devices ring when your number is called. Too
many devices on one line may result in failure

most, but not all, areas the sum of the RENs

may connect to your line, as determined by the
RENs, contact your local telephone company.

Sleep Mode

:
You will notice that your computer is initially set
so that the display turns off after 15 minutes
of user inactivity, and the computer goes into
Sleep mode after 20 minutes of user inactivity.
When going into Sleep mode, the computer
also reduces the speed of any active Ethernet
network links. To “wake” the computer from
Sleep mode, pres s the Suspend/ Resume
Button.

M o d e m s co nn e c t e d t o th e Au s t r a l i a n
telecommunications network must be operated
in accordance with the Labelling Notice. This
modem has benn specifically configured to
ensure compliance with the ACMA standards.
Do not adjust your modem or software outside
the values indicated below. To do so would
result in your modem being operated in a non­compliant manner.

The unit shall be connected to Telecommunications
Network through a line cord, which meets the
requirements of ACMA AS/ ACIF S008:2006.

The equipment shall be powered through an
Australian Approved mains cord set. When the
Secondary Landscape Orientation of the Tablet
PC is held close to the body, the antenna must
be in closed condition to avoid physical damage
to the Antenna.

Call Attempts / Retries:

Applications software shall be configured so
that no more than 3 attempts are made to
establish a connection to a given number(Note:
if the modern can detect serice tones, up to 10
attempts can be made). If the call sequence is
unsuccessful, there shall be a delay of at least
30 minutes before attempting to call the number
again.

Failure to set the modem and any application
so f tw a re use d wi t h th e mo de m , t o t h e
values shown above will result in the modem
being operated in a non-compliant manner.
Consequently, this would be in violation of the
Labelling Notice for 1997 prescribes penalties
for the connection of non-complaint equipment.

NEW ZEALAND WARNINGS

The grant of a Teleper mit for any ite m of
terminal equipment indicates only that Telecom
ha s ac cepted that the otem complies with
minimu m conditions fo r connection to its
network. It indicates no endorsement of the
product by Telecom, nor does it provide any sort
of warranty. Above all, it provided no assurance
that any item will work correctly in all respects
with another item of Telepermitted equipment of
a different make or model, nor does it imply that
any product is compatible with all of Telecom’s
network services.

This e q u i p m ent is not cap a b l e under all
operating conditions of correct operation at
the higher speeds for which it is designed. 56
KBPS connections are likely to be restricted
to lower bit rates when connected to some
PSTN implementations. Telecom will accept no
responsibility should difficulties arise in such
circumstances.

This indicator displays operating status

This button allows you to power on or off the
notebook. You can use also this button to
suspend notebook activity without turning off
the power to it and to resume the notebook
from suspend mode.

• The LCD screen of your notebook,

composes of more than 2,350,000
picture elements (number of dots when
the screen resolution is set at 1366 by
768 pixels). It was manufactured using
advanced technologies. For technical
reasons, LCD screen may have pixels
that do not light and pixels that are
always lit.

• LCD panels may display slight varying

colors and uneven density.

SD Card Slot

The Secure Digital (SD)/SDHC card slot
allows you toinstall a ash memory card for
data storage. This architecture allows you to
transfer data from a variety of different digital
devices, such as SD card.

USB 3.1 (GEN 1) Connector

The USB 3.1 (GEN 1) connector allows you
to connect Universal Serial Bus devices
and is backward compatible with USB 2.0
devices.

LAN Connector

This connector allows you to connect to a
LAN (local area network) using an optional
LAN cable.

Kensington Lock

The notebook is supplied with a pen cord
which you can attach to the eyelets on the
pen and on Kensington Lock of the notebook.

You can use it connect to a TV with HDMI­Out port for high quality video output.
The HDMI-Out port supports both video and
audio output.

USB 3.1 Type-C

Connector

The USB 3.1 Type-CTM connector is for a
small 24-pin reversible-plug connector for
USB devices and USB cabling. This has the
maximum output of 5Gbps and power output
of 5V/3A.

USB 3.1 (GEN 1) Connector

The USB 3.1 (GEN 1) connector allows you
to connect Universal Serial Bus devices
and is backward compatible with USB 2.0
devices.

