Installation and User Instructions for S822 Encoders
The S822 encoder is used to encode
blank HID i smart cards to
the "smartMAX" format, or to reencode existing "smartMAX" format
i cards.

Insert the jack plug
into the box on the
end of the encoder

serial port of a PC
installed with the SMS
software. Set up the port
in the Install/Client Ports
screen of the SMS
software.
Insert the power

the end of the
encoder cable

mains supply.

Encoding Procedure
To encode a card:
1. Log in to the SMS software at the PC that the encoder is connected to.
2. Start the encoding procedure from the appropriate screen in the SMS software. For example, if
you are using a standard client, use the button in .

When prompted, present the card to the encoder. You will hear a "bleep" when the card has

LEDs:
- Lit when power is supplied to the encoder.
Red
- Lit when the encoder has received data.
Green
Sounder:
Beeps once when the card has been encoded successfully.
