2. Information concerning
the instructions
Read these instructions carefully and observe the information contained in them. Acquaint your­self with the use of the unit, the adjustments and observe the safety instructions.

For safety reasons, chil-
dren under the age of 16 as well as people, who are not ac­quainted with the instructions should not use the Grass Shears / Grass Cutter.
Keep these instructions in a safe place.
3. Introduction
This unit is part of a comprehen­sive garden programme from GARDENA, the accu-system V12. In order to operate this product, you need additional items from the accu-system V12 range:
1. Power supply: accu-system V12 Accu A 12, Art. No. 2109, or accu-system V12 Accu-Pack AP 12, Art. No. 2110

2. Charging unit: accu-system V12 Battery Charger NL 12, Art. No. 2105 (for Accu A 12 and Accu-Pack AP 12)
accu-system V12 High-Speed Battery Charger SL 60, Art. No. 2100
(only for Accu-Pack AP 12, Art. No. 2110)
4. Proper use
The GARDENA Grass Shears and Grass Cutter have been designed for cutting grass edges and small grass areas in private gardens.
These appliances are for private use only and are not designed for use in public places, parks, sports arenas, street-scapes, in agriculture or forestry.
It is absolutely necessary to ob­serve the manufacturer’s operating instructions to ensure the unit’s proper functioning. These instruc­tions also contain hints on service, maintenance and repair.

Attention! For safety rea-
sons the Grass Shears / Grass Cutter should not be used for trimming hedges or for chopping material for composting.
5. Initial Operation (Fig. A- E)
5.1 How to click-in / remove the Accu (Fig. B)
Snap the Accu (11) into the attach­ment part (1). Make sure that the Accu has been snapped in properly. Listen for a “click” when doing this.
The Accu (11) can be released from the unit by simultaneously pressing in the two orange locking buttons (4) on the handle (5) or on the Accu-Pack if you are using the AP 12.
Please read the operating instruc­tions of Accu A 12 / Accu-Pack AP 12.
5.2 Operation (Fig. A/A1) Grass Shears RS 10
Simultaneously press the on/off switch (2) and the safety switch (3). The safety switch (3) can be re­leased having started the Grass Shears. When releasing the on /off switch (2), the Grass Shears will switch off automatically.

The unit is switched on by pressing the on/off switch (2) at the handle (5). When releasing the on /off switch (2), the Grass Shears / Grass Cutter will switch off auto­matically.

The safety devices installed
on the unit by the manu­facturer must not be removed or by-passed, e. g. by binding the on/off switch to the handle, as there is risk of injury!
Do not operate the unit with an external power source!
Caution! The blades take a while to stop running after the unit has been switched off.

5.3 Working position (Fig. C) Just hold unit at the handle (5) and push Grass Shears RS 10 / RL 10 along on its sled for grass edges and lawn surfaces.The Grass Cutter RL 20 is equipped with wheels (8) and an additional guide handle (9) enabling ease of use.
5.4 Cutting lawn edges and difficult areas (Fig. D)
For a vertical cut hold the Grass Shears RL 10 with both hands and turn the unit into cutting position. The additional guide handle on the Grass Cutter RL 20 ensures safe handling and pushing especially for a lateral cut.

The guide handle can be adjusted by releasing the adjustment knob (10), and tightening, when the desired position is achieved.
5.5 Cutting Grass against walls, trees and fences (Fig. E)
Slide the Grass Shears / Grass Cutter with the outer side of the cutting blade along hard objects and surfaces.
6. Maintenance / Service / Storage
The GARDENA Grass Shears and Grass Cutter are largely main­tenance-free.
Please make sure that the con­tacts of the attachment part (1) and of the Accu (11) are always clean.
Grass and dirt should be removed with a dry rag or brush.
The Grass Shears / Grass Cutter should be cleaned thoroughly before and after use, and the cutting blades lubricated with a biodegrad­able oil. This improves the cutting performance. Never grease cutting
blades! Repairs may only be performed
by GARDENA Service Centres or by dealers authorised by GARDENA.

Attention! Always remove
the Accu before working on the Grass Shears / Grass Cutter. Risk of injury!
Due to risk of injury to persons and/or product damage, do not clean the Grass Shears / Grass Cutter under running water, especially under high pressure.
Store the Grass Shears / Grass Cutter in a dry, frost-free place. Keep out of the reach of children.
Always cover the blades with the protective sheath (7) for storage.
Observe the manufacturer’s installation hints when exchang­ing the cutting blades.
Exchanging the cutting blades
Only use the original GARDENA Spare Blades, Art. No. 2346.
These blades can be obtained at your GARDENA dealer or directly from the GARDENA service centre.
Never use spare parts and ac­cessories which have not be designed by the manufacturer.