Bottom Features of LIFEBOOK

Air Vents

The air vents are used to cool the system to
prevent overheating.

OFF Button

If operating system stop responses and
pressing Power button for 10 seconds does
not make any responses as well, this OFF
button will cut off the battery for hard reset.
You may power on by pressing the Power
button.

Power Indicator ( )

This indicator turns on when there is power to
the notebook. It turns off when the notebook
is powered off. This indicator will blink if the
notebook is put in suspend mode.

Battery Charging Indicator( )

This indicator turns on when internal battery
is being charged.

Battery Level Indicator ( )

The Battery Level Indicator states the

Hard Disk Access Indicator ( )

This indicator turns on when an internal ard
disk drive device or a removable disk drive is

being accessed.

Wireless LAN / Bluetooth* Indicator ( )

This indicator turns on when the wireless LAN
of the notebook is being activated by, user.
* For model with Bluetooth

Function Lock Indicator ( )

This indicator turns on when the function key
are locked. (You can press [ ]+[F1-F12]
to activate the multimedia controls.)
Press [ ]+[ ], and it locks it for that
session. When the computer reboots, this is
reset back to the defaul t.

Num Lock Indicator ( )

The keyboard is locked in Num Lock mode.
(You can use the keyboard as a ten-digit
keyboard when the Num Lock mode is
turned on). Toggle the Num Lock mode by
using the [ ] key.

Caps Lock Indicator ( )

Toggle the Caps Lock mode by using the
[ ] key.

Scroll Lock Indicator ( )

This indicator turns on when the lock mode
is turned on. You can toggle the Scroll Lock
button by using the [ ] key while
holding down the[ ] key.

Recharging the battery

Connect the AC adapter to your notebook

The moment you connect an AC adapter
to your notebook, the notebook begins to
charge the internal standard battery pack.

When the battery level indicator turns off
after the battery is completely charged,
(while the notebook is in off mode)
dis c onnect th e AC adapter from th e
notebook.

purchase, remember to charge it fully.
If a char ged ba ttery has no t been
recharged for more than a month,
charge it fully before using it.

When the battery is fully charged while
the notebook is in power off mode, the
Battery Charging Indicator turns off.

When th e battery is 90% or more
charged, it cannot be recharged even if
the AC adapter is connected. The battery
can be recharged when its power level(i.e.
remaining battery life) is 89% or less. This
is a mechanism to protect and extend the
battery life.

When a notebook is turned off, the Battery
Level LED indicator goes off immediately

if the battery is completely charged.

The chargeability of the battery degrades
when it is used in an extremely hot or cold
place.

When th e bat t e r y is ve r y ho t , fo r
example, immediately after long usage
of the notebook, the battery protection
feature may be activated to prevent the
battery from being recharged. When the
temperature decreases, the notebook
automatically begins to charge the battery.

When an optional modular bay battery
is installed, it is charged along with
the internal standard battery. (Optional
modular bay battery is applicable to
selected models only.)

a long period of time. If the battery runs
down very fast, replace it with a new
battery.

When the power is turned off, the
status display LEDs are all OFF except
for during battery charging.

NOTE 1:

Battery temperature alarm is to stop charging
w i t h ba t t e r y pr o t e c t i o n f u n c t i o n wh e n
emperature of built-in battery pack or extended
built-in battery unit becomes too high or too
low due to battery heat or cooling down of the
battery.

The use of a weak battery may result
in lost of data you are currently working
on. When the battery runs low, connect
the AC adapter to your notebook as
soon as an external power source is
available or immediately save the data
you are working on, exit all applications
and turn off the notebook.

Accessi n g da t a on th e ha r d di s k
consumes a lot of power. Therefore
when the battery is weak, connect an
AC adapter to the notebook before
accessing data on the hard disk.

If a battery is weak and there is no
sy stem activity, th e no tebook may
go into standby(i.e. suspend) mode.
However, if there is system activity, the
notebook will go into standby mode
onl y after th e syste m activit y has
completed its processing.

Th e notebook will g o into standby
mode when the indicato r reaches
3%. This is the default setting if the
notebook.

