Fujitsu OEM BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.5 for
Linux offers world-class data protection for distributed
servers, databases and applications as well as clients
for multiple environments, including Linux, Windows,
NetWare and UNIX. With its wide range of powerful,
easy-to-use data protection tools, BrightStor ARCserve
Backup can help ensure the integrity and availability of
your most important asset - data.
Access to information is key to success
In an increasingly competitive business environment, the
availability of information is often the differentiator between
success and failure. The proliferation of the Internet and
the movement toward on-demand computing has only
heightened the need to effectively leverage information
assets to increase revenue and profit opportunities. And at
the heart of an organization’s information assets are its
data resources.
With all the potential disasters in today’s world - fire, flood,
theft, hardware failure, human error, virus infection and so
on - every organization needs to protect its critical data to
help ensure its continued availability.
As businesses grow, so do storage requirements, and data
protection environments can become extremely complex.
As a result, businesses demand exceptional flexibility from
software tools. To meet the rising need to manage data
growth and around-the-clock availability, many
organizations are considering deploying the latest storage
technology, including storage area networks (SANs) and
network-attached storage (NAS).
The ideal data protection solution must address the
business demands for high performance and availability,
scale with the environment and leverage new storage
paradigms such as NAS and SANs. It must also provide
flexible and consistent management across all the
platforms the organization chooses to deploy.

Multiplexing Capabilities
Multiplexing reduces the “backup window” by enabling
multiple jobs to write to the same media simultaneously.
This allows to back up data without impacting the server or
application and to make efficient use of tape
libraries and media. You can create and send up to 32
backup jobs simultaneously.
Oracle 10g and Multistreaming Support
BrightStor ARCserve Backup provides full protection of the
new Oracle database and leverages the new Automatic
Storage Management (ASM) feature. It also supports
multistreaming jobs, allowing the use of multiple media
simultaneously while backing up or restoring Oracle
databases.
Dynamic Enumeration
File systems and database tablespaces can be
enumerated every time a scheduled backup job starts,
providing full protection for the server and its applications.
Multiple Storage Network and Media
Support
BrightStor ARCserve Backup is optimized for all storage
environments, including traditional direct-attached storage,
SANs and NDMP NAS devices.
Cross-Platform SAN Support
With BrightStor ARCserve Backup, multiple
platforms (such as Linux, UNIX and Windows) can share
tape libraries and other storage devices on a SAN without
the need to logically partition or zone the devices. This
reduces costs and increases manageability by allowing
multiple computing environments to share storage
resources on a SAN.
TAR and CPIO Support
BrightStor ARCserve Backup supports Quick File Access
(QFA) so that files created in TAR and CPIO formats can
be restored.
Integrated Backup to Disk
Backing up to disk allows the leverage of the highperformance and random access characteristics of disk
technology as an intermediate step between the primary
disk and tape device.
NDMP Support
You can back up to tape drives and libraries attached
directly to NAS devices. Three-way NDMP support
is also included.
Multiple NIC Support
Multiple NIC cards can be installed to create a separate
storage network without the costs associated with
deploying a SAN. This can help to avoid data bottlenecks,
reduce usage of networks running the business and
improve backup performance.
Small Library Support BrightStor
ARCserve Backup supports the use of a tape library with
one drive and unlimited slots without the need for
BrightStor®ARCserve® Backup Tape Library Option.
Off-Site Vaulting Integration
BrightStor ARCserve Backup is designed to play a key
role in a overall disaster recovery plan. It provides
advanced media management for Linux servers and
integrates smoothly with off-site vaulting provider (such as
Iron Mountain and others).
Ease-of-Deployment and-Administration
A web-based management interface allows remote,
centralized management of storage server expenses,
reduced operating errors and simplified administration.
Multiple Language Support
English, French, Italian, German and Spanish
versions of BrightStor ARCserve Backup are included on
the same CD, allowing global and multinational use.
Command Line Interface
You can run common backup and restore functions
directly from the command line, which allows you to include
these functions in batch files and invoke them from other
automation solutions, such as Unicenter®.
Access Control List (ACL) Support
ACLs that the administrator has set up can be backed up.
This provides more control over file and directory access
than the standard file system provides.
BrightStor® Portal Integration
Built-in BrightStor Portal technology allows to
centrally monitor and report on all your BrightStor
ARCserve Backup servers from one centralized console.
Extensive Reporting Capabilities
BrightStor ARCserve Backup includes predefined report
formats, including Real-Time Statistics, Recovery Report,
Media Usage, Shipping Content Report, Receiving Content
Report and others.
Improved Virus Protection
BrightStor ARCserve Backup provides complete
virus protection through integrated eTrust™ Antivirus
technology that scans the files and detects and cures
viruses as the files are backed up.
Enhanced Data Security
Advanced 3DES 128-bit data encryption helps ensure the
privacy and security of data transmitted between the
network and backup media. Tapes cannot be misused or
restored by users without the encryption key.

What’s new in r11.5
Disk Staging Backup (D2D2t)
D2D2T shrinks backup time by allowing backup data to be
staged to fast disk drives before it is automatically moved to
tape. For a restore ARCserve tries firstly to restore the data
from the fast disk system. If the data is already migrated the
restore will be done from the tape device.
The whole operation is policy driven, reducing cost and
management overhead.
64-bit Platform Support
The r11.5 release will allow you to leverage the performance
and scalability benefits of 64-bit hardware platform in backup
servers as well as protect applications running in 64-bit
operating systems.
Linux Agents for SAP and Lotus Domino
ARCserve r11.5 includes new backup agents for SAP and
Lotus Domino on Linux and users can migrate these
applications to Linux with the assurance that they are
protected by a industry leading backup solution.
