Energy Star Guidelines
The Fujitsu Siemens LCD colour monitor 463V FA is designed to conserve
electricity by dropping to less t han 3 W when i t goes into standby,
suspend and OFF mode. With thi s new power management the 463V FA
qualifies for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Energy
Star Computers award.
The EPA estimates that comput er equipment uses 5 percent of all business electricity and that this
is growing rapidly. I f all desktop com put ers and peripherals enter a low-power mode when not i n
use, the overall savings in electricity could amount t o $ 2 t housand million annually. These savings
could also prevent the emiss i on of 20 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere - the
equivalent of 5 million automobiles.
As an Energy Star P artner, Fujitsu Siem ens Computers GmbH has determi ned that this product
meets the Energy S tar guidelines for energy efficiency.

Notes on ergonomic colour adjustment
If you select colours for the dis pl ay in your application program m es, take note of the i nformation
below.
The primary colours blue and red on a dark background do not produce the mi ni m um requi red
contrast of 3:1 and are therefore not suitable for continuous text and data entry.
When using several col ours for characters and bac kground and giving the primary colours full
modulation, you can obtain very suitabl e colour combinations (see the following table):
BackgroundCharacters
blackwhitepurplebluecyangreenyellowred
black++-+++white+++---+
purple++-----
blue-+-+-+-
cyan+--+---
green+--+---
yellow+-++--+
red - +----+
+Colour combination very suitable
-Col our combination not suit abl e because colour locati ons are too close together, thin
characters are not identifiable or rigorous foc using is demanded of the human ey e.

Removing the monitor base
Before you can use a s wi vel arm or a wall bracket, you must remove the m oni tor base:
!
Ê Switch of f the monitor and pull the power plug out of the power socket .
Ê Lay the monit or on i ts face on a soft surface.
Ê Remove the cover and disconnect all cables.
Ê Remove the four screws on the rear of the moni tor.
You can now mount a swivel arm or a wall bracket as per VESA FPMPMI with 100 mm hole
spacing.
The monitor surface is susceptible t o scratching!
For instructions on how to mount the swivel arm or wal l bracket, please see the documentation for
the swivel arm or wall bracket.

VESA-DDC-compatible VGA interface
Your monitor is equipped with a VESA-DDC-compatible V GA interface. VESA-DDC (Video
Electronics S tandard Associati on, Display Data Channel) is used as the communi cations interfac e
between the monitor and the computer. If your computer is equipped with a VESA-DDC-compatible
VGA interface, i t can automaticall y read the data for ensuring opti m um operation from your monitor
and select the appropriat e settings.

For ergonomic reasons, a s creen resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels is recommended. Because of the
technology used (ac t i ve matrix) an LCD monitor provides a totally flicker-free picture even with a
refresh rate of 60 Hz.
Should an error occur, firs t check the following points . If the distortion is s till not eliminated, the
monitor should, if possible, be check ed on another computer and/or with anot her data cable.

Permanently unlit or l it pixelsThe standard of production techniques t oday
cannot guarantee an absolutely fault-free screen
display. A f ew i solated constant l i t or unlit pixels
may be present. The max i m um perm i tted
number of pixels faul ts is stipulated in the
stringent internati onal standard ISO 13406-2
(Class II).
Example: a 17" or 18" f l at-screen monitor with a
resolution of 1280 x 1024 has 1280 x 1024 =
1310720 pixels. Eac h pi xel consists of three
subpixels (red, green and blue), so there are
almost 4 million dots in total.
According to IS O 13406-2 (Cl ass II), a maxi m um
of 6 pixels and 7 subpixels may be defect i ve, i.
e. a total of 25 fault ed dots. This corresponds to
approx. 0.0006 % of the entire screen surface!
