1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 CARE AND MAINTENANCE
General
• The Wound Kits are constructed of material that
approximates skin texture. Therefore, in handling
the model, use the same gentle techniques
as you would in working with a patient.
WOUND KITS | User Guide
• Operating temperature after the
wounds are cured on the simulator skin
should be 50°- 95° F (10°- 35° C).
• Humidity: 5%-95% (non-condensing).
• Do not wrap this or any other
Gaumard product in newsprint.
• Indelible marks made with ballpoint pens,
ink, or marker cannot be removed.
• Do not use acetone, Betadine® or any
other antiseptic, which contains iodine
in the Wound Kits. These products could
damage or stain the skin of the simulator.
• The bonding agent, used to attach the
overlay wounds, is a skin safe silicone
that can be used on human skin.
• Excessive amounts of adhesive may
aect the integrity of the material.
Cautions
• Treat the simulator with the same
precautions used with a real patient.
• Have providers wash their hands prior to use to
prevent dirt and oils from clinging to the material.
Storage
• Store the simulator in a cool, dry place
between 50°- 85° F (10°- 29° C).
• Humidity: 40%-60% (non-condensing)
• Do not stack or store heavy materials on
top of the box or case. Store the wound
kit in the clear bag or case provided.
Cleaning
• Remove all traces of lubricant from the wound
kit items at the end of each simulation session
• The items should be cleaned with a cloth
dampened with diluted liquid dishwashing soap.
• The wound kit items are waterproof. They
can be submerged in water as long as
they are not attached to the simulator.
• Do not clean with harsh abrasives.
• Dry thoroughly after every cleaning.
• Do not palpate using fingernails as this may tear
the skin: palpate using the pads of the fingers.
Operating Conditions
• Using the wound bonding agents
outside of these ranges may aect
their performance and the durability of
the application during procedures.
• Operating temperature when working
with the wound bonding kit should
be 75°- 95° F (10°- 35° C).

WOUND KITS | User Guide
2. INITIAL SETUP
Most wounds included in wound kits are
overlay wounds, which need a bonding agent
to attach them to the simulator skin.
Exceptions include:
Tibial compound fracture for the Pediatric 5 year old
2.1 WOUND BONDING KIT
The Skin Tite™ silicone adhesive/appliance
builder is used to attach the overlay wounds to
a section of the simulator. The bonding agent
is a two- part (Part A and Part B) silicone mix.
The mixing ratio is 1:1 by volume or by weight.
This bonding agent is a skin safe silicone that
adheres to the silicone and perfectly conforms
to all contours. Wounds and appliances will
not come o until they are peeled o.
PACKAGE CONTENTS
» Bonding Agent Part A container (1)
» Bonding Agent Part B container (1)
» Tongue Depressors (3)
Intramuscular pad wound inserts
Wound sleeves
» Pair of Gloves (1)
Additional items required are a cup for
mixing the two bonding agents and alcohol
wipes to clean the work surface.
NOTE: Gloves should be used during mixing
and placement of overlay wounds.
Working with the Wound Bonding Kit
1. Clean the surface of the simulator and overlay
wound with alcohol wipes. Pour the desired
amount of Part A in a cup or container.
Initial Setup | 5
WOUND KITS | User Guide
2. Pour the same amount of Part B in the same cup
3. Mix contents using a tongue depressor
making sure to scrape down the sides
and the bottom of the container.
2.2 INTRAMUSCULAR (IM)
PAD WOUND INSERT
1. Remove the existing IM injection
pad located on the simulator.
2. Align the edges and insert the IM pad
wound and gently press it into the cavity.
4. Apply a thin layer of the bonding agent mix
using the tongue depressor on the section of
the simulator where the overlay wound will
be applied, then gently place the wound onto
the bonding agent using mild pressure.
NOTE: The wound bonding agent may also be
applied to the wound itself for more control.
• Allow 5 minutes of curing time. The left-
over mixture in the cup is an indicator
if the bonding agent has cured.
• When detaching the overlay wound, gently pull
it o the simulator and clean the used surfaces
using diluted alcohol or diluted soapy water.
2.3 TIBIAL COMPOUND
FRACTURE ASSEMBLY
This wound is only intended to be used
with the Pediatric 5 year old.
1. Gently remove the foot bolt from the
lower leg with two allen wrenches.
6 | Initial Setup
WOUND KITS | User Guide
2. Remove the knee bolt from the leg
with the allen wrench and gently lift the
healthy lower leg from the socket.
3. Align the tibial compound fracture lower leg
into the socket and secure the knee bolt.
4. Align the foot into its socket and
secure it with the foot bolt.
2. Roll the edge of the wound sleeve
back and place it around the arm.
3. Continue rolling the sleeve up
the arm until it is in place.
NOTE: If the wound sleeve and arm are sticking, add
alcohol or lubricant to the inside of the wound sleeve
to ease insertion and avoid damage to the item.
