detected. This is inuenced by short-term temperature uctuations. These variations will result in changes in the temperature prole across the pipe wall.

With temperature variations at rates less then 1°C (2°F) per minute over a 5°C (10°F) range, the resolution is improved to the value obtained using regression analysis. Reading errors due to short-term uctuations are removed after taking a series of readings over time and
performing a regression analysis.
