FAST SWITCHING TECHNOLOGY

Fast Switching Technology

Basic OperationBasic Operation
Fast Switching Technology (FST) is a Gefen software implementation for HDMI products. FST was created to improve the lengthy HDMI authentication process, based on the HDMI and HDCP specications.
FST provides quicker audio/video source switching and greatly improves the overall audio/
video system behavior and performance when more than one HDTV display is used in the system setup.
FST allows connecting / disconnecting or turning ON / OFF of HDTV displays without
having these activities affect other Hi-Def sources routed to any other HDTV display in the same system.

Using Fast Mode

Use fast switching mode to improve performance when connecting / disconnecting Hi-Def sources, and powering ON / OFF HDTV displays.
1. Disconnect the power supply from the 4K Ultra HD 1:4 Splitter for HDMI.
2. Set the FST switch to the Fast (up) position.
3. Reconnect the power supply to the splitter.
If the FST switch is moved from the Slow position to the Fast position while the splitter is powered, then power-cycle the splitter by disconnecting and reconnecting the power supply in order for the change to take effect.

Using Slow Mode

When set to slow switching mode, the 4K Ultra HD 1:4 Splitter for HDMI will follow the standard authentication process, based on the HDMI and HDCP specications. Slow mode is recommended when the source does not support multiple devices.
Basic OperationBasic Operation
1. Disconnect the power supply from the splitter.
2. Set the FST switch to the Slow (down) position.

The 4K Ultra HD 1:4 Splitter for HDMI features a switch that will switch between 2-channel and multichannel audio output.
Basic OperationBasic Operation
Information
In order for the audio channel mode to be selected, the EDID switch must be set to the Int position. If the EDID switch is set to the Ext position, then the Audio switch will have no effect on the audio output signal. See Setting the EDID Mode (page 12) for more information.

Using 2-Channel Audio

Use this audio mode when all displays (and/or other sink devices) support only 2-channel LPCM audio.
1. Disconnect the power supply from the splitter.
2. Set the EDID switch to the Int (up) position.
3. Set the Audio switch to the 2ch (up) position.

FST
The 4K Ultra HD 1:4 Splitter for HDMI features EDID Management. Before the source can send video and/or audio to the display (sink), the source reads the EDID (Extended Display Identication Data) from the display (sink) devices connected to the splitter. The EDID
contains information about what type of audio/video data that the source can send to each
output device. The splitter can use either the downstream EDID (from the display/sink) or the built-in internal EDID.
Basic Operation

Using the Internal EDID

Use this EDID mode if problems are encountered when using the external EDID. The built-in internal EDID provides the source device with a “generic” EDID which can be used by all display (sink) devices. The use of the internal EDID also provides control of the audio output format. See Setting the Audio Channel Mode (page 10) for more
information.
1. Disconnect the power supply from the splitter.

Using the External EDID

When set to Ext mode, the splitter will fetch the EDID data of each display (or other sink device) that is connected to the splitter. Once this information is gathered, the splitter “builds” an EDID based on the highest video resolution and most superior audio format that is supported by all sink devices. This EDID is then transmitted to the source device.
1. Disconnect the power supply from the splitter.
2. Set the EDID switch to the Ext position.

Surface Mount Instructions

The 4K Ultra HD 1:4 Splitter for HDMI should be mounted vertically in a wall or cabinet with wood/drywall screws as shown in the diagram above. There should be an inch or two of clearance between the edges of the unit and any walls or vertical surfaces to allow for enough clearance for insertion and retraction of cables at the HDMI connectors.
Appendix
For installation on a drywall surface, use a #6 drywall screw. It is recommended when installing on a drywall surface that studs be used to secure the splitter should undue stress be applied when connecting and disconnecting HDMI cables.