POWER MANAGEMENT

Your Fujitsu LIFEBOOK has many options and
features for conserving battery power. Some
of these features are automatic and need no
user intervention, such as those for the internal
modem. Ho w e v e r, others d e p e n d on the
parameters you set to best suit your operating
cond i tions, su c h as those for the displa y
brightness. Internal power managements for
your notebook mat be controlled from settings
made in your operating system, pre-bundled
power management application, or from settings
made in BIOS setup utility.

Besides the options available for conserving
battery power, there are also some things that
you can do to prevent your battery from running
down as quickly. For example you can create
as appropriate power saving profile, put your
notebook into Suspend mode when it is not
performing as operation, and you can limit the
use of high power devices. As with all mobile,
battery power computers, there is a trade-off
between performance and power savings.

Power/Suspend/Resume Button

When you LIFEBOOK is active, the Power/
Suspend/Resume bu t t o n can b e u s e d to
ma nually ou t your notebo ok into S uspend
mode. Push the Power/Suspend/Resume button
when your notebook is active, but not actively
accessing anything , and immediately release
the button. You will hear two short beeps* and
your system will enter Suspend mode.

If your LIFEBOOK is suspended, pushing the
Power/Suspend/Resume button returns your
no tebook to active operation. You can tell
whether the system is Suspended by looking at
the Power indicator. If the indicator is visible and

not ashing, your notebook is fully operational.
If the indicator is visible and  ashing, your

notebook is in Suspend mode. If the indicator is
not visible, the power is off or your notebook is
in Hibernation mode.

Suspend Mode

Suspend or Standby mode in WIndows saves
the conte n t s of your notebook's system
memo r y duri n g peri o d s of in a c tivit y by
maintaining power to critical parts. This mode
will turn off the CPU, the display, the hard
drive, and all of the other internal components
except those necessary to maintain system
me m o ry an d a l low fo r r e sta r t ing . You r
notebook can be put in Suspend mode by:

• Pressing the Power/Suspend/Resume

button when your system is turned on.

• Selecting Standby from the Windows Shut

Down menu.

• Timing out from lack of activity.

• Allowing the battery to reach the Dead

Battery warning condition.

Your notebook's system memory typically
stores the file on which you are working you
are working, open application information, and
any other data required to support operation
from Suspend mode, your notebook will return
to the point where it left off. You must see the
Power.Suspend/Resume button to resume
operation, and there must be as adequate
power source available, or your notebook will
not resume.

Hibernation (Save-To-Disk) Feature

The Hibernation feature saves the contents of
your LIFEBOOK notebook’s system memory
to the hard drive as a part of the Suspend/
Resume mode. You can enable or disable this
feature.

Enable or Disable the Hibernation Feature

Windows 10:

battery continues to discharge while

operational.

Disabling the Power/Suspend/Resume
button prevents it from being used to
put your LIFEBOOK in Suspend or
Hibernation(Save-to DIsk) mode. The
resume function of the button cannot
be disabled.

The suspend or hibernation(Save-to

-Disk) mode should not be used with
certain PC cards. Check your PC Card
documentation for more information.
When PC Cards or external devices
are in use, Hibernation(Save-to-Disk)
mode cannot return to the exact state
prior to suspension, because all of the
peripheral devices will be re-initialized
when the system restarts.

If your LIFEBOOK is actively accessing
in fo r ma t io n w he n y ou en t er th e
Suspend or Hibernate (Save-to Disk)
mode, changes to open files are not

lost. The les are left open and memory

is kept active during Suspend mode
or the memory is transferred to the
internal hard drive during hibernation
mode.

The main advan t a g e of using the
Hibernation(Save-to-Disk) function is
that power is not required to maintain
your data. This is particularly important
if you wil be leaving your LIFEBOOK
in a suspended state for a prolonged
period of time. The drawback of using
Hibernation mode is the it lengthens the
power down and power up sequences
and resets peripheral devices.

Windows Power Management

The Power Options icon located in the Windows

Control Panel allows you to congure some of

the power managment settings. For example,
you can use the Power Options to set the
time o u t values fo r turning off the disp l a y
and hard disks whether you are running the
noteb o o k on battery power or on e of the
adapters.

Restarting The System

If your system is on and you need to restart it,
be sure that you use the following procedure.

