Introduction to wireless communication
With your notebook with an i ntegrated BLUETOOTH™ module you can communicate wireles sly with other BLUETOOTH devices , e.g. with another notebook . Thi s notebook with integrated BLUETOOTH is a Power Class 1 device, i.e. i t has a maximum range of 100 m eters. The range of the communicati on paths is shortened depending on t he user environment (e.g. wall s or furniture), building structure and output power class of the partner.
BLUETOOTH supports many functions (Services), e.g. wi rel ess printing of documents, access i ng the Internet and transmitting or receiving data, e-mails and faxes.
However, please note that not every BLUETOOTH devic e can make use of all Services.

This operating manual desc ri bes how to put BLUETOOTH into operati on and i nstall the related Plugfree software. Read through this manual carefully before you us e B LUETOOTH for the first ti me. Familiarise yourself with the proper use of the technology. What must be observed when setting up the notebook and when operat i ng notebooks with a radio connection is c ontained in the chapter "Im port ant notes". You will find additional information in the manuals for your notebook, your operating system and the Plugfree online help.

Safety
Most of the saf ety information is contained in the Getting S t arted manual; some of the m ost
important informat i on i s outlined below.
This notebook complies with the relevant safety regulations for data processing equipment. If you
have any questions, contact your s al es outlet or our Hotline/Helpdesk. If the notebook is brought into the user locat i on f rom a cold environment, condensation may form.
Before operating the notebook , wait until it is absolutely dry and has reac hed approximately the same temperature as t he user location.
Switch off t he radi o components (BLUETOOTH or wireless LAN) on the notebook when y ou are i n a hospital, an operating room or near a m edi cal electronics system. The transmitted radio waves can impair the operation of the medical devices.
Keep the notebook at leas t 20 cm from a pacemaker, as otherwise the proper operati on of the pacemaker may be impai red by radio waves.
The transmitted radio waves can cause an unpleasant humming in hearing aids. Switch off t he not ebook when you are in an aircraft or driving in a car. Do not let the notebook near f l am m abl e gases or into hazardous env i ronm ents (e.g. paintshops )
with radio components switched on, as the t ransmitted radio waves can cause an explosion or a f i re. The company Fujitsu Siemens Computers GmbH c annot be held responsible for radio or tel evision
faults arising from unauthorised changes made to this device. Fuj i tsu Siemens is, furthermore, not responsible for replaci ng and / or exchanging connector cables and devices whi ch have not been specified by Fuji tsu Siemens Computers GmbH. Selecting a location
Please observe the following point s when installing the notebook t o ens ure optimum performance of the device:
· We recommend that you us e the notebook with the BLUETOOTH m odul e i n a typical operating
environment. Other BLUE TOOTH devices, which you want to communicat e wi th, should be located at a distance of approx. 30 m.
· Only install a part ner device within the recom m ended di stance. Observe t he output power class
of the partner device when doi ng so. Details are contai ned i n the operating manual of the partner device.
· Use the notebook with t he BLUETOOTH at least 2 m away from other electrical or el ectronic
systems. If you must use the notebook near a microwave cooker, then m ai ntain a distance of at least 3 m from the microwave cooker, as the reception is s ubj ect to interference wi th regard to microwaves.
· Should problems result when communicating via BLUETOOTH because radios or radio
devices are locat ed i n the vicinity, then move the notebook t o a di fferent location.

Installing BLUETOOTH device drivers
To use BLUETOOTH you must f i rst install the drivers.
Ê Make sure that the BLUETOOTH module on the notebook i s switched off. Ê Switch on the notebook and wait until Windows is booted. Ê Log on as an administrator after Windows is boot ed.

The indicator (b) lights up green when the module is switc hed on. Driver installat i on i s started automati cally.

Ê Click on Continue Anyway to install the drivers for BLUETOOTH.

may differ depending on the operat ing system.
When the BLUETOOTH module is s wi tched on for the first t i me, the drivers are automatically i nstalled. Should no window be displayed for this purpos e the first time the module is switc hed on, check whether the drivers are already install ed. If you find a "Bluetooth USB Dongl e (network)" under Start – Control Panel– System – Hardware – Device Manager, the drivers are already i nstalled.
Plugfree software for BLUETOOTH
Plugfree is a powerful software solut i on for notebooks with BLUE TOOTH technology. With Plugfree you can establis h a wi rel ess connection between the notebook and other devices activated by BLUETOOTH.
With Plugfree you can:
· Install virtual serial devices and use them in applicat i ons such as Netmeeti ng or Hyperterm.
· Access t he I nternet with modems or mobil e telephones activat ed via BLUETOOTH.
· Send or receive faxes.
· Reliably connect your notebook to a LAN.
· Send documents to a pri nt er and
· generally access all devices equipped wit h B LUETOOTH.
Plugfree is easy to install and configure. It was developed to configure your net work as simply and quickly as pos sible.

Installing the Plugfree software
Ê Run Windows. Ê Log on as an administrator. Ê To start the installation program, click on Start - Add on software - Install Plugfree Software.
The installation program of the Plugfree software is started.
Ê Follow the instructions on the sc reen.
When the installation is complet ed, your notebook will be rebooted.
Now you will find an icon for the program link on your desktop.

Starting BLUETOOTH and Plugfree software
Ê Switch the BLUETOOTH module on with the ON/OFF switch. Ê Select Start – All programs - Plugfree – Start Plugfree.
The software is st arted and an icon is display ed i n the taskbar. The following window is displayed:
When you have started Plugfree, your notebook is shown as a pyrami d. In the "body" of the pyramid you see the Bluetoot h address and the name of your notebook.
A detailed descript i on of Plugfree is contained in the online help f or t he program.

Search for other BLUETOOTH devices
Ê To learn which BLUETOOTH devices can be reached, click on the tip of the pyramid.
Plugfree searches for the BLUETOOTH devi ces and shows these as cubes with different colours and icons.

Establishing connection
Ê Mark the device to which you want t o establish a connect i on. Ê Drag it onto one of the dark squares located around t he pyramid with the left m ouse button
pressed.
When a connection has been established, it will be indicated by a line between the devices.

The Services possible with the connected device are shown in a selection window.
Disconnecting connection
Ê Click on the radio icon in the menu bar.
All devices still c onnec ted are disconnected.
Ending Plugfree
Ê Click on the X icon in the menu bar.
The programme will be ended. All devices still c onnec ted are disconnected.

Troubleshooting
The BLUETOOTH module was not found or the drivers could not be loaded
Make sure that the Bluetooth s et ting is activat ed i n the BIOS.
Ê Start the BIOS Setup. Ê Set the Bluetooth setting to Enable in the Advanced – Internal Device Configuration menu.
Remote device cannot be found during the device search
Ê If the desired device cannot be found, change the settings and s tart the search again.
