MIDI
MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. This is a world wide standard communication interface that enables electronic musical instruments and computers (of all brands) to communicate with each other so that instructions and other data can pass between them. This exchange of information makes it possible to create a system of MIDI instruments and devices that oers far greater versatility and control than is available with isolated instruments. Whether you interface with computers, sequencers, expanders or other pianos your Suzuki piano’s technical capabilities, and your musical horizons will be greatly enhanced.
MIDI Connection
MIDI Channels
The MIDI terminals are located on the bottom right portion of the piano.
MIDI In: This terminal receives MIDI data from an external MIDI device.
MIDI Out: This terminal transmits data from this instrument to other MIDI devices.
The transmitted data includes the note and touch velocity produced while playing on the piano, as well as voice changes, wheel operation, and recorded playback for the melody tracks. Demo songs and auto accompaniment are not transmitted.
USB: The USB connector allows you to connect the piano directly to your computer’s USB port for MIDI application. Message transmitted and received through USB is the same as MIDI. It can connected without driver installation under the Windows and MAC OSX environment. The piano will be recognized as USB Audio device to receive and transmit MIDI messages.
The MIDI system in this unit has 16 channels numbered from 1–16. Each of the channels is responsible for a voice. When the instrument receives from an external device, the active channel is determined by the control message. The transmission channels on this piano are xed as follows: Channel 1: Master voice Channel 2: Layer voice Channel 3: Split voice Channel 4: Bass in manual bass chord mode Channel 7: Chord in manual bass chord mode Channel 10: Percussion sound

Basic MIDI Setups
Output to an external sound generator – MIDI pianos transmit note and velocity
(touch sensitivity) information via the MIDI Out connector. Connect the MIDI Out terminal of the piano and the MIDI IN terminal of an external device, piano, synthesizer, or sound module, and the external device should respond to your playing.
By connecting this piano to another piano in this way you can essentially play two instruments at the same time or play on your piano to the sound of another MIDI devise to produce thick, layered multi–instrument sounds.
Output from an external MIDI device – Connect the MIDI In terminal of the piano and the MIDI Out terminal of an external device. Data generated on another device are passed through your pianos sound delivery system.
Connect with an computer – Although the piano ofers a built in sequencer, the music recorder is a real–time ve track sequencer, the same type of musical information transfer that is described above can be used for more sophisticated MIDI sequence recording using an external sequencer or computer. These devices can be used to record MIDI data received from this piano. You can transmit your performance to a computer to utilized advanced recording, composing and editing available from software on the computer. MIDI music stored on the computer can be played back through your instrument.
MIDI Local Control Mode – Local control refers to the fact that normally, this piano controls the internal tone generator. This is the normal play mode. Local control can be turned o, so that the piano does not play the internal voices, however, the MIDI information is still transmitted via the MIDI Out connector when notes are played on the piano. At the same time, the internal tone generator can respond to MIDI data received via the MIDI In connector.
MIDI Input Channel Selection – You may select an individual MIDI channel to receive MIDI data on. The power up default setting is the OMNI mode which receives MIDI data on all channels.
MIDI Split Input Lower Channel Mode – This MIDI input channel mode is used to select which MIDI input channel you want to receive for the lower split piano MIDI data. The previous MIDI input mode will receive the upper split piano data.
MIDI Output Channel Selection – You may select an individual MIDI channel to transmit MIDI data on. The power up default setting to transmit MIDI data is channel 1.
MIDI Slit Output Lower Channel Mode – This MIDI output channel mode is used to select which MIDI output channel that you want to transmit on for the lower split piano data. This MIDI data can be sent separately on a discrete MIDI channel. The previous MIDI input mode will transmit the upper split piano data. The default setting for this mode transmits on channel two.

iPad Connection
 You can buy and download the GarageBand app, which is a virtual recording
studio, and use it to record and arrange music.
1. Plug the included iPad adapter into your iPad.
2. Plug the USB cable into the iPad adapter and the other end into the Piano’s USB Port.
3. Plug the audio cable into the iPad’s Headphone Jack.
4. Plug the other end of the audio cable into the Piano’s Audio In Jacks.
You can connect your piano to your iPad, and convert it into a recording studio - which will probably result in a lot more practice and playing time, and also a lot more fun in the process. If you have kids who are learning piano it might make all the dierence in encouraging them to practice, without it even seeming as if that’s what they are doing.
 You can download software versions of dierent organs and synthesizers, and
also drum kits, and control the sounds and parameters from the touch screen.
 You can download from a variety of how to play piano apps, that add fun and
learning to piano instruction.
