About the GamuT CD 3
Design considerations
The cabinet is a rigid construction with use of massive and genuine high grade materials, such as Aluminum and stainless steel. This does not only contribute to the touch and feel factor, but is essential for a long lasting life even in a tough environment.
A GamuT product is build to be used daily and we expect our product to be in the “fi eld” for many years to come.
Under normal circumstances the CD 3 should not need inspection or service for quite a while. Should you experience break down or worn parts, these are easily replaceable or repairable and our service partners around the world would be happy to help.
Electrical circuitry considerations
All components used in the CD 3 are of the highest quality and have been selected through intensive listing sessions from the PCB itself over the non-magnetic chassis to the legendary Neutrik XLR connectors.
The CD 3 is based on following Gamut specialties:
Double suspended mehcanism
Soft coupled feet suspend the complete chassis
Internally shielding devides the chassis internally into three seperate cabinets
Sound and vibration damped mechanism
Separate power supply for control circuit and audio circuits
Internal cabling by “Van den hul” high quality cable
Digital output with 75 ohm termination option
Very powerful power supply with high bandwith and low impedance
Unpacking
Carefully cut open the box with a knife. Remove the cables from the carton and lift up the CD 3 from inside the box. Remove the protective plastic enclosing the amplifi er. Please be careful not to place the CD 3 on the front panel or bend the various terminals on the backside when doing so.
Remove the protective tape assuring placement of the tray during transport. The tray is not locked when inside the player and the player is not connected to mains, by turning the player up side down the tray will open. It is therefore crutial that you ensure remounting of the piece of adhesive tape
again if transport is needed later on!
Please keep the packaging material in a safe place as it might come in handy later.

CD 3
Placement
The CD 3 will get hot during use. It is important that it has free space all around the player, especially sides and the top.
Please make sure that there is at least 10 cm (4 inches) of free space all around the CD player.
Connecting to the mains
Your CD 3 has been especially made for the country to which it has been shipped. Any attempt to change the voltage or other types of modifi cations should be considered unsafe and may cause dam- age to both the CD player and any connected equipment. Warranty is annulled by any form of modifi - cation performed by any person not authorised by GamuT.
Connect the CD 3 to the mains supply with the supplied IEC mains cable.
For further improvements to the level of sound quality, various types of mains cable type may be tested. Like the importance of any other cable in the system, the quality and refi nement of the mains cable has an infl uence on the total balance of the sound. Please feel free to experiment with the various brands available in your country. Please note that GamuT cannot accept responsibility for damage incurred due to improper usage, connection, or manufacture of other cables than the enclosed.
The mains switch is located underneath the amplifi er’s front right corner. When the CD player is switched on, the display will illuminate and you will hear two small clicks from inside the CD player.

Connecting to other equipment
The GamuT CD 3 features three types of outputs:
Outputs
Balanced Left and right analog output
Unbalanced Left and right anlog output
Coaxial S-PDIF output
XLR pin connection of the balanced in- and outputs
Ground
1.
Positive
2.
Negative
3.
Some other brands have Pin # 2 and 3 reversed. They will work together with your CD 3, but the absolute phase will be reversed. You can solve this by reversing the wires in the male plug of your balanced interconnects.
The coaxial digital output has a little switch attached to it, which makes it possible to terminate the output with a load 75 ohm when not in use. Simply push the lever up when it is not connected and down towards “open” when you wish to connect the CD 3 to a separate D/A converter or digital recorder.
The 75 ohm termination will ensure optimal load of the digital output circuit when not in use. It will improve the quality of the internal digital signal that gets converted in the internal D/A converter.
Please refeer to the section “technical quality” for output level and impedances.
If you like all the outputs has its own circuitry and buffers, which enables the possibility of using all the outputs at the same time. So If you need to connect the CD player with f.ex. two amplifi ers in two different room or setups, you can use the balanced for one and the unbalanced the second.

Burn-in and warm up
Burn-in
All new electronic equipment must be burned in to achieve optimum performance. Please allow the new CD player to burn in by playing music with the loudspeakers connected for one hundred hours before critical listening is performed.
Warm up
Please allow the CD player and other audio equipment to warm up prior to serious listening. Expect at least one hour of warming before optimum performance can be achieved.
Maintenance
To ensure long-lasting durability and to prevent magnetic infl uence on the electronics, the cabinet is made from stainless steel and aluminum.
For cleaning the cabinet, use a dry cloth and wipe dust away. If needed, moisturise the cloth with a small amount of window cleaning dissolvent.
Be very careful not the scratch the mirror display at the front.
Do not use any other type of cleaning material or polish, as you may destroy the cabinet’s protective coating.

Every musical note…
Congratulations! You have just invested in one of the fi nest CD player available!
Many years ago, we chose the word “GamuT” to be our company name. This single phrase in Latin means ‘a complete array’ or ‘an all-encompassing spectrum’. In our case, it refers to the entire range of musical notes.
The GamuT name therefore fi ts our philosophy perfectly: Our goal is not missing out on one single element among the myriads of tiny bits of information that create a realistic sound experience.
There are many more things to reproducing music than just reproducing the individual musical tones. But it is the complex spectrum of multiple individual tones created by the musicians’ instruments and voices, and not least the refl ected signals thereof that create the sounds we detect with our ears and send to our brain to give us the wonderful sensations only music is capable of. It is Gamut´s mission to give to you these unique musical feelings.
As with every GamuT product, our amplifi ers are designed with the capability of giving you the best possible musical experience, which is synonymous with reproducing all of the essential information in the recording to create the illusion of “being there”.
To ensure this, we use only the best “raw materials” trimmed and crafted to perfection by the best engineers and sound enthusiasts in the industry.
Following the guidance lines in this manual will assure you of an exquisite sound experience, so be ready for “the entire range of musical notes”
We wish you years of proud ownership and happy listening. We feel confi dent that you will cherish this amplifi er for both its amazingly clear reproduction as well as for its splendid craftsmanship and beautiful appearance.
Should you have any questions or other matters that you would like to share with us, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We will look very much forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes
