1. Mounting Bracket Locations
For 16'-18' doors three mounting brackets will be used. Mark a line in the center above the door where the trellis is to be mounted. Mark two
more lines on either side of the center line at a distance of 96" (See diagram below). For 8'-9' doors two mounting brackets will be used. Mark
a line in the center above the door where the trellis is to be mounted. Mark two more lines on either side of the center line at a distance of
48". Determine the height that the beams are to be mounted above the door. The bottom edge of the angle bracket should be 1/8" below this
determined height. Mark each bracket location for reference later.
2. Angle Bracket Installation
A fastener with a diameter of at least a 5/16" should be used to attach the angle brackets to the mounting surface. Attach angle brackets
using the marks made in the previous step.
3. Preparing the Beams for Installation
Before installing the beams they must be cut to the proper lengths. Below is a chart showing the recommended beam lengths based on door
size. Measure each beam, 2 left side and 2 right side, and cut them to the length.

4. Drilling Holes in Beams
Position the U-shaped strap brackets on the ground centering each bracket at the same center location that the angle brackets were marked
in Step 1. Place all four beams into the U-shaped strap brackets as if they were going to be installed. The joint end of each beam should
split the U-shaped strap. After U-shaped strap brackets are properly located, clamps should be used to hold the U-shaped strap bracket in
place while drilling and marking. Using a 3/8" diameter drill bit drill through the holes in the U-shaped strap brackets and into the beams as
far as possible. This can only be done on the face of the front beams and the rear of the back beams. Using the holes in the U-shaped strap
brackets, marks must be made on the inside of the beams as references. After all possible holes are drilled and all of the inside holes are
marked, the beams may be taken out of the U-shaped strap brackets. Use the marks made on the inside edges of the beams to drill through
the beams the rest of the way. The holes on the inside of the beams may have to be enlarged slightly for the holes to line up.
5. Mounting the Beams
Note: For 8’ - 9’ door kit, follow below procedure, omitting center U-shaped strap bracket.
A) (For the 16'-18' door kit) Using the 5/16"-18 x 5" hex head bolts, 5/16" lock washers and 5/16"-18 hex nuts, bolt the left and the center
U-shaped strap brackets to the left side back beam. Do not completely tighten the nuts as this will allow for any adjustment required later.
B) This assembly can now be bolted to the angle brackets mounted in Step 2 using the 3/8"-16 x 2 ½" hex head bolts, 3/8" lock washers, and
3
/8"-16 hex nuts supplied. Do not tighten them completely as this will allow for any adjustments that may be needed later. Using the 5/16"
hex head bolts, lock washers and hex nuts, bolt the right U-shaped strap bracket to the right side back beam. Slide the square end of the

right side back beam into the center U-shaped strap bracket. Attach the right U-shaped strap bracket to the corresponding angle bracket
using the 3/8" hex head bolts, lock washers, and hex nuts supplied. Using the 5/16" hex head bolts, lock washers and hex nuts attach the
right side back beam to the center U-shaped strap bracket.
C) The front beams can now be installed using the 5/6" hex head bolts, lock washers and nuts supplied. Make sure that the 5/16" bolts with the
painted heads are used to secure the front two beams. Once all of the beams are installed all of the nuts should be fully tightened.
6. Rafter Tail and Bracket Mounting
Attach rafter tails to the beams using adhesive and fasteners. The recommended on-center space for the rafter tails is 16". The brackets
should be placed about 12" away from the edge of the opening and should butt up to the bottom of the beams and attached to the mounting
surface using a fastener adequate for the application.
7. Finishing
All exposed fastener heads can be countersunk and filled with exterior wood putty. Allow the filler to cure then sand flush to the millwork
surface. Caulk any gaps with a good quality exterior caulk. Touch up any repaired areas with the desired stain or paint.
NOTE: None of the polyurethane parts should be used for structural purposes.
General Installation Notes
Any adhesives, sealants, fillers or paint used must be compatible with the material that is being installed (see manufacturer’s recommendations in the
Finishing and Adhesives section below). Always use corrosion-resistant mechanical nails or screws along with manufacturer’s recommended adhesive
product when installing all Fypon products. This combination provides a secure, long-lasting bond. Countersink all fasteners about 1/8" and fill with
product compatible filler. Exterior installations should be finished using a manufacturer’s recommended caulk to prevent water infiltration behind
siding, windows and doors. Some exterior installations, in particular new construction before siding is applied, may require a J-channel and/or
flashing to prevent water infiltration. Installers must determine which installation technique is best for the specific situation.
Finishing and Adhesives
Polyurethane (PUR) – Fypon polyurethane products are factory primed. Depending on product location, always use interior/exterior-grade, PUR
compatible adhesives, sealants, and fillers when installing Fypon products. Consult the manufacturer’s recommendations for your particular
climate and the substrate you are installing to.
Cellular PVC – Depending on product location, always use interior/exterior-grade, PVC compatible adhesives, sealants, and fillers when installing
Fypon products. Consult the manufacturer’s recommendations for your particular climate and the substrate you are installing to. If painting is
desired, a 100% acrylic latex paint with a Light Reflectance Value (LRV) of 55% or higher must be used. Applying paint with an LRV of 54% or
lower will void the warranty.

Please read these installation guidelines thoroughly before beginning installation. Please note that these guidelines are provided only to assist with the installation of Fypon moulding
and millwork products. Modified procedures may be required in order to meet specific situations, unique applications and local building codes. The manufacturer does not, under any
circumstances, warrant the installation of its products. Be sure to wear appropriate protective clothing, gloves and safety glasses when working with any tools. Installer should check
for and relocate all electrical wiring within the proposed installation area, as needed (be sure to disconnect all electric power before working with any electrical wiring and follow all
applicable local electrical codes and safety procedures).
