3 General device description
(basic device description)
DLP 3D DWARF printer uses Stereolithography printing technology, thus gradual hardening of photo-reactive resin, so called photopolymer. As a light source serves UV lamp with DLP chip. In this case a DLP projector manufactured by ACER, this device has enclosed Confirmation of Conformity in writing. Print platform moves on console, which is driven on vertical Z-axis by trapezial bolt. Accurate movement is secured by linear leading. Movement is provided by stepping motor. Second stepper moves via eccentric lead of tank holder. Both these stepping motors are powered by voltage in amount of 12V. Voltage 12V is provided by power supply hs-60-12 (http://wifi.aspa.cz/prumyslovy-zdroj-12v-60w-spinany-hs-60-12-carspa-z104207), for Confirmation of Conformity please use the link.
Body of device is made of laser-cut and welded parts. Device is covered by black acrylic glass. Lid of device is made of transparent acrylic glass, which serves two purposes: 1. Prevents sunbeams and other UV light from entering the device, which protects photoreactive resin from degradation 2. Prevents UV light leakage from inside of device. This case should however not occur in usual operation, because the light cannot go thru the tank filled with resin. This would occur only in case someone starts device and executes printing without inserted resin and with unfastened print platform. Device is controlled by electronics developed by us in combination with electronics arduino and raspberry, electronics are cooled by one ventilator. By projector heated air off-take is secured by second separate vent. Light beam is refracted by two mirrors. Stainless sheet covers inner space of device. Bottom part of device is covered by zinc-plated sheet with leakers for air in-take.

23.2 PRINT PREPARATION
It is important to have well-designed model, which we want to print, prior actual printing. This model has to be in .stl format, in accordance with description present on USB device and inserted into DWARF slot. The printer automatically loads the model from USB at start-up. If everything is set correctly, no further user’s action is needed. Printer automatically follows exposition mode and layer height, in accordance with parameter setup of your model on USB.
The keystone is model in STL format. Follow basic modelling rules for 3D printing. (http://www.futur3d.net/pravidla-3d-modelovani-a-tvorba-stl-souboru)
1. Model design preparation in Creation Workshop program. Program is open source
and is downloadable at here.
Stránka 25 z 39
23.3 MODEL LOADING AND INSERTION
Basic control elements in
Creation Workshop
software environment:
PRINT AREA
Insert model via icon ! in left upper corner. When dialogue opens, find desired STL file for printing and open it.
1 Scene
This window contains list of inserted files. It is possible to further duplicate or remove the models or clear entire area in this window. Comment: The duplicate, when created, appears in the same positions as original model, it is necessary to dislocate them before printing.
2 Object info
There is basic information about model in this window. Information about volume, position and basic dimensions of a model can be obtained.
3 Move
Contains tools for model position change on the work area. Models can be moved manually step-by-step in individual axis or following tools are available:
„Puts down“ the model on the work area.
Centers the model to the center.
Spreads out models so they do not overlap.
Stránka 26 z 39
Holding the
shift
key allows moving the model freely.
4 Mirror
Allows to inverse a model thru selected plane of mirroring.
5 Scale
Tool for dimensions size change.
6 Rotate
Allows model rotation around selected axis.
7 Support generation
Serves as a support for surfaces, which forms an acute angle (smaller than 30°) with the platform. It is also necessary to support models, which abuts against the platform with a flat surface.
It is not suitable to use automatic support generation. Manual setup is recommended. You can see an example recommended support setup in the picture below.
Manual placement / Automatic generation

8 Configure
Preset correct printing device in the section
Configure Machine
, and if necessary check
whether the set parameters are consistent with device parameters.
Set „1280“ for usage of printer with standard definition
Set „HD“ for usage of printer with HD resolution
Click on Apply Changes
Stránka 28 z 39
Section C
onfigure Slicing Profile
allows conditions setting for individual layers creation.
Check whether the setting contains desired parameter (especially layer thickness).
Complete „Export Options“ and check the fields as in the picture.
Do not forget to confirm „Apply Changes“ after every change of setting
11 Slice
When the models are in desired position, it is necessary to save the " CWS file first. .
Select required setting in the
Slice
section. After this action you can run Slice.
Stránka 29 z 39
Number of layers and individual slices can be reviewed in Slice View section.
Stránka 30 z 39
Slices are exported into the folder called NAME.slice in the form of PGN files. It is necessary to compress the files into single .zip file.
Create a folder with the name of printed object in the USB flash drive directory. Insert the created .zip file into this folder.
Stránka 31 z 39
Fill-in the folder name with content for printing and layer height consistent with preset slicer in the text file „config“ at USB. Set required exposition times according to the chart. This setting does not have to be consistent with slicing profile.

It is important to thoroughly clean the mirrors and tank bottom before printing. Surface soil may result in printing defects.
1. Properly shake the printing material before opening. Then pour sufficient amount into the tank.
2. Make sure the tank is properly fastened with eccentric levers. Platform lock-out screw has to be tightened too.

PRINTING FINALIZATION
1. Wipe off liquid material from the top of platform.
2. Extract the platform from the device and wipe off remaining material from the platform.
3. Carefully cut off printed models.
Stránka 34 z 39
4. Pour unused material back to bottle thru a sieve.
5. Clean everything thoroughly for next printing.
If the model parameters are set correctly, printing difficulties do not occur. Not always is exact data matrix for printing of desired model available, though.
The tank has limited durability, which is significantly influenced by cleaning and manipulation method. Properly used the tank should last for more than 100 printings. Major risk in tank manipulation is mechanical damage. Do not use sharp scrapers for residue and soil removal from the bottom of tank.
Use protection work instruments when interacting with photopolymer, especially advisable are gloves. Keep your workplace always clean. If you do not print, always remove photopolymer from the tank to avoid damage and degradation of optical qualities of bottom plate.

23.4 IMPORTANT WARNINGS
1. Printer must be placed on flat surface
2. Back side of the printer with vents has to be in the distance of at least of 30cm (for
proper cooling function) from the wall or other obstacle
3. When done printing, do not leave polymer in the tank
4. Always shake the polymer before printing
5. Mirrors must be kept clean and without dust
6. Do not eject tank before platform removal. Mirrors might be soiled
7. Never use sharp items on the bottom of tank. Separation layer might be damaged.
