Microwave Terms
Arci.o Arcing is the microwave term tbr sparks in the oven. Arcing is
caused by:
o the metal shelf being installed incorrectly and touching the
n/icrow, lve walls.
o metal or toil touching the side of the oxen.
ico,,e i.o¸ L
i i i
iii
vo"ti,o
o toil that is not molded to tood (upturned edges act like
an[cnn_ls).
o metal such as twist ties, poultry pins, gold-rimmed dishes.
o recycled paper towels containing small metal pieces.
Covers hold in moisture, allow tot more even heating and reduce cooking time. Venting plastic wrap or covering with wax paper allows excess steam to escape.
In a regular oven, you shield chicken breasts or baked toods to prevent over-browning. When microwaving, you use small strips of %il to shield thin parts, such as tile tips of wings and legs on pouhry, which would cook betore larger parts.
¥\hen you cook with regular ovens, toods such as roasts or cakes are allowed to stand to finish cooking or to set. Standing time is especially important in microwave cooking. Nora that a microwaved cake is not placed on a cooling rack.
At_ter covering a dish with plastic wrap, you vent tile plastic wrap by
turning back one corner so excess stcan/c}ln escape.
