S3 XX
Your El Superiores Serial number is
located on the backside punched into the Solid wood.
Your serial no. Is:
On the S3, as seen on this page, you will find the serial number between the port opening and the terminal board
On the S9, S8, S7 & S5. All having two port openings, the serial number is located
in between
these two port-openings on the back side.
Setting up: Guide Lines
Three basic elemets must be optimized to get the maximum performance from your El Superiores:
1. Speaker Positioning
2. Tilting (the angle relative to vertical) and Toe (the angle relative to pointing straight forward)
3. The Listening position
Before Finding these positions and making adjustments, it must be understood that any speaker performance will be negatively influenced when not positioned correctly. Please follow the instructions to obtain the best possible performance.
Load effects caused by the room dimensions are compensated in the speaker design, meaning that
theEl Superiores are optimized to perform their
best in rooms of normal dimensions. A very small room, extremely large rooms or open spaces will give less than optimum performance.
The Speaker Positioning and the Listening position are the first things to find. These postions are easily explained as the positions in the room where the least amount of negative room influence is observed.
With no diffusion or damping of the reflections, a
minimum distance to walls is recommended to be
1 meter (approximately 3’4”). With diffusion or
damping of reflections a position closer to walls can be acceptable. More importantly, larger distances to walls will improve the overall performance.
The minimum Listening distance is recommended to 2.0m for the S3 & S5, 2,5m for the S7 and 3.0m for the S8 & S9. The minimum spacing between the speakers we recommend to be 2.0m for the S3 & S5 & 2,5m for the S7, S8 & S9.
Setting up: Calculating Positions
Calculating the position of your El Superiores and the
Listening position is quite simple. First measure the dimensions of your room and fill in the numbers in the diagram below. Divide these dimensions with 3 or 5 or 7 as indicated & follow the sketch below.
If you are having a non rectangular room, the primary
consideration is to obtain the minimum distances to all walls, the spacing between speakers and the listening distance. Try to set up the speakers in uneven fractions of the room dimensions, as done in rectangular rooms.
Setting up: Features & pre-cautions
All El Superiores speakers are equipped with a non resonant stainless steel spike system. The
Spike system makes it possble to adjust the vertical and
horisontal tilt of the speaker, to compensate for floor
conditions and optimize the sonic performance to the preferred listening position.
Floor protective devices are supplied with all El Superiores to save delicate hard surface floors from harm. Place them underneath the spikes to protect your floors
The spikes on the S9 require an 8 mm Allen-Key /Unbrako-Key for adjustment.
Other El Superiores speakers require a 6 mm Allen Key/ Unbraco-Key for adjustment
Use the spike system to align your El Superiores horisontally and vertically and followingly position your speakers pointing straight forward with no Toe-in
It is now time to connect to your amplifier & run in your speakers, see connections page 8.
Your EL Superiores are pre-run in and will perform decently out of the box, but will require a period of
minimum 20 hours at high listening volume, preferably on music with a good powerfull bass content, before we recommend to fine tune the setup
For maximum performance the speakers will need app. 200 Hours of run in time, and aging of min. 6 months in normal light and humidity conditions for all materials to settle.
Setting up: Connections
When using a single pair of wires, use the woofer negative input & the tweeter positive input.
When using Bi-Wiring or Bi-Amping
(two pairs of wires or two amplifiers):
remove the two bridging plates.
The tweeter inputs:
The top terminal is the NEGATIVE input and the second terminal from the bottom is the POSITIVE input for the tweeter

Setting up: Optimizing the Sonic Performance
After run in it is time to fine tune the performance
of your speakers.
The positioning in the room, the toe-in and the
vertical tilt of the speakers are all elements that lets you adjust the bass, midrange and treble and optimize the dynamic and 3-dimensional size & character of the recording room, instruments & voices.
The positioning in the room determines the Low
frequency character (Bass performance). In general the bass output will increase by moving the speaker closer to walls and less bass will be achieved by moving the speaker away from walls.
The El Superiores are designed to work in normal rooms so a position too far from walls will result in
the upper bass/lower mid being too low in level. A position too close to walls will result in too much upper bass and lower midrange overexadjurating male voice and drums etc.
Vertical Tilting of the speaker will adjust the
dynamic character of the speaker. A forward vertical tilt of the speaker will cause the tweeter signals to arrive earlier than the midrange signal. A
too bright and ”agressive” character will be the
result if tilted too far forward. If tilted too far back, a too laid back and dull character will be the result
Toe-in adjusts the level of high frequencies (treble).
