May I introduce myself?
My name is Pocket LOOX 610. I am part of the Pocket PC fam i l y, also called handhelds. I'm sure you'v e al ready noticed that I' m flat, handy and light-weight. Now I'd like to draw your
attention to my extens ive, diverse capabilities. I am equipped with the Off i ce applications MS-Word, Excel and Outlook - naturally al l i n the Pocket
version. In Outlook you can not onl y receive and send e-mails, you can also manage y our appointments and let m e rem i nd your of the things you hav e to do. Of course, y ou can also enter your address list i n me so that you can access names (e-mail) addresses and telephone numbers when you're on the go. You can ent er notes in me in writing or v erbal l y as with a dictaphone. Memory cards, whi ch you can buy in various sizes, ensure that I can also reliabl y hold and retain large amounts of data.
In the office y ou can then effortlessly transfer all y our data and newly created document s to your notebook or PC. To do this, just insert me i n m y cradle, install ActiveSync on y our PC and you're ready to synchronise your data. In additi on, a short stay in the cradle also gives me new power, as my battery will be charged while I'm t here. If you don't have your cradle at hand, for example in a hotel room, it doesn' t matter. You can s ynchronise your data usi ng the ActiveSy nc cable via the infrared interface or wit h BLUETOOTH, and you can charge my battery with the power adapt er.
And since life i sn't all work and no play, I offer you additional f unctions as well. Y ou can read your favourite book quit e comfortably on my di splay or use me as an MP 3 pl ayer. Insert the mem ory card of your digital cam era i n the suitable card slot and you can view the photos you just took on m y display.
Have you already notic ed that I provide you wit h t wo slots? You can use di f ferent cards at the s am e time. And how about the combination memory card and GSM/GPRS CompactF l ash card? Or you can combine two memory cards for maxim um memory capacity .
With BLUETOOTH, the inf rared i nterface and the integrated Wirel ess LAN (depending on the model), you can also connect to other devices in your offic e and on the go without bothersome cables. For example, thanks to BLUETOOTH you can take me into the Internet without cables with your BLUETOOTH-capable cell phone. Naturally, I als o have the Pocket Internet Explorer ready for you. With it y ou can visit both webs i t es and WAP sites.
Incidentally, if you install a GS M /GPRS CompactFlas h card in me I am completel y autonomous when it comes to I nternet and data connections : send your emails, carry out research in the net or synchronise y our data (e.g. via XTND Connect), regardless of where you are at the moment.
For long hours far from a power connec tion and cradle, I can warml y recommend the Main Bat t ery XL (also available as an accessory). I n conjunction with the M a i n B attery XL, I can offer you up to 24 hours of battery runti m e, depending on your preferred applicati ons.

Wireless data transfer with infrared interface
The infrared interface (IrDA) on the left side of your Pocket PC provi des you with wireless serial data transfer of up to 4 Mbits/s. In general, Fast Infrared is the interface of choice f or the fastest possible data transfer rate of 4 M bi ts/s. However, should you notice diff iculties when exc hangi ng data with slower devices, pl ease switch to the S low Infrared setting (115 k bi ts).
For data transfer, you m ust align the infrared int erf ace of your Pocket P C wi th that of the partner device (e.g. PC). The devices must not be m ore t han one metre apart. The infrared interf ace of one device must be in the range of influence (horizontally approx. 30 ° and vertically approx. 15 ° ) of the infrared interface of the other device.
Run the program Infrared Receive under Programs on your Pocket PC. The Pocket PC immediately begins to search for the partner device (infrared t rans mitter) and informs you on any infrared interface found.
If the infrared partner dev i ce has not been found, point t he device in another directi on and then run the program Infrared Receive again.
Wireless communication with BLUETOOTH (optional)
With your Pocket PC with an integrated BLUETOOTH™ modul e you can communicat e wi rel essly with other BLUETOOTH devices, e.g. with anot her P ocket PC, a notebook or a m obi l e phone.
Your Pocket PC with integrated BLUETOOTH is a Power Class 2 device, i .e. it has a maxim um range of 10 meters. The range of t he communication paths i s shortened depending on the user environment (e.g. wall s or furniture), building s t ructure and output power class of the partner.
BLUETOOTH supports many functions (Services), e.g. accessing the Int ernet and transmitting or receiving data or e-mail s.
In the following sections, you will find out how to put BLUETOOTH int o operation. The help file for the sof tware on your Pocket LOOX 610 ex pl ai ns how you operate the software
