pair (within one 4-pair cable). This may
have a signifi cant effect, similar to misconvergence, as signals take a slightly different
time to arrive at the receiving end and as a result suffer visible colour separation between
Red, Green and Blue.
This distortion is worse for higher resolution signals and is often called SKEW - the effects are removed by adding a short, wide bandwidth delay to the signals that arrive at
the monitor fi rst.
Adding the VDL•1000 frequently results in much clearer pictures.
The unit is placed in series with the monitor lead and has three separate delay lines, each
switchable with 4 binary bits of 3nS so the delay is adjustable from 0 to 45nS in 3nS increments.
The unit does not require a separate power supply.

WARRANTY
Gefen Inc. warrants the equipment it manufactures to be free from defects in
material and workmanship.
If equipment fails because of such defects and Gefen Inc. is notifi ed within two
(2) year from the date of shipment, Gefen Inc. will, at its option, repair or replace
the equipment, provided that the equipment has not been subjected to mechanical,
electrical, or other abuse or modifi cations.
Equipment that fails under conditions other than those covered will be repaired at the
current price of parts and labor in effect at the time of repair. Such repairs are warranted
for ninety (90) days from the day of reshipment to the Buyer.
This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied, including without
limitation, any implied warranty or merchantability or fi tness for any particular purpose,
all of which are expressly disclaimed.
1. Proof of sale may be required in order to claim warranty.
2. Customers outside the US are responsible for shipping charges to and from Gefen.
3. Copper cables are limited to a 30 day warranty and cable must be free from any
scratches, markings, and neatly coiled.