We have designed our speakers to be listened to at an angle from 10-30 degrees off axis. Depending on the acoustic character of your room the high frequency level can be adjusted by simply turning the speaker towards the listening position to enhance the higher frequencies (treble), or you can lower the high frequency content by turning the speaker away from the listening position (pointing closer to straight forward).

El Superiores Product highlights
Enclosure Construction:
Form pressed Solid wood over multi layered Finnish Birch plywood. This construction in itself has a subjective more pleasing harmonic
structure than solid wood alone or solid MDF.
Form pressing minimizes the need for panel damping by leaving an inherent force in the structure that in itself causes faster decay of non wanted vibration. The internal fan shaped reinforcement structure in combination with the externally machined Canals in the solid wood, divides the side walls in separate segments with less vibration differentiated to multiple frequencies, resulting in a minimum of colouration.
Internal acoustics:
The internal pressure is guided and controlled by the fan shaped reinforcement structure, and a full height vertical reinforcement structure. These critically positioned structures time aligns the coupling to the port openings and holds the internal acoustic dampening material to achieve an optimum of dynamic linearity simultaneously with a well damped acoustic environment.
Port openings
are machined solid brass threaded into solid stainless steel held in solid wood This design eliminates resonance by the port structure itself, increases the accuracy of the tuning and minimizes port turbulence and noise.
The connection terminals
are solid stainless steel over brass and Gold plated OFC copper. The Terminals are designed to minimize contact resistance by optimizing the surface contact area by using striped wire. The terminals also accept Banana plugs, or custom spades.
The front cover
is designed to have no audible influence on the performance. We use solid stainless steel side rods, and a high quality fabric woven rubber strings to protect the drivers.
The floor coupling
devices are designed to be non resonant, by adding rubber dampening rings inserted into the stainless steel base plates (S9), or by having a rubber pad adding force into the spike itself, thereby eliminating resonance of the combined structure. Hard Floor protective coupling devices are supplied with the speakers, assuring best possible protection of delicate floors
El Superiores Product highlights
The 85kg stainless steel base
for the S9 is chosen to lower the point of gravity to optimize stability. Other S series are designed with wider spike positioning resulting in same relative levels of stability, The spike systems are all solid stainless steel
Drivers: specially designed & optimized for the El Superiores.
-Special fluent rubber damped solid wood inserts are used in the S8 and
S9 bass drivers, and a hand applied mass load is used in the S7 woofers to optimize the acoustic behaviour and dynamic accuracy of the bass system.
-Midrange drivers are receiving a specially developed hand applied treatment of the cone structure that minimizes colouration and optimizes the natural reproduction of voices and instruments.
The NRLI network. Our Non resonant Linked Impulse solution:
-NRLI is designed to operate in the time-domain and perform resonance control.
-NRLI aligning the drive-units impulse wise
-NRLI is optimizing the resonant behaviour of the individual drivers and
the network itself .
DC coupled midrange: DCCM
-The DCCM purpose is to eliminate the phase shift between the midrange and woofers seen in conventional network designs.
-The DC coupling means that the midrange driver is directly connected to the amplifier, not using a capacitor to filter the low frequencies.
-The DCCM filtering (attenuation) of low frequencies is done by using a combination of series and parallel layout of the network, thereby
achieving the attenuation of the lower frequencies without adding phase
shift to the midrange signals.
The GamuT “WormHoles” cables
A new GamuT development.
-The “WormHoles” optimizes the impulse behaviour and controls the resonant character of the Cable load
-The “WormHoles” design minimizes the influence by the electric insulation
-The design consists of individual insulated conductors, with a special surrounding woven material.
-The “WormHoles” design weaves two individual wires into one single pair of wires.
-The “WormHoles” proprietary design minimizes stored energy in the cable, and diversifies it away from the signal path
-The Benefit: Transparency, Clarity & Freedom of coloration and resonance.
The protective strings
in the front cover are made from elastic bands covered with a woven Fabric.
Use a cleaning
agent suited for synthetic materials
Stainless steel is used as the general material for all non treated metallic surfaces.
Exceptions are the Gold plated terminal parts & the Solid Aluminium Port(s) for the S3, S5, SC5, S7 & S8, and the Solid Brass Ports for the S9.
Use dedicated cleaning agents
on a soft cloth to
clean.
Maintenance
Solid Hard wood Oil &Wax treated enclosures.
To preserve the delicate wood surfaces intact, it is needed to oil or wax the wood surfaces on a regular basis.
Not doing so may open up the wood caused by the wood shrinking.
Re-Oiling dryed wood will in most cases close the openings in the wood.
Use a Clean lint free cloth to oil and clean the
enclosure.
Any dedicated wood oil or our GamuT wood oil may be used to keep the wood saturated and in perfect condition