Windows 10

1. Click the Windows icon

2. Click the Power, and select Restarting
from the list.

Turning off your notebook without exiting
Windows or turning on your notebook
within 10 seconds of the notebook being
shut off may cause an error when you
start the next time.

Power Off

Before turning off power, check that the hard
drive/optical drive access indicator is off. If
you turn off the power while accessing a disk
there is a risk of data loss. To ensure that your
notebook shuts down without error, use the
Windows shut down procedure.

Power/Suspend/Resume button

You can use th e Powe r/Suspend/R esume
button to turn on your notebook. Once you have
connected an AC adapter to the notebook or
charged the internal Lithium ion battery, you
can power on your notebook.

Whe n you tu rn on y o ur note book,
be sure you have a power source
connected to it. This means that at
least one battery is installe d and
charged or that the AC adapter
is connected and has power.

You can press the Power/Suspend/Resume
button to turn off the notebook. After you have
finished working on the notebook, you can
either leave it in Standby (i.e. suspend) mode
or turn it off.

Do not carry the notebook around when
it is still powered on. Do not subject the
notebook to shocks and vibrations. Failure
to do so may damage the notebook.

When you power on your notebook, it will
perform a Power On Self Test (POST) to check

the internal parts and conguration for normal

functionality. If an error is found, your notebook
will emit an audio warning and/or show an error
message.

After satisfactory completion of the Power On
Self Test (POST), your notebook will load your
operating system.

Power off

Before turning off the power, check that the
Hard Dri ve, Op tical Disk access and PC
Card indicators are all Off. If you power off
the notebook when it is acessing the disk or
PC Card, data may be lost or corrupted.To
power off the notebook, always shut down
the notebook properly using the Windows
shutdown procedure.

Remem b e r to close all fil e s , exit all
applications and shut down the operating
system prior to turning off the power using
the power button. If documents are opened
when the notebook is turned off, data may
be lost and this may result in disk errors.

Remember to use the correct procedure to
shut down the notebook. The proper procedure
is:

Select a suitable location for the Port

Switching on LIFEBOOK via the
Port Replicator

Press the ON/ OFF button on the port replicator
to switch the notebook on.

You can configure the function of the
ON/ OFF switch under Windows. The
setting apply both to ON/ OFF switch
of the notebook and to the ON/ OFF
switch of the Port Replicator.

Switching off LIFEBOOK via the
Port Replicator

Close all applications and shut down your
operating system (please refer to the manual
for the operating system).

If the notebook cannot be shut down
properly press the ON/OFF switch on
the notebook for about four seconds.
The notebook will switch itself off. Any
data not saved may be lost.

Disconnecting LIFEBOOK from the
Port Replicator

Disconnect the supplied USB cable
(USB Type-C™) from the USB 3.1 Type-C™
Connector on the notebook.

Troubleshooting

Your Fujitsu LIFEBOOK is sturdy and subject

to few problems in the eld. However, you may

encounter simple setup or operating problems
that you can solve on the spot, or problems
with peripheral devices, that you can solve by
replacing the device. The information in this
section helps you isolate and resolve some of
these straightforward problems and identify
failures that require service.

Identifying the Problem

If you encounter a pr o b l e m that you a r e
havin g difficulty in solving, go through the
following procedure before pursuing further
troubleshooting.

1. Turn off your notebook.

2. Make sure the AC adapter is plugged into
your notebook and to an active AC power
source.

3. Make sure that any card installed in the PC Card
slot is seated properly. You can also remove
the card from that slot, thus eliminating it as a
possible cause of failure.

4. Make sure that any devices connected to the
external connectors are plugged in properly.
You can also disconnect such devices, thus
eli minati ng them as pos sible causes of
failure.

5. Turn on your notebook. Make sure it has
been off at least 10 seconds before you turn
it on.

6. Go through the boot sequence.

If you keep notes about what you have
tried, your support representative may
be able to help you more quickly by
giving additional suggestions over the
phone.

Do not ret urn a failed notebook to
your supplier until you have talked to a
support representative.

Before you place the call, you should have
the following information ready so that the
customer support representative can provide
you with the fastest possible solution:

• Product name

• Product conguration number

• Product serial number

• Purchase date

• Conditions under which the problem occurred

• Any error messages that have occurred

• Hardware conguration

•Type of device connected, if any
