CSH-5 MARK-2 Operator’ s guide
The purpose of this operator’s guide is to provide the basic operating procedures for this equipment. For detailed information, refer to the operator’ manual.
Basic operation
1 . Press the POWER switch on the main panel.
The lamp at the left of the switch lights.
2 . Press the TRANSDUCER “h“ key.
The lamp above the switch lights when the
transducer is fully lowered.
3 . Adjust the BRILLiance and CONTRAST
controls.
4 . Select a display range by RANGE switch
on the control box.
5 . Set a tilt angle by operating the TIL T lever .
6 . Adjust the GAIN control.
Eliminating unwanted feeble
echoes (Adjusting TVG)
If the color changes suddenly to weaker colors as the fish echo while it approaches, adjust the TVG NEAR and FAR.
1 . Press the MENU key .
2 . Rotate the RANGE switch to select TVG
NEAR or TVG FAR .
3 . Rotate the GAIN switch to set TVG near
or TVG far .
When sea surface reflections or plankton layers disturb the picture, adjust the NEAR control to eliminate them. They will be eliminated
by decreasing the control setting by 1 or 2.
Adjusting PULSELENGTH
1 . Press the MENU key .
2 . Rotate the RANGE switch to select
PULSELENGTH .
3 . Rotate the GAIN switch to reduce the
PULSELENGTH (1: minimum, 10: maximum).
Suppressing seabed and sea
surface reflection in shallow
fishing
1 . Press the MENU key.
2 . Rotate the RANGE switch to select TX
OUTPUT.
3 . Rotate the GAIN switch to reduce the TX
OUTPUT (1: minimum, 10: maximum).
Rejecting sonar interface and
noise
Adjusting TX CYCLE
(To eliminate interference rings)
1 . Press the MENU key.
2 . Rotate the RANGE switch to select TX
CYCLE.
3 . Rotate the GAIN switch to reduce the TX
CYCLE (1: minimum, 10: maximum).
Suppressing seabed tail
Adjusting the AGC control
1. Ratate AGC control clockwise little by
little.
Adjusting the NOISE LIM control
W eak, unwanted reflections, colored light blue
or green due to contaminated, plankton layers or ship’s noise can be eliminated by the
NOISE LIM control.

Adjusting the IR control
Random noise or sea surface reflections in
rough sea conditions can be rejected by the
IR control. However, do not use an unnecessary high setting since it may also reject small
wanted echoes.
Measuring range and bearing
to a target
1 . Rotate the TRACKBALL to locate the cur -
sor on the fish echoes.
The range and bearing are displayed at the
left top on the screen.
Detecting fish schools aurally
1 . Rotate the TRACKBALL to locate the cur -
sor to the direction you want to monitor
through the speaker.
2 . Press the R/B key.
The bearing marker will appear in the di-
rection of the trackball mark and echoes
in that direction are monitored through the
speaker.
3 . If you want to cover a certain area, press
the SECTOR SCAN key.
The bearing marker automatically scans in
2° step.
Finding fish school center
1 . Press the MENU key.
2 . Rotate the RANGE switch to select AUT O
TILT WIDTH.
3 . Rotate the GAIN switch to select a tilting
width.
4 . Press the TILT lever to set the center tilt
angle of the scanning.
5 . Read a tilt angle which fish echoes appear
at the strongest reflection.
Registering function key
(F1 or F2)
1 . Press the MENU key.
2 . Rotate the RANGE switch to select FUNC
KEY PROG line.
3 . Rotate the GAIN switch to select FUNC1
or FUNC2.
4 . Press the TX key.
Recalling the registered
function
1 . Press the F1 or F2.
The registered function is recalled.
2 . To cancel it, press the F1 or F2 again.
Relocating fish school for
easy observation
1 . Rotate the TRACKBALL to locate the cur -
sor to the position where the own ship
mark is to be moved .
2 . Press the OFF CENTER key.
3 . To move the own ship mark back to the
center of the screen, press the OFF CEN-
TER key again.

Changing menu setting
1 . Press the MENU key.
2 . Rotate the RANGE switch to select item
you want to change.
3 . Rotate the GAIN switch to set the con-
tents.
